I've just recently subscribed to your channel. I'm envious. Love what you are doing and love when you pick your koi fish with the whole family... All the best.
Just popes in South west Koi this afternoon, cracking fish in here , sussing out my birthday treat for September , stunning quality and the team are so helpful, the absolute 🔨
Really enjoyed this video James. I agree with your kuhaku pick...........the swirling pattern down its back looks especially good from above. That showa too is just too good. I could not have come away without that fish. Some really beautiful specimens ❤
Hi James, the pattern you like is called Inazuma which means lightning because the pattern resembles a lightning strike. There were also a couple of kohaku that had a question mark pattern which is another pattern favoured by the Japanese. I must admit I loved the 3 step kohaku, I wish I lived closer because I would definitely like that one in my pond. This is why I love koi keeping because everyone who keeps koi has their own taste, Showas are another koi that causes debate because some like the heavy sumi but others prefer less sumi, I prefer Sankes as they have less sumi I also prefer Bekkos because they have less sumi than shiro utsuris but those shiros today defiantly look like they have much less sumi than the older shiros. I also find that the Go Sankes are not as strong as the other breeds, chagois and yamabuke ogons are definitely hardier than the Go Sankes because the genes haven't been messed about with. A lot of it also depends on whether you want to show your koi, if your not interested in showing your options are far wider because you choose what you like - not what you think will win. Loving the koi videos, thank you James and Mrs Whisperer for sharing you choices and the standard of koi available
Love that comment and yea I would always pick a koi I like not ever to win a show but i definitely understand what you mean this is why I love the hobby so much as every can do as they wish it’s great thank you for this comment ❤
@@JamesTHEKOIwhisperer123 Sorry to bother you James but I do have a question about the new facility you are planning to develope. Would you ever fill one of those ponds with British born koi? I don't know if you have ever heard of Mark and Lisa who own Cuttlebrook Koi farm that is in Oxfordshire. They have had the farm since 1990 and they use Japanese bred parent koi. Their facility includes mud ponds and polytunnels, I would love to see the difference between the same age and size of koi, one pond with Japanese bred and one pond of British born koi. Their bio security is amazing so there is no risk of health issues, they do have open days but they will also do private tours upon request. I understand why people love the Japanese koi but Cuttlebrook koi have won prizes at koi shows and I think if you did visit them it would make a really interesting video for everyone. I don't know if you have ever watched the channel fish with Carl but a few years ago he started keeping koi, he did go to Japan to visit the breeders but he has also been to Cuttlebrook, the video is called the day I went swimming with big friendly fish, I think you would find the whole place really interesting but knowing your thoughts of having a pond of only British bred just to show the differences. Again sorry to bother you and I forgot to say how much I love the new pond ♥️
I lost heart in koi keeping after losing nearly all my fish to a bacterial problem but watching you buy these incredible koi is making me want to get some more
Hi James I’ve been watching your videos from the beginning of your koi journey on u tube and love the content you should be absolutely buzzing about your new koi but also about your wonderful supportive family really pleased for you all 👍🏻
I was smiling with you all the way through absolutely banging ⚒️ . This is going to be fascinating for future viewing and sorry but i just have to say it! Come on Mrs Whisperer 💪 this is not just a man's word 😂
I believe I drove past there to go to a garden centre on the same road. Shame my pond isn't big enough for Koi, I only have fancy goldfish in tbere (330 litres).
WoW hats off to you mate I’d of chosen the very same as you early days I know but hands down you’ve beaten mrs whisperer so far But that Kujaku Amazing you’ve a good eye And well done on involving the family can’t wait for the development of the koi and more videos from you and yours 👍
@@Michael-m4yis it not possible to use a metal framed pool, you can use a liner and include a side drain and because it's not in the ground it is easily dismantled and moved if ever you move. All you need is a couple of koi so they have enough space grow. I know a lot of koi keepers who would scoff at using a pool as a pond but in my mind any pond is better than no pond. I had a 12.5 ft x 7.5ft by 5ft deep pond, it had a huge bakki shower, large window and the best equipment you could buy at the time, unfortunately we had to move so I set up a 12ft round metal frame pond, used a liner and fitted a 3inch side drain, all my koi grew so well and I had one chagoi that was 14cms when I got her and sadly I lost her after 6 years but she had grown to 78.5cms, the reason I lost her had nothing to do with the pond, the pond worked so so well. It maybe worth thinking about because once you have been bitten by the koi bug you are hooked for the rest of your life. I wish you luck and I hope you are able to get yourself even a couple of koi that you keep inside in a nice size aquarium
I see massive benifits from dipping koi in pp but i can also see few negatives stripping moucus layer back makes it in a way abit weaker should it pick anything up in pond ,but i do believe the stress from been bagged up can make them open to parasites dont tell paula reynolds you dip in pp 😂 i havent PP new fish yet but i do believe i will do does south west koi have a website yet james
Had goosebumps looking at your Kohaku selection, they were all beautiful fish, clean, crisp whites and the beni was vibrant. Tough choices, myself i like the stepped vsriety, but that Inazuma pattern was definately a winner for me. ❤❤
Can Southwest koi fix that smoke detector chirp? Maybe its something else, but my smoke detector makes that same chirp every couple minutes when the batteries are low. Throws me off hearing it in the sw koi vids you've done
Wish they shipped a crossed the big pond! Some fire!!! Would love some for my ponds! Love your vids bud! Always have!!! That’s thee hammer boyyyyeeeee!!! Hahaha give yourself a sirloin !! Butcher too butcher! My favorite steak or as you folks say rump steak haha keep up the great vids bud! From a crossed the big pond!!
Kujaku very clear head nice body line James the kohaku has a lovely ippon pattern the one you put back the 3 step very nice also but the ippon pattern will look fantastic when the kohaku gets bigger I would like to see the kohaku at 3 to 4 years old
Personally not a fan of the Dainichi bloodline, they look unfinished and blotchy. I know in years to come they'll look better but for the price and size, I'd want them looking almost complete if you know what I mean?
If they are finished at tosai especially showa they make crap larger koi dainichi is the best bloodline in world regularly win GC at the all Japan koi show
