My son’s doctor recommended your book Turn Autism Around. I’ve just started it and am getting ready to do the assessment. I’m committed to this and very grateful for your guidance.
My 2.5 year old son shows a few of the major red flags- does not and has never pointed, speech delay (currently has about 50 words, many of which are echoed, though he does very well with interverbal speech), does not respond to his name (though I find he responds when I say “it’s mama” or something after the teacher has failed to get his attention from saying his name), and doesn’t follow where I point, doesn’t bring things to show me. We started OT and ST about 6 weeks ago and I’m seeing so much improvement already. I’m hopeful that with your book I will be able to minimize the effects of autism in my son.
I have not received an official diagnosis yet but the doctor sees signs based on the RITA-T test results. My son is very happy, no sensory issues, does well with other kids and at daycare. No problems eating or sleeping. The main issue is getting him to speak in sentences and ask for what he wants. He does not have significant lengthy tantrums though which puzzles me if he’s not able to verbally communicate.
Autism is very confusing and I appreciate your guidance very much!

@katpender1 I know this is an old comment, but how is your son doing now? Our daughter has some red flags for autism, and we've also started the turn autism around program

You should also educate pediatricians in US. My pediatician had missed to identify these signs in my kid. He was so reckless. I wonder how medical degree is offered to such poor observers

100% agree. It’s amazing how many pediatricians know so little about autism.

Thank you so much for this spectrum information. It is a real eye opener to understanding the many reasons why certain children or adults are delayed or not communicating properly. Thank you and I hope it allows us to stop being in denial and to quickly get professional help so our child gets the best chance to be as normal as possible. To not do so , would be to disable them further.

Look for a developmental Pediatrician.Make a appointment and when you speak to them , tell them your concerns. It's to early to diagnose your daughter because there's many learning disabilities that mimic autism. So it can be anything from a chemical imbalance or Autism or psychological or ADHD or behavior issues. Any or more of these can be the issue or issues. That being said as a possible cause, I suggest that you take your daughter and allow the developmental specialist to Rule all the possible issues and properly diagnose the issue. And if you are not happy with the diagnosis, you have the right to want a second opinion. Hope this helps.

My oldest is on the spectrum and now our youngest, who will be 2 in a couple of weeks has been showing signs of autism. We have her on a waiting list to get screened. We gave her the M-CHAT screening and she scored high for possibly autism. She has many of the signs you mentioned plus she does a lot of stimming (hand flapping and tightens her arms and hands when frustrated or excited). So now it's just a waiting game because of the long wait for screening to get done. Thank you for your time with these videos.
