I've the Black Diamond Element 45L, absolute dream. What I like: The 'dynamic' shoulder straps. I wasn't aware of them when I bought it, I discovered them hiking. They work well during inclines and navigating over awkward terrain. After discovering them, I was afraid they'd throw me off balance, but they exact opposite happens if you pack your bag correctly. What I don't like: He's not exaggerating as far as the side-straps, the clips ability to hold the string is almost useless; however, I did figure out a way to make them work well (see below). I've an Osprey Aether 60, and I find reasons to take less stuff because, oddly enough, I prefer the $150 Black Diamond over my $320 Osprey... go figure! Fix: I tie an overhand knot (Loop around - stick it through the hole) and it fixed it! Obviously I have to undo the knot and re-do it when a new item occupies the space, but what you get at the price you get it at - i'll tie overhand knots all-day!
Any further comments about the reactiv shoulder straps on this pack? And a comparison to the mercury pack with the swing belt and reactiv shoulder straps? Thanks!
Nope, love the pack. These shoulder straps are more comfortable than the Mercury. I do not notice anything majorly different with the swing belt versus this one.
I need a good bag to throw all my climbing gear into for my climbing trips, would you say this is a solid enough bag for stuff like climbing rope/gear? I have a smaller 20 Liter Osprey as my daily and I need something for my bigger trips
