I agree about rivals, in gen 1 and 2 it really feels good to kick their asses, but in gen 3 onwards you really feel bad on beating them, good thing in Gen 8, Bede is introduced as an asshole rival
I’d argue that Rivals truly became bad in generations 5 onward. Wally and Barry had nice dispositions but their battles were still difficult and their AI wasn’t completely braindead. It wasn’t as satisfying as beating a jerkass into the ground but the fights were fun.
Personally, I really liked the approach Black and White took with their rivals. I thought the balance between Cheren's likeness to Wally or Barry and Bianca's more naive and laid-back approach was really neat. The fact that they also reflected the main themes of truth and ideals was an amazing touch as well. On top of that, N is arguably the most developed rival in all of Pokemon's history, clearly trying to do good, allowing the the same assurance as with the more friendly rivals, yet still doing something completely in the wrong, allowing you to feel as badass as you do for beating up the earlier dickbag rivals in Gens 1 and 2.

Hey, I'm a hardcore genwonner but I love the other pokemon regions too, Kanto and Hoenn (but Kanto more) are my favorite regions, but it doesn't mean I hate/dislike other regions/pokemon. I haven't played any Gen 7 or 8 games, but I like them and I want to get them soon
I was a genwunner.. and then I re-entered the pokemon world thanks to my nephew. Now, I love all of them. I'm evolving more and more. Still catch myself trying to make my teams full of gen 1 but I do stop and switch it up.

the fairy-type isn't based on tinkerbell. the fairy-type is based on eastern fairies. also, if smaug were a pokémon, smaug would be able to learn poison-type moves like smog (though tinkerbell would still be immune due to being steel-type) and fire-type moves like flamethrower (to which tinkerbell would be weak for the same reason)

My personal ten rules on being a genfiver that I follow when defending my favorite generation. 1. Accept that Pokémon such as Garbodor, Klingklang and Vanilluxe are not incredible designs by any stretch, but remember that they were designed to be derpy and/or unorthodox to shake up the series. 2. Defend against the hypocrisy of the Genwunners when they attack the aforementioned Pokémon with examples like the Grimer and Voltorb lines 3. Praise the excellent story of the games, particularly the cohesion between the first games and the sequels, the legitimate moral arguments brought up by Team Plasma, the super complex character of N. It’s also good to mention how characters normally regulated to one-time appearances of no importance, such as the Gym Leaders, get to step into the limelight and grow to an extent. 4. Always remember that Gen 5 had the most Pokémon of any generation, with a vast and diverse cast of pocketmonsters, the stand outs of which became instant classics, and for good reason, and that every reasonable person could find a Pokémon to enjoy in the generation. 5. Remember the blessing of reusable TMs that Generation 5 gave to the world of Pokémon. 6. Always have a list of five Pokémon prepared that are undoubtedly good and fairly unique from Generation Five, and that even the blindest of genwunners will have a hard time forming a coherent argument against. (Zoroark, Hydreigon, Haxorus, Golurk, and Volcarona are some of my go-tos) 7. Even then Hop and Marnie are actually good characters too. Game Freak struck a good balance with the rivals in gen 8.
I’d argue that Rivals truly became bad in generations 5 onward. Wally and Barry had nice dispositions but their battles were still difficult and their AI wasn’t completely braindead. It wasn’t as satisfying as beating a jerkass into the ground but the fights were fun.

Personally, I really liked the approach Black and White took with their rivals. I thought the balance between Cheren's likeness to Wally or Barry and Bianca's more naive and laid-back approach was really neat. The fact that they also reflected the main themes of truth and ideals was an amazing touch as well. On top of that, N is arguably the most developed rival in all of Pokemon's history, clearly trying to do good, allowing the the same assurance as with the more friendly rivals, yet still doing something completely in the wrong, allowing you to feel as badass as you do for beating up the earlier dickbag rivals in Gens 1 and 2.

the fairy-type isn't based on tinkerbell. the fairy-type is based on eastern fairies. also, if smaug were a pokémon, smaug would be able to learn poison-type moves like smog (though tinkerbell would still be immune due to being steel-type) and fire-type moves like flamethrower (to which tinkerbell would be weak for the same reason)

My personal ten rules on being a genfiver that I follow when defending my favorite generation.
1. Accept that Pokémon such as Garbodor, Klingklang and Vanilluxe are not incredible designs by any stretch, but remember that they were designed to be derpy and/or unorthodox to shake up the series.
2. Defend against the hypocrisy of the Genwunners when they attack the aforementioned Pokémon with examples like the Grimer and Voltorb lines
3. Praise the excellent story of the games, particularly the cohesion between the first games and the sequels, the legitimate moral arguments brought up by Team Plasma, the super complex character of N. It’s also good to mention how characters normally regulated to one-time appearances of no importance, such as the Gym Leaders, get to step into the limelight and grow to an extent.
4. Always remember that Gen 5 had the most Pokémon of any generation, with a vast and diverse cast of pocketmonsters, the stand outs of which became instant classics, and for good reason, and that every reasonable person could find a Pokémon to enjoy in the generation.
5. Remember the blessing of reusable TMs that Generation 5 gave to the world of Pokémon.
6. Always have a list of five Pokémon prepared that are undoubtedly good and fairly unique from Generation Five, and that even the blindest of genwunners will have a hard time forming a coherent argument against. (Zoroark, Hydreigon, Haxorus, Golurk, and Volcarona are some of my go-tos)
7. Worship only the holy trinity of Zekrom, Reshiram, and Kyurm, and the original dragon of which they are, despite their might, but fractions.
8. One shall forgive those of Team Plasma who fought against the corruption of their own team and followed N, the true King, into the light.
9. One must acknowledge that every Gen has its strengths and weaknesses, including your own. One must rise above the blind hatred of those who close themselves off from others, and not let oneself be drawn into arrogance, rage, and hypocrisy by their spiteful words. We must be better, as our generation is.
10. And if you need to vent about something you can always bitch about the complete and utter lack of good Gen 5 Megas :)

I could say the same about people like DR. LOOKER appearing in ALL THREE 3DS games. I can say the same about you needing GENESECT to get something special from an NPC in Omega Ruby/Alpha Sapphire. I could say the same about all three 3DS games having Mega Evolution, which even if it isn’t catering to Generation’s 4 or 5, is at LEAST not catering to Generation 1.
You all diss on the Pokémon designs like all 3DS games at the time didn’t look perfect, at least to you. Fire Emblem Awakening, Kid Icarus Uprising, New Super Mario Bros. 2, they aren’t perfect unless properly upscaled with a capture device but even still people love the way the games look. And the DIFFICULTY, oh my GOODNESS. “They’re too easy, wah wah wah,” you know one thing I realize? EXP share existed back in GENERATION 3. So there’s no reason to insult the 3DS games for having it. “The gyms were too easy,” only if you were like me and GRIND FOR FRIENDSHIP POINTS OR EXP. And guess what? The X/Y Elite Four, and Champion ISNT easy, even with my +level 60 Pokémon.
Oh and one thing Genfourers and Genfivers are most upset about: NOSTALGIA. Do I even have to explain?
