I am a combat veteran Marine from the Persian Gulf War.. I was diagnosed with chronic PTSD at a 100% rate in 2011. I know the COST taking another human beings life.
    War is ABSOLUTELY AVOIDABLE.
Each and everyone of us can awaken from the illusion that promotes the slavery of our conscious behavior and beliefs.
I Take responsibility for the experiences/past, however I no longer let that dictate who I AM. I live presently, I stay away from social media, I don’t watch the news, I watch movies to avoid commercials and other negative influences and I purposely practice love, peace happiness and joy.

All wars in history have been between two or more ethnic groups or countries over control of land and countries.
Because all wars result in the gaining or loss of countries and territorial resources, they are territorial wars.
There are, civil wars, wars over separatist states, guerilla wars over control of countries( IRA), or just plain ethnic cleansing so one tribe gets dispelled by death from the territory( country)
Then there are the Warlords( the territorial males) conquerors, who rise up and conqueror countries. The last example of this
was Isis, men from all across the world raced to join them to be part of their territorial army.
The conquerors haven’t faded into history, they still walk among us ready to rise up when pressures and economics and loyalties demand. Our own Kings of England were conquerors who arrived at the head of armies, territorial males.
It’s simple biology, humans are hardwired like every species to fiercely protect their closest cellular offspring. To humans
That is their children, their brothers and sisters, aunts and uncles, cousins and on a wider level their tribe.
We need control of richly abundant territorial resources to ensure the survival of our closest cellular links.
You know simple biology --The old cells must die so they reproduce new cells, ( children) and they will go to war to protect and provide for them. Tribes who are not our bloodline have no value to us as far as the cycle of life, and cellar genetic immortality here on earth goes. In fact we are in competition with other tribes the same as we are in competition with animals for territory to survive. The tribe also protects the individuals of the tribe by providing protection around them.
Racism is really the same hostility, intimidating and aggressive behaviour, we see in lions or any animal when others enter onto what it perceives as it’s territory.
And there is always an uneasy feeling between different ethnic groups ( tribal groups)

That's OK if they are right, describing the truths manifest of the spirit without mentioning the spirit that animates us autonomously material truth; but of course its a huge disservice when they are in error trying to discredit, berate, or belittle others speaking to inform others in the larger truths of life of the Spirit who have found the evidence of the unseen in relation to the material effects. Every country is in decline, overall. One of the reasons why USA has less global GDP share is because other countries have imported capitalism and have therefore increased their production. Unfortunately for tham, they have also embraced government expansion, which is weakening them, just as it weakens us.
"Totally dependent on consumerism" all living beings are "totally dependent on consumerism." We always have been, always will be. Consumerism depends on production. Greater production means more wealth, more wealth always means more consumption.
Plenty of people have "real" jobs.
Your comment regarding Syria is not exactly on point. Syria requested Russian aid to crush a rebellion. Of course, they killed over 1,000 civilians during their bombing efforts. You conveniently ignore the brutal regime of Syria, and you exaggerate the CIA activity in Syria, which is not to say they were not meddling around over there, it's the CIA, meddling is what they do. But of course, Russia was also meddling, so there's that. There is no "unpopular world domination pipe dream" that you reference. ALL countries want to dominate the world. While I accept Friedman's thesis that there is no end to war, the question for the United States is --- WHY get involved?
As Peter Zeihan likes to tell, the United States has little geopolitical need to get involved in the affairs of the world. International importing and exporting involve only about 10% of our economy, and the neighbors we need are next door to us in Canada and Mexico.
Despite that, we have become the American World Empire, telling people and states around the world what they must and must not do. That has involved us repeatedly in wars, some clearly mistakes. We really aren't wise enough to rule the world, and Friedman acknowledge that, noting that our power insulates us from the consequences of our foolishness.
So why bother? Why not return to the foreign policy of George Washington, the first President of the United States: "No entangling foreign alliances."
This is expressed more recently and even more succinctly by a recent American President: "America First."
In the 1960s, we anti war leftists used to shout "The United States is not the policeman of the world!" The left forgot that once they discovered they could gain power over the United States and use it to tell everyone in the world what they must and must not do."
Let the world fix their own problems ---I guarantee you that they will! We in the United States can spend time fixing our own problems ---of which we have plenty.

Model airplanes were originally the product of hobbyists. Now they are weapons of war used in Ukraine.
Radio was the product of scientists and civilian developers (Marconi) the Titanic's "CQD and "SOS calls being an example, before WWI. But then in WWI, radio technology was hugely influenced by the military.
The telegraph and telephone were the product of civilian development in the United States, serving civilian needs.
Development of central electric power grids and large scale electric utilities were a product of civilian technology and was developed to meet civilian needs and demands in the 19th century.
The airplane was developed by a couple of bicycle mechanics in a country without much of a military industrial complex. However, once invented, the first major market was for the military of any interested power, and of course it was shortly wholly a military project during WWI.
The internal combustion engine and the automobile was originally invented in Germany, an the original market was for civilians. In the United States, Henry Ford developed the Model T as a mass industry without the need for a market in the military. Of course, before long the internal combustion engine and the automobile were taken over by the military, but I don't know that it started out that way.
Railroads and steam locomotives were originally invented to serve civilian purposes, but by the US Civil War were used as strategic weapons of war, and have been ever since.
I make the case for actual civilian development of important technology without the military in the 19th century, as described above. But perhaps there was more military there than I am aware ---I invite comment.

    • @JF_76
      @JF_76 ปีที่แล้ว

This! I find his argument so simplistic and ridiculous. I really wonder what enlightenment he thinks making a list of inventions from military research brings us… obviously there is an just as long (actually certainly longer) list of civilian inventions.

Not only does each generation think it's different, but that belief leads into another false concept - the notion that it doesn't need to learn from the past, or those who lived before it "Because This Generation is Different".And the flip side of the coin is, "We don't want or need to learn from the past, we've got all the answers. All we need to do is whatever you didn't do".
This goes hand in hand with the attitude that "We don't want to be like you, your gen is all effed up.
Look at us. We're the first gen that's got it all together.
We haven't done anything yet to justify that attitude. But we haven't messed up yet, so it must be because we're different and therefore better.
But every gen thinks that, so how are you different?? You're already on the same path walked by every gen that preceded you.

...and on top of that CCD - which stands for "Couple Charged Device" was first used by civilians (commercial airlines being able to transmit pilots' view from the cockpit to the passengers, previously impossible due to too stark light/dark contrasts) , before military took hold of it. Before cell phones were used for communication by military they were imagined in Start Track (their "communicators") forwarding their "prime directive" (not war). I heard the story of microprocessor differently: Apollo needed something lighter than a ton and a half computer to lug into Space (not war). Hence iPhone is not necessarily a "military device" but simply a product of this civilization, of which military always was major part, using the same tools and processes. ...it there is anything that changes civilization it is "technology" (and not "military"). Sorry.
Also, once a technology is appropriated by a military the cloak of secrecy effectively kills it for good. Hubble had to be independently developed (and funded at huge budget) even as military had already spent fortune on keyhole satellites of similar capabilities. (NASA learned two decades after the fact after they were donated two decommissioned keyholes.) B 52 technology secrecy will be not lifted until 2050 at the earliest. A number of cold war technologies (regarding shells of ballistic missiles) has been lost for ever and will never be used by current space start ups or costly re-invented from scratch.) Thus military is not really advancing technology but rather parasitic on what is going on at large. For technology acceptance or even existence it is a disaster once it is gobbled up by the black hole of military secrecy. Or do you happen to know, per chance, how was "Greek fire" effected by the Byzantines? One of those technologies lost half a thousand years ago for the same said reasons.
That is also why militarization of Space is such a complete disaster: not only it will put everyone down here at a peril - but it will effectively stop-gag Space development. The only option and outlet, for resources and development, humanity has, to solve Climate... and survive.
The dark view of human nature, what this guy promotes, is, unfortunately, realistic and fully warranted even if I am not impressed with details of his presentation.

The investors Warren Buffett and Charlie Munger say the economic expansion is due to the low interest rates initiated by the Obama administration. At times the government was paying businesses to borrow money. Supply-Side Economics (meaning, giving more money to the top 1% and businesses via tax cuts, also known as Reaganomics) works to a degree. The down sides are that it starves the country of revenue to the point of collapse of infrastructure and education (both things American businesses require to be successful) and much of those business savings are invested in other countries such as China, or, as we are seeing now, used to buy back stocks which isn't the productive economic growth intended by such cuts. Demand-side Economics (meaning giving more money to the average working class citizen via tax cuts and even services such as national health care) also works. In supply side economics, the thinking is that the more money in the hands of the larger amount of people (that don't have tons of savings to start with) will generally get spent, creating more demand for businesses, and re-circulate through the economy faster, and generally start at a local level with car mechanics, restaurants, etc. before re-circulating to manufacturers. As for health care, there are several reports funded by libertarian think tanks that actually show that single payer health care would reduce the nation's overall health care expenditures by two trillion in the next decade. And this is based on Bernie Sanders plan which is one of the more generous models out there. Business-sponsored health care is a major disadvantage for American businesses trying to remain competitive abroad. A businessman running the country should understand as much.

    • @tchoupitoulos
      @tchoupitoulos 2 หลายเดือนก่อน

Yes, but Russia didn't just go because Syria asked them. They don't do Syria's bidding. So what was Russia trying to gain here? We can quibble on whether to call it an "invasion" or not given the invitation, but that's not really his point. His point is what did Russia have to gain from this that they would choose to send forces to fight in Syria? And I think his implied answer was, "Russia invaded to try and show the world powers that they were still relevant, that they could still shape geopolitics in their local sphere of influence, that the rumors of their decline weren't true." Whether you believe that or not, is another discussion to be had.

And the rise of Poland and Turkey. An alliance or union of Poland with Ukraine would create a formidable power, and don't forget that Turkey occupied Crimea and southern Ukraine for a long time. Turkey has natural allies in the 'stans of Central Asia. He also predicts an epochal US election around 2030 give or take, centred on immigration due to a fundamental labour shortage.

@@awuma He’s generally right on Europe and spot on when it came to Ukraine, however he predicted Russia to dissolve in 2010s, so he missed the mark by quite a large margin.
His predictions for Asia are a different beast. He seems to regularly overestimate Japan. The Chinese Conundrum is the biggest question mark of all Friedman’s predictions. It’s still not clear whether they will disintegrate or not, and most “experts” are split into two camps - collapse and catastrophic famine (Zeihan) or superpower (Dalio). Having spent quite some time in China, both options don’t really seem viable to me.

What 2008 proved was not that experts were incompetent but that power and wealth influence what experts do. Experts were paid to 'prove' mathematically that bundling some ok loans together with terrible loans resulted in a security that was ok. Credit rating agencies were then paid by the companies selling these bundles to say they were AAA 'safe as houses'. Enron paid Arthur Anderson to say their multi-billion losses were multi-billion profits. POWER is important in human societies and relations, things don't just happen by accident.

Japan and Poland cannot be great without being attached to the USA. Turkey possesses all three to become a regional power. Future wars will be more economical than physical. The US won the Cold War by bankruptong the USSR. Future wars will be fought by Proxies. The USA strategy has always been to hire henchmen - look up Noam Chomsky's lecture on the US Grand Strategy.
