He was terminally on holiday. Can't wait for the blithering idiot to come before this enquiry where his buffoonery and diverting tactics will be redundant.
This is a man who thinks he is the most clever person in the room. I was hoping for some sort of showdown and was left highly disappointed. He just waffled his way through it.
The trouble is the hubris, inculcated into them in their public, not really public schools, constantly telling them they're the best of all people. Hubris personified.
I suspect they will ignore most of what he said as it was of little value. Anyone who thinks the priority was go globetrotting and then go skiing at the start of a pandemic is delusional. He was also on holiday during the Afganistan crisis.
So much drivel. I went to the Gambia for a four day break in February 2020 we were screened before we even entered the arrivals building by people wearing PPE - on 18th February. Nothing at all was in place at the London airport at which we arrived four days later. Shapps, and many of rest of them, did not do the job well enough.

A thoughtful and considered answer spewing out as much management speak as can be shoehorned in. Didn’t the absolute arse go on holiday when Kazakhstan kicked off too? And who can forget his constant denial of the parties.. next stop the jungle
I was disappointed at how Raab was given a soft ride. It was a word salad. This counsel is not holding his feet to the fire. If it were Michael Mansfield KC he would take control and not allow it to sound like a seminar. Raab was enjoying himself knowing the counsel was out of his depth. Raab has a facial expression, when he's being asked a question, of slight disdain mixed with a steady gaze of vague puzzlement. It's very off-putting and he knows it.
They try and justify all the shit they did and nake excuses for why he went on holiday and missed the cobra meetings but was happy to go to parties. They even try and control the proceedings here. All need to be held to account for their actions.
A polished, assertive, yet co-operative performance from Raab. And yet, the performance of the Government in which he was part of, contradicts his description of how it performed, given that we experienced the worst volume of excess deaths, exceeded by only five other countries, all with much larger population sizes . Were they really trying to save lives?
He seems so very much at ease. Never did he speak so fluently as a minister. It further underlines the nonsense of cabinet responsibility - and how it constrains candour, honesty, and open government. I still think he was not an effective minister, and like his fellows, showed himself to be a zealot, tied to the dogma that hampered the authoring of good policy at a time when there was a real opportunity for unity across the house.
Cooperative would have been respecting the time of the committee and answering the questions directly and concisely. In court, objections would be raised and rightly sustained for this model of testimony.
That was sensible and reasonible points by Raab... If the pandemic started in the UK. being told 100,000-300,000 deaths at the start of feburary and seeing what was happening over the world destroys his arguements. As a island country we could of had much more effective solutions
The holiday question was funny, I’m reading into it “I’m going on holiday regardless, leave the mess to someone else, f*ck it.” 😂 “Get that skiing holiday in we booked, before it all turns to sh*t.” 😂 Loads of waffle and verbal manoeuvring.
Funny that because we were watching all countries not just England & we locked down as a healthcare provider sector for extremely clinically vulnerable on 20th March 2020, why he had his glorious holiday !
Anticipating the question and leaping on the defensive, is telling. These Tories seem terrified that they are going to continue to be kicked whilst they are down. They know what they've got coming
This man is slippery and not telling the full truth. On holiday during covid… on holiday during the withdrawal of Afghanistan, tells you everything about his morality and focus.
Think the solicitor was put in his place. Cummins answered clearly, concisely and the inquiry was being told how government works. Not getting the answers you wanted makes him look foolish!
