      As far as the result, it was quite predictable.
      River was 2nd place in 2022 GBB, and 3rd in worlds champs 2023... and a bunch of the competitors of the 2023 GBB dropped out because they couldn't afford to get to Japan (the gbb used to be in poland) so the competition was lacking and River was an easy favorite.

    If anything, I feel like there's a tug-o-war going on in the community where one side feels pushing the musical aspect of beatbox is the key to growth while the other side feels that the purpose of these competitions get lost as we push further and further in that direction.
    I'm of the opinion that while musicality is the way of the future, that there's a time and place for those performances and if you're going to emphasize music in this context, you at least need to bring a balanced approach with you and not forget that it's ultimately a battle.
    People who like rap battles and people who like rap music overlap but listen to both tor different reasons. Maybe it's because there isn't much widespread beatbox music that it's bled into the competition setting to such a high degree.
    That "ego" you refer to is commonplace in any form of competition by high-level individuals because they're driven by the competition and that's just as okay as being kumbaya all the time, maybe even more fitting in this context.

    8:26 To give u a perspective, there's a beatboxer named Codfish who won Gbb 2018 with just Throat Bass singing and clean basics..Your stuff doesnt always have to be complex for you to win. Not to mention, Napom's liprolls were peaking the monitors and had the strongest resonance than anyone in the entire event. Soo ofc, its a lot different live u see. Also, about the complexity of River, you cant hear all those technicalities soo clearly live as u do in a video format where they do mix mastering and stuff. hahaha I was really surprised that you reacted to this video.
    Your point of view without experience in beatbox was actually very accurate from my perspective. During the event (October 2023) and these last few days that the video was released, there were many people who criticized the judges' decision (it is worth noting that they are experienced people and that they are there for a reason) since for many River is musically well, but for them in battle it only has to be technique (which for me is a misconception because the competition is about seeing who is the best beatboxer, and that leads to meeting certain requirements such as technicality, originality, structure, cleaning and other things outside of beatbox such as stage presence). For me it was a fair victory for River, although Napom didn't do a bad job either. In terms of variety, it was vastly superior and also structurally made more sense than what Napom did. And as for what you said that maybe Napom sounds better live, that's right; His liprolls sound hyper powerful, in fact he is the only one who has so much control and power in that technique.
    I hope that the other comments on this video are respectful, since lately there have been many people who disrespect even the artists themselves.
    Finally, that reference at the end of the Napom battle refers to River trying to musically imitate Gene Shinozaki, who is a beatboxer who excels at that (and who was on the jury). The truth is that that reference didn't make sense in my opinion, but hey, I guess it's funny.
    I hope you see more beatbox videos soon, last month the wildcard stage for gbb2024 began and there are really very interesting videos.
    Thank you very much for bringing the video and greetings from Argentina.

    Live, livestream and official video are all very different.
    I assume you are aware of all the whys and wherefores regarding them so im not gonna go into it. But at this event live a lot of rivers sound got lost, specifically his tight/acute sounds. Napoms bass was unhinged live. During the livestream the same thing could be said. However, official video is a stark contrast. You can hear all of rivers sounds. Napoms bass however is a lot more toned down. Theres been a fair amount of GBB beatboxers that have said the same. That Swiss' (event holders) sound design isnt very inclusive and geared towards certain styles of beatbox.
    Im a huge Napom fanboy, but he lost this one. He didnt bring his A-game. All of his previous rounds this competition were better than the one he brought to this final. River is outstanding. But.
    Ego. You said that Napom was being aggressive with the counter and his actions during rivers round. However, judges have a category called originality. It holds a LOT of points. Enough to sway a battle. Napom pioneered and mastered the liproll. Every single beatboxer uses it. So his originality points are very high. However, River (as stated in one of his jokes) leaned on Genes style and took from it aggressively. Im not saying they sound the exact same. But a lot Rivers WOW factors are Genes style. Napom isnt pointing out that River is a fraud. I think they are simply pointing the difference out between the two of them. Simply for points.
    Its a shame this final is shrouded in much drama. However, i think this final was just the final spark that set alight the war between "battle vs musicality" which is good. I sincerely dont believe both can coexist. Its too difficult to judge as they are both vastly different. Beatboxers have to change their style for battle, and similarly for musicality. The more categories that beatboxing has, the more growth there will be. Whilst we think that music has many genres like Heavy metal, classical, jazz and pop. It woule be hard to judge whats "better" in a battle setting.
    Thank you for reacting and giving a fresh take on a very annoying subject at the moment xD

    River definitely has an ego too, his ego is to pretend like his opponent is basic and terrible. He very often acts unimpressed and makes faces and gestures to the crowd in mockery of his opponent which i personally find more rude than the battle mentality of getting in someones face.
    Trying to share a stage with that level of pompousness and disrespect is bound to make a person frustrated, and i believe thats what we witnessed with Napom's aggression.
    Theyre just trying to throw the other person out of the zone, and everyone has their own method. Some people like pacmax just act like a clown on stage, and making your opponent laugh you could imagine would also take them out of the zone.

    Another perspective, beatbox has developed to a point where it’s nearly impossible to win battles fully freestyling your rounds. Napom and a couple others still do it, and it stands out and is refreshing in that context. Most battlers plan the perfect 1 minute 30 seconds or maybe 1 minute 15 seconds to leave room for a rebuttal. That said, napom’s rounds are always clearly a little more all-over-the-place compositionally and I definitely wouldn’t be listening to them on Spotify.

    I agree with the judges here, 3-2 for River. For me the battle was close, from a beatbox perspective River is more structured and complex, meanwhile Napom controls better the energy of the battle and he's also really powerful and complex (not as much as River in this case). D-low (who was judging this) also said that you can appreciate River more in video, and Napom is a beast live, so that's also something to take into consideration.
    Overall tho River was more consistent imo, especially because Napom has some flat moments because he kinda lacks a little bit in structure sometimes. I still enjoyed the whole battle, and I can see why some people would give it to Napom, but I guess that is just preference when the battle is this close.

    Yo Tony!!! Sick reaction and break down. NaPoM is a very battle heavy beatboxer. In person and always he has a “swaggy” personality on stage it’s his style! Beatbox wise river is much stronger, but it’s the battle effect for many. I also think rover destroyed this though. I hope you react to more gbb23 videos! Look at Wing Vs About Ice you will be shocked man!

    Not trying to take anything away from River he was def great and deserved to win but people tend to forget how much better he sounds after the video is edited compared to what was happening live and i think thats another reason so many people thought Napom took this.

    • @DrumRollTonyReacts
      @DrumRollTonyReacts  9 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I'm curious what edits took place vs the live. Isn't this audio recording direct from the board? Are you suggesting that only River's performances were "edited" and the other was not? Are we not hearing the same listening environment for both performers? Lol how does this work

    • @Chunaga
      @Chunaga 9 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@DrumRollTonyReactsI don't think they do any crazy editing but they for sure touch up everyone's round. Definitely not saying only Rivers was edited. It's just a lot harder to differentiate their cleanliness/power difference on the videos they put out. River just has a lot harder of a style with his sounds/combos on the live mic. I still do think River took this though because Napom messed up with his time management IMO.

      @@DrumRollTonyReacts in river's 2nd round small details techniques were present , which judges and crowd couldnt hear some details of river live, but as we speak about the video right now its intresting that just little bit of editing it showcased river really well the details were more visible. although nothing to take away from river its that sometimes sounds just dont come out live that well, no fault of participant it just that we need studio to get those details. and speaking of napom there wasnt much to bring out of napom through editting as he didnt used much details , more so bass.
      my whole river vs napom thoughts ,
      it definitely seemed napom had ego although if you see from our perspective napom was just being funny , let me clarify he was the most experienced beatboxer on this gbb23 , as he was familiar with the stage , for him it was party , dude was just enjoying himself freely Popping bubble wrap.
      i was quite frustrated at comments on the original river vs napom video , they were saying river's 1 round was useless. they commented this way cause beatboxing hasnt gone to professional level yet so community seems to be lacking proffessional perspective. I'm glad tony you have same thoughts as me about river's 1st round.
      also for judges ,common beatboxers the history of sound matters a lot , different sounds have different history, the bass you heard in napom's 1st round is created with liproll , for us sounds are like mechanical parts of cars, even tho what river did was complex and napom seemed simple for you tony but in reality napom had the best car engine in the world "liproll".
      i always love to watch your whole videos, any questions ?

      @jhsofficialbluray4573 I can't fathom someone calling the first round worthless 🤯It was FULL of great musicianship. When you read comments like that, you just have to remember that anyone with an internet connection can type. Like... what have they achieved in their life musically? Probably nothing.

    • @threeeyedmutatedfish
      @threeeyedmutatedfish 9 หลายเดือนก่อน

    • @South-uh5wu
      @South-uh5wu 9 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @threeeyedmutatedfish i mean it was close up until napom's counter... afterwards it's pretty hard to say it was close now that river's second round was pretty much obsolete
