Avoid excessive heat in the house. Place your gardenia on a humidity tray that has a grid on top and the water is inside the basin! You can also use an old ice tray for the same purpose. As the water evaporates your gardenia will get the humidity it needs. Also never let them dry out!! As a rule of thumb I water mine every other day with about a cup of water and the soil stays constantly moist. I have had mine for 10 years and it's still going strong.

I well known in my circles as a gardenia fan. I live in New Zealand and with a bit of love and care have had no troubles growing these. Once established they are even frost hardy. The question I would like to know is how can I increase the survival rate when moving well established gardenia from one part of the garden to the other (breaks my heart to move them but hubby going through a midlife DIY crisis!!)

Hei!!! My gardenia gave lots of flowers last year. But this year the plant didn't flower at all. I kept it in a bright room, with indirect sunlight...but it became very dull... then I kept it in full sun, gave neem water, and now the leaves are turning yellow. Please guide me.

@99truckstop all plants love the sun of course, but the plants available for use in the home have been grown in greenhouses and aren't accustomed to the sun. Our sun in Alberta is also very dry and intense, which it isn't used to in any conditions. You can grow many plants outside in the full sun but they will need to be slowly acclimated if they have been grown in a greenhouse.

@Tayrte It's kind of difficult to start a gardenia from a cutting but if you do want to try use a rooting hormone gel. Take the cutting and dip it into the rooting gel an then plant the cutting. Hope this works!

@hamstery32 Yes sometimes this does happen. If your new baby survives into next spring you should get much larger blooms and plenty of them. Best of luck to you and your garden.......Michael

@Whiskeyis100 Can I multiply gardenias (or do you call it transplant)? I wanna make more gardenias in our backyard and so I'm wondering if I can cut a branch and plant it to make a new one. Does it work? Anyone please answer thank you.

I've transplanted a gardenia bush to a more sunny location and the plant has browned. Is this normal ? Also, are coffee grounds good around gardenias?
