Seeing the cottages painted in Falu red and white strongly reminds me of my family's old cottage in northern Michigan, intentionally painted to resemble Sweden's cottages. At least 5 generations of the Swedish-American side of my family visited there at some point over the years.
Jasmine loves the music in this one. Houses are very cute. That pilot's house is incredible. That facility offers a lot of services. Glad she let you take a cheeky peek into the church
Thanks Jasmine! Glad you're enjoying the grooves. Very kind of here to let me inside the church, she probably missed some of her lunch break because of me!
Could it be due to Brännö and Styrsö being easier and quicker to get to? I visited Brännö because it looked nice and had a good ferry schedule. I will make a note of Köpstadsö in my map though - thanks for the suggestion.
Hi Matt Another exciting adventure. Full of historical details. Fascinating background re the sea pilots. Such a lovely place regardless of weather or the winter. PS Good haircut (I don’t miss any detail) Have a great week Zoltan PS Loved the interior of the church and of course that the lady would unlock it for you…exactly what I would have done
Thanks Zoltan, I thought it was about time I had it cut! Glad you enjoyed the video, yes that lady was very kind to open it back up for me. It probably cost her 15 minutes of her lunch break. Enjoyed the day although it would have been nicer to see some blue skies and winter sun.
Yeah I had a good conversation with her and she seemed quite sure so I went with what she was saying. Was I right in the first instance or are we going down the road of the vernacular?
If there was a meeting of kings at Brännö 1000 years ago, there wasn't a king of Sweden present, since the kingdom of Sweden didn't exist yet. There might have been a king of Västra Götaland (the western part of what is now Sweden).

You should really come back in the summer for this. Absolutely totally another experience. Night and day.
Sweden has most islands in the entire world.
Thanks, yes I've heard lots of good things about the Swedish summertime. Next time I'll try and make it a summer trip. Thanks for watching!! 👍

Great that those cottages remind you of home, northern Michigan sounds nice! Lots of family history right there. Thanks for tuning in 👍

Wow. The best place. I love the islands❤
Loved it!!
Many who visit Southern archipelago always miss out a small stunning island that is called Köpstadsö, everyone are always hitting Brännö and Styrsö.

@MattWhitingsEurope The other ferry at Saltholmen first stop are Köpstadsö then Styrsö.
Handy to know, thanks 👍
It’s much more beautiful on a sunny and warm day :)
Next time I'll try and visit during the summertime. Thanks for tuning in!

Great stuff to watch!
Glad you enjoyed it!
Just a tip. Don't buy water while in Sweden, the tap water is perfectly fine. (unless you want fizzy water)
Thank you, that's a great tip and will save me some cash next time I visit!
Brännö (Brenneyjar/Elfvarskier ) was indeed a market and meetup place for Viking from all over Scandinavia.
Fascinating stuff for sure. Thanks for clarifying, really enjoyed my day!
When i see that kind of bell tower i can always assume that church is either small or quite new
Yes that's a good point - a couple of revealing attributes for sure. Thanks for watching.
Next time, visit " Hönö Klåva ". A place in the north archipelago
Thanks for the suggestion - looks good. Next time I'll head up to the northern Archipelago. 👍
In the summer it is so much bitter there.
A couple of people have said something similar, next time I'll try and make it a summertime trip! Thanks 👍
@MattWhitingsEurope you are welcome. I can visit new Islands with you. I live there
Thanks, I'll give you shout if I'm back. I've left Sweden for the time being.
Funny how her correcting your pronunciation made you go from O to A when Ö is the correct letter :-)
Yeah I had a good conversation with her and she seemed quite sure so I went with what she was saying. Was I right in the first instance or are we going down the road of the vernacular?
@@MattWhitingsEurope So, Ö is pronounced like the E in Her. The Ä in Brännö is pronounced like the first E in Enter.
Brenn-(h)e(r)
Thanks, that's really useful. You should be a teacher!
