People in the comment section saying Fognini was just talented and never worked hard. You don't get close to the top 10 consistently by just slouching at home plying video games all day, Fognini worked his ass off. He was insanely quick in his prime and could challenge anyone, it was his mental fragility that got to him, he even mentioned himself that he struggled with his own demons and frustration. But in terms of shot making and abilities he is right up there with the very best and he worked hard to get there.
Agreed! He stayed in the top 20 consistently for years, so there's no way he didn't work hard. It always looks like he doesn't care much but it's simply not true.
And he also beat Nadal on clay too!
@@jasonlai9837 Multiple times too. 3 or 4 if I'm not mistaken. Not a lot of players have beaten Nadal on clay multiple times. Federer, Thiem and Djokovic among them.
@@andreaho Yeah, his body language suggested that he was slouching on the court, but he was lightning quick to get to the ball and always had tremendous hand skills to hit from anywhere.
3:47 the perfect point, as in tennis dictionary
When Fognini is on fire there's basically nothing and no one stopping him
Always loved Fognini. Nobody else makes the game look like a sleepwalk! He defines the word Talent.
yep he has that federer efortless style. Pity that he s a clown.
Sleepwalk? Can u say me what it means in this context please? 😅
@@michelecafagna1755 means he makes tennis look as easy as walking. Casual in his shots and movements but hitting brilliant shots where everyone else looks like they're working hard to make winner's
@@allboutthemojo thanks 👍 I agree
@@michelecafagna1755 I think he means effortless.
Fognini is an unstoppable force of nature when he plays his best, but he is inconsistent, too. Seems like many gifted players subconsciously feel like they don´t need to work as hard as lesser talents. An extremely talented *and* headstrong tennis player (like Federer) seems to be a one in a million combination...
Federer before meeting his wife he got angry easily and destroyed rackets, and one of his regrets is not having understood earlier that this attitude penalized him and that he could have reached his potential sooner....while Fognini again didnt understand it
I think Roger Federer found playing tennis and competing against his peers was fun It seems to me that unlike Fognini he did not suffer from nerves .
Always loved Fognini's attitude. Never a slave, not always a winner, but when he was in the zone, he rode his brilliance effortlessly, almost dismissively. There's probably an Italian word for Chutzpah, and whatever it is, he has it more than any other player, even more than, and more elegantly than Kyrgios.
Sprezzatura!
Fognini is just devastating against big players, specially on clay. If only he could keep that motivation in every stage of any tournament, he could even have had a couple of Roland Garros titles to his name.
Fognini is a very talented player and can hit hot streaks of form but its a bit ridiculous to claim he couldve had a couple Roland Garros titles in the same era as the greatest clay courter of all time as well as the other 2 GOATs. Not to mention Murray Wawrinka, DelPo and Thiem who are or were all great on clay as well
Djokovic is not the only one that has beaten Nadal on RG. There was someone else before him, you should know his name by now (initials RS)
@@adamharte6546 I made an hypothesis, and given his past performances on clay against big players, K wouldn't say it's too far of a stretch. We'll never know, though. I don't think he has chance by now.
@@Edu2503 it is a massive stretch, I love fogna but people like you love to hyperbole player's abilities. Fognini didn t have the potential to win even 1 roland garros nvm mind several ones. He doesn t have the power of thiem who legit would have won like 3 rg s if nadal wasn t around.
@@vladraduandrei5227 What do you mean "people like me"? You're making some wild assumptions without knowing me, buddy. If you're speaking about "power", of course he has plenty. What he doesn't have is the mind, and I clearly said that "IF" he had that mental fortitude, I'm sure that with his abilities he could have won one or two, but clearly he doesn't have it. It was clearly a hypothesis, and not a stretch at all.
probably one of the most quality match of his career!
but I still believe that against Andy he played even better in the Davis Cup 2014 where he won 3-0
I agree. He destroyed Murray in that Davis Cup match in 2014 (I think that was in Rome as well) and arguably played even better that day.
He also was toying with Murray with those drop shots that day, too.
Thanks for sharing these phenomenal highlights with us, Raz!
@@philipcross8121that was in Naples
He destroyed Nadal in Montecarlo and went to win the tournament
Fognini can hit winners from any corner of the court, has an excellent drop shot, smart net game, very very tricky player
Thanks for uploading this! I never saw it and now I’ll save it and watch on repeat!
Love watching Fabio when he's in his best shot making form. 👏👍
5:25 was so powerful 😮
Fogna's dropshots are eerily similar to Alcaraz'
Future Number 1
Unreal ball strike from fognini
Fognini was/is a huge talent and a showman... amazing skills in those hands of his...
Perhaps his zenith was the QF v Rafa at the US Open in 2015...
For me the 2018 was his peak. Not even the won at montecarlo (2019).
2018 was the best season,he won 3 title 250, and lost the final in adelaide against Tomic. But what is more important he played an incredible level the whole season. Especially in Los Cabos he give lesson of tennis to everyone he meet.
Forhand's Fogini is perfect on clay. It's power
Blistering Brilliance..yup, that's the word to describe..
I have always felt that Fabio Fognini's best tennis is unbeatable. Then again, I've said that about other players too, so what you want is to see those kinds of players face each other when they are both on--like Federer vs Safin in the 2005 semifinal at the Australian Open, or Federer vs Nadal at the 2008 Wimbledon Final (there are other matches with different players, of course, but those two matches come to mind immediately).
Fognini is gonna be next baharami
Fabio Fognini won Monte Carlo ATP 1000 master one time
Fognini is like Nalbandian. They only bring out their god mode once in a blue moon.
Also Dustin Brown lol
and stan sadly.
@@vladraduandrei5227 Stan has 3 slams. He's brought out the stanimal more than either Fognini or Nalbandian.
genius, crazy and sometimes idiot, italians...
nalbandian more comleted and stronger than fognini.
That's probably the best match of Fognini EVER,100% deadly lazy accuracy 😂
Fognini is just beautiful to watch in his good days, and this was one of those, so I understand the video. But to be fair, Murray was #1 thanks to the impressive year end in 2016, but was already declining (lost in two to Coric in Madrid, lost to Ramos Vinolas in Montecarlo - who then made the final - lost to Pospisil in his first round in Indian Wells, lost to Misha Zverev in the Australian Open), and it’s not even his best surface - while it’s Fabio’s favorite. Also, he would have soon begun the struggle that made him announce the retirement at first and in the end brought him to hip surgery.
Totally agree. That version of murray was pretty far from the one of the previous year, and the year before. Fognini really play great but my feeling is that night vs murray many players would have looked good
If you told Nick or Fognini that their draw was Nadal, Djokovic, Federer, Djokovic, Federer, Nadal, and any one of those 3 again; they'd be 58 time slam champions.
58 is a bit on the low side ;)
When Fognini feels forehand and drop shots it's over there 😂
Fognini defeated Nadal on clay
This should be an intro video to chiropractics 101
That time was by far the worst moment (tennis speaking) of murray career before the hip injury. He played horribly in melbourne (one of his favourite tournaments), barely played in hard court swing, and probabily the worst clay season of his career, lost with ramos in MC e coric in madrid, played bad in barcelona and here in rome he did nothing to try to challenge Fognini in any way.
In my opinion i think there’s so many other matches for Fabio more significants than this (with rafa in new york and montecarlo for exemple)
The night when Murray was just a wiper
“Big 4”
I like his demolishment of Nadal in monte carlo than this
Why don't you include information about the date and the tournament?
I did. It’s at 0:10, literally after the intro. Why didn’t you watch the very beginning of the video before posting a comment like that?
@@RazOls I mean in the video information section.
@@noeldacosta7621 right 😂😂😂😂
I THOUGHT GABRIELI SABATINY 😅 HE IS GOOD FOGINI
Murray wasn't a great clay courter. He was afraid of the clay. He didn't know how to slide on it. Rafa practiced with him and taught him how to 😂😂. He still never won A slam even though he's been to a final.
Is this 2017?
@@razols2 thanks Raz 🙏
io c'ero
To be fair Murray should never have ever been number 1
Well done!!!... I see you often follow tennis...
At the end of 2016 he reached the top of the ATP rankings for the first time, No. 1 where he remained for a total of 41 weeks.
Worst techqu i have ever seen foginn
Fognini came out of Roland Garros today.... we imagined it... with his head he had already gone too far 😄
