The Ghazwa e Khyber, or Battle of Khyber, occurred in 630 AD as part of the early Islamic expansion. After the expulsion of the Jewish tribe Banu Nadir from Medina due to their conspiracies against the Muslim community, the remaining members sought refuge in the fortress of Khyber. The Prophet Muhammad, leading the Muslim forces, besieged Khyber.
The siege lasted for about 20 days, during which various skirmishes took place. Eventually, a critical moment arose when the Muslims, under the leadership of Ali ibn Abi Talib, managed to breach the fortress, leading to its surrender. The terms of surrender allowed the Jewish inhabitants to remain in Khyber under the protection of the Muslim state.
The victory at Khyber was significant not only for its strategic implications but also for establishing peaceful coexistence between the Muslim and Jewish communities under Islamic rule. This event is considered a pivotal moment in early Islamic history, showcasing diplomatic and military prowess.
