    Approximately 27,000 Maya lived in Copán Ruinas before it mysteriously crumbled. What are your thoughts on these ruins?

      I went to Copan and Tikal in 1980 ( I am from Sydney Australia, a loooong way away!!)

    Overpopulation can exhaust and destabilize a civilization or city, but if I remember correctly, the Mayans did perform trades with neighboring civilizations and cities, so additional resources were still available if weren't enough. Maybe this wasn't enough still for Copán to sustain and they all just left elsewhere. There were still Mayan cities that survived post 900AD so I guess they just upped (literally northbound) and left. Just my 2 cents. Beautiful sculptures all over by the way. If anything, art was truly part of their civilization's focus, and probably played a huge religious role too. Thanks for sharing National Geographic.

    we need our stele to be returned back to copan ruinas it is currently at P buddy museum in boston MA. is one of the 6 kings and its the must important one of them.

    The name maya and and also rasaleela are there in Hindu culture.just research and you might find some clues about Mayans.especially the tamil culture has so much influence on Mayans.
