Because its still in early access. For instance: I made a suggestion to one of the characters to the creator and he appreciated it and made the change, rehiring the voice actor announcer and changing the characters title name. The first game was also in early access for a while but eventually got officially released for Steam, Xbox 1, Switch (downgraded to fit on it tho) and finally, PS4 (which took forever because Sony is dumb. So eventually this too will get officially released. Its still at this moment, a work in progress.
It's very shallow as a fighting game. All the fun of it is seeing representation of classic movie actors/characters in the game, and the graphics are really, REALLY good. For being made by a sigle-guy, its amazing how graphics can go toe-to-toe with the AAA fighting games of nowadays. But gameplay is really meh at best.
Anything that has Bruce Lee in it, there's a thousand haters saying person A could beat him lol. RIP Bruce, the man who fathered MMA and brought martial arts to the world. A man nobody challenged alive.

Or even publicly questioned him? Nobody....He was challenged though, famously on set of Enter the dragon by extras, and he easily disposed of them. This we know. The question remains why sooooo many internet experts are so triggered by Lee's life. I'd say the same reason people are by Ichiro Suzuki having more career hits than Pete Rose in baseball. It's the same reaction. They can't except an Asian man being superior.
I can see Van-Damme’s jump spinning wheel kick where he splits his legs - that he used in Bloodsport against Bolo Leung. I can also see his ball punch - like Johnny Cage’s ball punch - which was also rooted in Bloodsport. And Marshall Law’s step kick-to-flip kick - which was based on Bruce Lee’s flip kick against Bob Wall in Enter the Dragon.
It would’ve been better if they warmed up and kittens said “MEOW” and began to fight like in the Return of the Dragon with Bruce Lee and Chuck Norris 😂 😂 😂

Looks great! It's so refreshing to see a fighting game with an emphasis on tactical striking, reminds me quite a bit of the SSF2:TNC, which is a very good thing. Majority of modern fighting titles are so reliant upon unleashing an overpowered super move at the right time with some spectacular pyro technics. They remind me of Transformers movies :).
I'd like to start this by saying that we all want a martial arts legends fighting game. However, you don't know what you're talking about. Outside of arena fighters. FG's are overwhelmingly centered around neutral and whiff punishing. Which is what you're speaking on by the way. Technically speaking this game is in terrible shape. They've focused so much on replicating the characters that they've neglected the physics of the game, and it's broken. You can see this at 1:16 when Jean Claude does the jump kick and falls into the hitbox on Bruce's head. Just one glaring example. Not to mention how clunky it is. It looks like it handles terribly. The mistake that you've made is the same mistake that all casuals make. Which is to think that knowing combo's = being better. The reality is that if you were to meet me in Street fighter V (the most basic fighting game of today) I would consistently humiliate you without even extending a combo. Why? Because fighting games have been and always will be. Regardless of the combo mechanics. Centered around spacing, footsies, and defense. If you're feeling froggy. We can hop on fightcade some time and duke it out in SSF2: TURBO if you like. It's totally free.

Please realize my comments were strictly based on observation of the posted YT video. I like the minimalist look and feel of this game along with the historic characters for each discipline. Great concept that I hope he continues to develop to address all the flaws you so expertly noted.

I always thought it'd be cool to have a fighting game in which you could play as actors known for action movies like Slyvester Stallone, Wesley Snipes, JCVD Bruce Lee, Tony Jaa, etc. Mk11 was the closest we ever came with that.

Van Damme's quickness and flexibility VS Lee's speed and power! And, Lee's experience as a sensei VS JCVD's actual lengthy ring fighting experience. If this could have happened in real life, this could be some match. Those selling JCVD short; he had this very quick split punch move to the groin/pelvis that Lee likely had never seen before. He'd have to deal with that move, if this was a streetfight and neither knew the other. In other words, typical kung fu movie or old-school style...If MMA, Lee would see film of him and know what he could do. And, he's faster than JCVD! The first type could go either way(but Lee is likely too fast for JCVD to get this move in); while, the 2nd type is Lee's to win!

Not only is this move devastating, a punch to the pelvis can be performed by women in self defense class and requires only a small percentage of the force that a trained fighter operates at to end a fight. An untrained woman uses this move and it works to the pelvis or groin! A cup--even if he used one--will not necessarily help! I get it if Lee and he fought in an MMA match, because Van Damme's element of surprise would be gone. But, we are talking about if Lee had never seen JCVD and they met on the street. At the same time, JCVD has seen Lee. This is real possibility, because Lee had been a legend for a long time before JCVD was a grown man and Lee died long before JCVD fought his first match! Therefore, Lee never saw Van Damme in life. If he woke up tomorrow, he would not know anything about JCVD. So, it is not exactly a fair fight, but they could meet on the street in this fashion(if Lee woke up tomorrow and Van Damme could turn back the clock)..
