I started stitching in the early 90’s. I remember that cute bunny. Tea Jacket Bouquets 😂. We’ve come along way. One hundred magazines? Have you seen a cross stitch picture of a little girl siting on a window ledge staring out into the night with stars in the sky? I always wanted to stitch it. Even now all these years later I still think of her. Great job on Mushroom and Fern. 🎉
Stephanie, I understand about childhood trauma. I went through it myself and then when my niece was about three and a half she started going through it. She had cut off most of her hair, being left at home alone, and later on down the road was partially placed in my custody. I had her from Friday afternoons til Monday mornings. I chose not to have my own children, and being put in that role was a semi shock, but I wouldn't take it back for the world. I taught her how to play sports, ride a bike, and we continue to be close, she just turned 22. Thanks😊
I look at those old cross stitch magazines and see all that back stitching and all those teddy bears! Oh my! On another note, your stitching is beautiful! Have a wonderful May!
I really enjoyed my visit with you. That's how it feels watching your flosstubes. Thanks for sharing more about your life. I'm glad you were willing to answer that question. Great job on your beautiful finish!!! And no one would know it was an $8.00 frame!! Great find!
Another Mary Oliver fan! I have Forest Home too and the fact that you charted a Mary Oliver piece into it makes me really eager to start it. Also, the thrift frame for Mushroom and Fern is perfect! If you had anything larger or more fancy it would take away from the beauty you created. It was really nice of you to share more about yourself. The rays of care and happiness that shine from you is broad in reach. Grateful for people like you in this world.
God bless you for being a child advocate. I have grand children who have needed an advocate. Thank you from an ex Hoosier. Now an Arizonan. You are awesome.❤️
Being a Child Advocate is quite amazing .... Your chat about older magazine had me giggling as while watching I was stitching a chart including checker board pattern from an old magazine from Cross Country Stitching. These have not been published for years. So although I am over in Wales , I have a small collection of these and enjoy reading over the adverts and 'other' crafts which CCS had to offer.
Although I always enjoy for delightful visits - the one where you shared your other personal pursuits is my absolute favorite. I also am deeply committed spiritually and love the writings and wisdom of our faith fathers - plus service to others feeds my soul. Not many people see these pursuits as time-worthy, but I personally think they are missing out. May we walk in God’s presence each day. 💕 Toni
I was on the fence about ordering Morning and Evening by Charles’s Spurgeon. (We are on a tight budget). It’s been in my “save for later” cart for a while and would you look at that… it was on sale. I did not expect to hear about that devotional whatsoever in a floss tube lol. Look how God just used you 😊. It arrived yesterday and I love it. It was so nice to hear about your personal life and it brought such a smile to my face to hear about your faith. Keep walking with Him and encouraging others to join along the way. That’s so awesome you guys do a little study group! I really hope my husband and I can do that someday. You are a joy to listen to! Your stitching is beautiful! What a finish!!! Also your photography 💯. That has always drove me bonkers while shopping online that the photos can be pretty terrible. Good on you for taking the initiative and making it right. Have a great month of May.
What a great light bulb moment you had in regards to measuring your finished projects and keeping the measurements on hand for when you hit thrift stores. I can't tell you how many times I've seen a frame and questioned whether it would work. Also, would love a vintage magazine review! I have decades worth of them and it would be fun to dive back into them. Who knows what we may find!
I so enjoyed your cross stitch chat! Especially the vintage magazine walk through! I was just getting into cross stitch in the early nineties and love seeing the old magazines! Volunteering to help children in need is so inspiring! I had to laugh about you spending your packing time on cross stitch!! I do the same thing, sometimes trying to find a pattern that relates to where I’m going! Not many people would understand this! I get the eye roll around here. I also like to crochet flat, square, or rectangular things as a break from cross stitch or in the car. I always think of Momma Loves You GB(flosstube) and how she calls crochet a dark art as it only uses one hook and she can only knit😊. Happy Spring!
Thank you for such an enjoyable video. I think the frame you chose is perfect for your Chatelaine. I feel it highlights the colors in the design without overwhelming them. I also enjoyed learning a little more about you and I'm very impressed. What a kind heart!!!
I so enjoy your videos! ❤ That $8 frame finishes Mushroom and Fern beautifully. It highlights your stunning work. I would love to see a video about using those highly variegated threads. And Carolyn Manning...she's on my radar, maybe in 2025. Thank you for sharing about yourself. ❤
Hi Steph :) Thanks for sharing so much about yourself with us; I don't think I knew you were a CASA volunteer. Thank you for your work in that space 💜 Your Chatelaine is gorgeous!! Bravo on a $8 find!! I'm loving the website updates - pictures are incredible - and I'm all for a "vintage magazine walk-through" segment during your Flosstube episodes 🤭 I hope you're having a great start to your week!
Wow! This is the first of your videos I've ever watched and you are a joy! I felt a little "pain" when you became uncomfortable expressing how your faith and study might make viewers uncomfortable. I appreciate that you shared what's important to you and hope others respect it. MAN O MAN is your stitching gorgeous!! I'm just getting back into stitching after a couple decades of barely picking it up. My thought was to work on some smallish, finishable projects . . . then you show me Mushroom and Fern - WHAT????? LOL. I might need an intervention! Thank you so much for your video, I very much enjoyed it!
90s cute is totally a thing especially when it comes to cross stitch kitchen stuff (when it comes to non-cross stitch stuff, I have a late 70s in the 80s fondness - luckily my parents actually gave me their late 70s veggies from the kitchen wall so I didn’t have to find replicas, because they have been over them for so long, but I still think they are awesome!)
I “met” you at 2023 Jingle Ball and hope to meet you in person soon. Steph you are amazing lady and I LOVE your website. You’ve turned me into a superfan for sure.
Fun video, thank-you. Dinky Dye threads, good news! Variegated floss video, bring it on! I love the Thread Gatherer line, so beautiful and versatile. Framing tip, absolutely. I have a tiny tape measure in my bag, and list of needed frame sizes for all the resale/thrift shops I haunt. Re: Etsy, I support your business decision. Your website is terrific. You're the boss, keep control. Thank-you for your court appointed advocacy, such important work. Well done, Stephanie!
Mushroom and Fern is STUNNING! I was watching your FT on our 70” tv and I walked right up to it to see the exquisite details, probably what your guests in your home are doing too! Thank you for all of the effort that you are putting in to your website to accurately represent the colors of your fabrics and floss; you will grow your business exponentially with repeat, satisfied customers who know that they will receive what they are expecting! I admire you as an artist, businesswoman and human! Advocating for children is an extraordinary gift of your heart and time. I apologize for being so wordy, however, it all had to be said!
Thanks for the flosstube Stephanie and a glimpse of your personal life. It does feel vulnerable to tell people about the important parts of our lives that are not our shared hobbies. I worked (professionally) for years with sex trade workers and retrained about 18 years ago and now work with families and children with acquired brain injury or developmental neuro deficits. In both jobs, like you, I was working with invisible segments of the population that kind of represent people's worst fears. So it can be difficult to discuss in a casual conversation. But people all know someone and talking about it humanizes everyone. Very important these days when we find it is just more comfortable to talk about cross stitch.
I wrote a bunch of stuff and then I decided to delete it, but I will just say this: if you came to our house and talked about all of your work (past and present) you would have understanding and eager ears.
What a great idea to text frame sizes so you can look for them when out and about. I love the frame, I do not think you made any compromise. Loved your floss tube today.
You are so amazing! I love all your videos but I think this might just be my favorite. I love your honesty and everything about you. Your stitching is beautiful band I want everything in your shop. Thank you for sharing about your personal life. You brightened a difficult day for me 💜💙🩷
I love seeing you in my feed. I am stitching Every Creature right now and it’s a joy to stitch!! You are one of my favorite designers. 😊❤️ I also love Charles Spurgeon! Keep shining your light!! PS….my husband i are retired. Two years ago, we adopted our grandson. He was placed with us to foster when he was 17 months old. He is now four and the joy of our life. 🥰 Thank you for speaking up for the children who need a voice. God is so very good…..
Thank you for volunteering as a CASA volunteer. My son and daughter in law fostered 2 sisters in Iowa and adopted them after 18 months. CASA was not available in Iowa but I know how much time you put into it helping children!
Steph I love that you shared about your reading group and Spurgeon books and sermons! This was my first time watching and I will definitely be back for more. I'm looking forward to perusing your website and hearing more about the Jingle Ball in future videos.
Ah, yes Leisure Arts magazine. I remember it well. Those horse' s legs tell a tale of my past, but honestly I saw worse in those days. If a pattern you wanted had a really bad place like that, your only options were to crop that part out of the picture or to re-chart that little piece yourself. I eventually took a course from Pat Rogers of Counted Collection fame at a Spirit Of Cross Stitch. She showed you how to make lines straighter with whole stitches because she disliked fractional stitches. Those bad old days produced some good old memories!
Thank you for taking the time to "re-photograph" floss. There is nothing more frustrating to me as a customer than to have to go to multiple sites to try to determine how far apart they are on their photos and "guessing" what the true color is! Your site is one of the best!!!! Thank you!
Hi Stef! I found your channel last year and I’ve enjoyed every video I’ve watched. I just don’t comment much. I have to say that your video today was special. Thank you for sharing about yourself which makes me feel like I know you a little bit. Your finishes are so pretty and Mushroom and Fern is absolutely gorgeous! Thank you for all your videos!
So I look up during the flip through of the magazine just in time to see the ad for the Looney Tunes Iron on transfer book. I have that book on my shelf right now. I remember making several shirts and pillow cases with my mother using them and puff paint. 😄
Oh my I am a CAJA in my county and it is so rewarding. I have never heard of anyone in another part of the country being a CAJA like we have in our county. You described the volunteer job perfectly!
Hi Stephanie, if you look at the chart with your magnifiers it might help even better than blowing it up. Your Chatelaine is magnificent and the frame is just fine. We look at the great stitching - the frame is merely a supporting role.
Great episode! Your finishes are beautiful and perfectly framed. I love your photos of the floss. What a difference! Last but not least, inquiring minds want to know who your inexpensive favorite yarn is. 🧶I loved your color choices and it worked up beautifully in your blanket.
I have some fun 90s books and magezine also. Gotta love a puff paint sweatshirt! One of the patterns is for a candle corset. I would love a segment featuring old school patterns.
I still have that looney tunes transfer book 😉 I love your thrift store frame! I have a measuring tape in purse and in car. I’m also a crochet-er who has tried knitting several times. CASA volunteers are the best.
Love the bags, the new designs are lovely, thank-you for the review on the bags and fabric, love the fabric colors, amazing. It is fun seeing the old magazines come back in style, there are so many amazing designs. Like the bunny design, the subject matter on the native design is wonderful except the horses' legs look so weak. I remember doing jar lids so funny now, I think a vintage magazine video would be fun. Lovely progress on your stitching, love your framed pieces, Mushroom and Fern have the perfect frame, the frame does not take away from the design, love it. Oh my gosh your photos are so much better, sorry about Etsy but sometime it's time to move on, I agree with you about Etsy, it was started as a site for handmade items. I like your blanket colors, lovely, I belong to two book clubs love them. I think it lovely you have two days of the month to get together. You would be an amazing advocate for the children in need, thank-you for doing that, sounds like the times you are not designing and stitching is filled.
Mushroom and green is amazing. Both the stitch and the frame. You are doing great things with your shop. Since most of us need to shop by the internet, your changes are so important to us. Thanks. Oh-also, I would love to see ideas on what to do with highly variegated floss. They are hard to resist, I have a lot, but am not great about using them.
Wow your CASA work sounds amazing and is so very much needed in our world! Thank you so much you do for all these children ❤ On a lighter note, your chatelaine is freaking AMAZING!!! and the shop update - damn you enabler lol 😂😂😂 hopping on over to your shop now lol
Loved learning a little about you. Thank you so much for your willingness to share personal details. It's great to see that we are all similar and have our own interests & activities besides Cross-stitch that can bring joy and peace to our lives. I have heard of Charles Spurgeon but never read any of his sermons myself. You made me curious to go search for that. Loved seeing your crochet blanket! The colors are amazing and would love to see it completed. Lastly I wanted to say, your good framed piece is stunning and your stitching elevates the frame!
I really enjoyed your video. LOVED THE MUSHROOM ANF FERN STITCHED PIECE. The frame looked beautiful on camera. I know how you feel about paying hundreds on getting stitching framed, especially when you are giving it away as a gift. Thanks you for all you do for the crosstitch community. You are a special person to help with the children in your community.
Your Chatelaine is absolutely gorgeous! I would love a flosstube with more info on how you framed it - laced or pinned and what you used to stitch it on - qsnap, hoop, scroll bar….. I see your website sells Omanik frames and stands. I would love a flosstube with more info on them. I’ve never stitched on them and I see a lot of people using them for Chatelaine designs. Love all that you share in this stitching community. Have a great day!
My heart does a happy dance when that notification pops up that you’ve posted a new video! Mushroom and Fern… no words, just me staring in AWE with a gaping mouth! 😮 You inspire me to start framing my finished. 💕🪡
Your frame and the work you did to frame Mushrooms and Ferns is perfect! You are remarkable in all that you do - as a wife and mother, advocate for children, designer, business owner, creator of the Jingle Ball, etc. Thank you for sharing who you are with us!
Steph, I so enjoy your videos. The more I see you the more I enjoy and relate to you. I am so happy you are redoing the thread photos - will be extremely helpful and so many kudos for tackling this. Your chatelaine is stunning and what a great frame find. Love learning more about you: church going, poetry loving, nature loving, child advocate. You are something special! Looking forward to more shopping with you.
Your framed mushrooms are gorgeous in that frame. Your eyes are on the stitching! Charles Spurgeon has such wisdom and insite to the word of God. What a privilege for the children you work with as an advocate. You are a special lady with tons of talent!
Your thrift frame was a fantastic find for Mushroom and Fern! What a stunning piece. I love that you meet with friends to discuss Charles Spurgeon sermons. I can't think of a better advocate for children going through a tough time. Blessings on you!
My goodness!!! I so badly want to make a Chatelaine pattern now!! That $8 frame looks fantastic in my opinion and my cheap heart is thrilled to see there are options for those of us who don’t want to spend hundreds on framing.
Wowza! That framed piece is SO Gorgeous! Congrats on a real masterpiece! Someone will gladly pick that up from the thrift store someday, if the price is just right 😂 I just got a pile of Leisure Arts magazines from my library book sale circa 1980s. So fun to look thru, with some stitchable treasures mixed in with a lot of geese . It was fun to catch up with you!
Charles Spurgeon...love listening to his sermons! Your Mush & Fern looks absolutely stunning!!! I need to get mine out again...been neglected for too long! Thank you for sharing ❤
I would love a vintage cross stitch pattern video. They always make me smile. Your twice a month reading group sounds amazing. My husband and I meet with another couple monthly for dinner and a board game and it is uplifting too. Sharing with friends is delightful.
Steph - more wonderful things. The fiber photos are absolutely fabulous - this labor of love (and I am in the jewelry trade and know how difficult good photos can be) will really help us, so appreciate all the hours it has taken you, thank you.
Your finishes are awesome!! I also really enjoy Spurgeon. I’m so glad you shared that with all of us. Thanks for another fun time, your shop is my favorite and you’re doing a great job with the website. It’s very enjoyable to shop there🎉🎉 thanks for being a child advocate. I’m a retired social worker, and we really appreciate you guys!! Denise❤
I have to tell you, no one is looking at that $8.00 frame. They are too busy looking at that stunning stitching! Absolutely gorgeous!❤❤❤
That is hysterical! I have the ‘Summer’ with the check board pattern displayed in my bedroom. It was a rescue from Value Village.
Steph, you are the most
interesting, enjoyable flosstuber! Thank you for sharing yourself with us.
Stephanie, I understand about childhood trauma. I went through it myself and then when my niece was about three and a half she started going through it. She had cut off most of her hair, being left at home alone, and later on down the road was partially placed in my custody. I had her from Friday afternoons til Monday mornings. I really enjoyed my visit with you. That's how it feels watching your flosstubes. Thanks for sharing more about your life. I'm glad you were willing to answer that question.
Great job on your beautiful finish!!! And no one would know it was an $8.00 frame!! Great find!
Beautiful work, Steph! That mushroom piece is so good! Your assessment of the Leisure Arts magazine was both accurate and entertaining. 😊
That Chatelaine!! 😍😍 And your favorite colors are my favorite colors! We can be color besties! 🤣 Love the floss photos! 🙌 It matters.
Your Mushroom and Fern is gorgeous 🤩 I don’t think you could have framed it any better! 🫎
Your stitching and finishes are beautiful. That frame 👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼 and the mushroom and ferns is incredible!!!! Love your videos

Your finish is GLORIOUS! Perfect frame for it! And I love, love, love your crochet piece.
Oh, my, wow! That Mushroom and Fern FFO is so beautiful!!!
Wow, mushroom & fern is beautiful! Nice find on that frame! Great progress on your WIPS. I agree, shopping should indeed be fun 😉
Vintage magazine tour= EPIC. More in the future, please! ; )
Your $8 frame if fabulous! It's ornate enough without taking away from your piece. Thanks for sharing. Take care.

Thanks for sharing your life at the end that was really motivating! Nothing weird about loving a good Charles Spurgeon hook❤️
Absolutely Incredible finish for Mushroom & frame!! The piece is stunning!

That Thrift frame couldn't be more perfect. That piece is gorgeous. Thanks for sharing
I absolutely love spending time with you on your videos, your finished pieces are so beautiful. Thank you so much for sharing parts of your life.
Thanks for the flosstube Stephanie and a glimpse of your personal life. It does feel vulnerable to tell people about the important parts of our lives that are not our shared hobbies. Love , love, love the variegated floss in the Garden Sampler!
I always carry my Vera Bradley tape measure with me when I go thrifting! I am a junk store frame hoarder😆
I believe you picked out
a beautiful frame for your gorgeous stitch! What a find!
Right before watching this I placed an order and the photos of the Dinky Dyes made it easy to choose three colors for a project I am color converting.
What a great idea to text frame sizes so you can look for them when out and about. I love the frame, I do not think you made any compromise. Loved your floss tube today.

Your stitching is beautiful! Love that 1994 bunny!
Love the idea of an old magazine review. Love your videos.
Thank you for volunteering as a CASA volunteer. My son and daughter in law fostered 2 sisters in Iowa and adopted them after 18 months. CASA was not available in Iowa but I know how much time you put into it helping children!
Yes to C. H. Spurgeon! Love his writings!
The things you do are remarkable! Give yourself that credit. You are so fun to watch and always like seeing what new projects you are working on.
Mushroom and Fern is magnificent! Your framing is incredible, a labor of love. Thanks for sharing this!
Steph I love that you shared about your reading group and Spurgeon books and sermons! This was my first time watching and I will definitely be back for more. I'm looking forward to perusing your website and hearing more about the Jingle Ball in future videos.

That bunny is adorable!
I love that you help kids!
Your framed piece is stunning. I love your videos and I’m waiting for you to release another bird in the airmail series😉
Mushroom and fern is exquisite!
Mushroom and Fern is beautiful!❤
You undersell yourself… you are such a caring, giving person. Thanks for all you do!
Thank you for a fun and entertaining episode. I liked learning a bit more about your life and your crochet! Your stitching is beautiful!
You are truly my favorite… for ALL the reasons! ❤
Looking forward to more shopping with you.
your mushroom & fern is STUNNING!!! thank you for sharing about your reading group and how CS helped you through a difficult season. inspirational ❤
Mushroom and Fern is amazing . I don’t even see the frame. ❤️
You are delightful. Thanks for being a blessing.
My goodness!!! I so badly want to make a Chatelaine pattern now!! That $8 frame looks fantastic in my opinion and my cheap heart is thrilled to see there are options for those of us who don’t want to spend hundreds on framing.
Mushroom and Fern is gorgeous!! and that frame ...looking more like $800 than $8...is perfect!
Hi Steph, I ordered a Quantum frame from Lindy Stitches. I'm so excited to finally have one, the craftsmanship is amazing.
Mushroom & Fern is awesome, gorgeous and more! Good work on the framing!
Charles Spurgeon...love listening to his sermons! Your Mush & Fern looks absolutely stunning!!! I need to get mine out again...been neglected for too long! Thank you for sharing ❤

Your finishes are beautiful! Thank you for all you do!
WOW! Mushroom and Fern is stunning! The frame holds it nicely.
I appreciate all your efforts to make your website beautiful and easy to spend money❤
Love your videos. You are a natural. Your framed piece is amazing!
