My first two retreats I accidentally stumbled into the first jhana. It blew my mind. I guess it happened because I had beginners mind with no expectations. It has been very hard to let go of wanting it ever since. That was 8 years ago! I sit every day for 2 hours but have never experienced anything like it again.
That's great, that you tasted what is possible. Letting go of wanting is the hardest thing. So good luck on just being. Have you tried to go on retreats since then? The retreats of leigh brasington with a focus on the jhanas could be of interest to you.
@@Buddhist.Teachings hey, yes I try go at least once a year. I have Leigh's book and have been listening to the videos. Both his and Ayya Khemas videos have been very helpful. I meditate at least 2 hours a day and since following the instructions I feel my meditation has become deeper. The last few days I felt that I have touched on the edge of entering the first jhana again but as soon as I recognise it it goes away. The meditation however is very still and the breath very subtle and I feel great. I seem to be able get into that state at will now by remembering how I did it as Ayya Khema instructed. I feel incredibly happy in my life now because of Buddhist practice. I also have changed a lot including my diet and trying to cultivate metta and letting go of ill will etc. I'm in Australia so not sure I can get to Leigh's retreats but I'm hoping to go to Ajahn Brahms retreat at Jhana Grove in March 24 and also keen to rent a cabin in the wilderness and do a self retreat.
@@bswaysIt sounds like you are in a good place. That is great! Leigh does offer support per mail, so maybe you could adress some questions to him directly. I know several people who did get a prompt reply. and I do know, that he does offer on site retreats where he is present via live stream. So maybe that could actually be an option. Ajahn Brahm is surely someone who might be able to give you guidance on what the next steps might be for you. In any case, good luck to you on your journey! Go get that jhana! Or maybe differently put, let that jhana get to you. :-)
