I have a SP C3 that I'm thinking of modifying. Your video was very thorough and well done, thank you. My C3 has many more components on it then the C1 so I will approach this carefully and hone my soldering skills.

    Hi,
What’s a safe temperature to perform this task without ruining the board?
    Thanks,
    Jamie 🙂🇨🇦

Love watching your content mate. FYI can get pretty good 87 & 103 (packaged) clones for approx 350 from GTZ Tools. not sure if you've checked them out or not

I have a video I'm working on for them. Just trying to get my hands on a real u87 for the shootout! Coming soon for sure!

I have a few questions; I'm a voiceover artist. So the self noise is important. Do you know what the self noise is for the mod mic? Where do I purchase the C1...and which C1 do you recommend for this modification? Also, could I have the mic and mod kit sent to you directly and pay you to do the modification and then send me the mic? Thanks!

I love listening to you pronounce “here” as a two syllable word 😅

It is an interesting project, it makes the mike sounds considerable better than the factory version. I think the mod might worth the time an effort. However it is far from the U87 sound. Saying that it sounds like a U87 is kind of a huge claim. Sorry for the exsesive honesty. But is only my oppinion, perhaps I am extremely used to the Neuman sound that I can detect the difference. But the majority of the people won't hear the difference. The mjority of todays engineers don't pay attention to the instrument response! An for the quality of the singers that we have nowadays, do you really think a mike will make any difference in performance quality, when the majority cannot even sing in tune? You can do it with an SM57, a copy of the "flow" from some supposedly famous engineer and a bandwith "vaccum cleaner" such Autotune or melodyne. Just make everyone sounds the same W/O identity, like the B-9 the Robinson's Robot from the Lost In Space TV show from the 70'. People is already used to that shitty sound. Thanks for the post.

I have a video coming soon comparing the modded mic versus a real u87. I've shot them out in a few situations. Sonically they are way more similar than you are assuming. You might be surprised.
