Just to correct myself about my previous comment - the first two octaves go from low to high C. I appreciate Mr. Brown's technique for starting to play the instrument using whisper notes.
Huge thanks for this vid. I was doing what I THOUGHT were whisper tones, but they weren't. I was doing the Arban pg. 11, 12 simpe half-note slurs, PPP as quiet as possible, It really worked my tongue muscles and, yes, they did help - but they weren't real whisper tones like you showed in the vid. I'm start doing them the way you showed. Again, mega thanks for this vid.
Oh man ! You're incredible, I learned so much 😮 I don't know if you will see this commentary , but wow I feel love ! Thinks and kisses for you and your team from France ❤
Is this what is called the "Whisper G" exercise? How long do you actually do that for? How long should you blow air before taking a breath? I'm everyone is different but curious if there is a rule of thumb?
I am a retired engineer and an amateur trumpet player. Over the years I have come to the conclusion that the instrument is better heard over the range of the first two octaves ( low C to double high C.) Low pedal tones and high notes are not well enjoyed by the player and listener because the sound gets like distorted - not the intention of the instrument 's design. Again, this is my humble opinion as an amateur player.
My guess it's just his way of playing dynamically though I can't say if that is what he really means. Blasting is as he said, overblowing the note. I always told new players that to play loud just means allowing more air behind the notes, not pushing more push into the notes. I'm not really sure the correlation he is making with whisper tones

I’ve seen this brotha perform live countless times over the last 14 years. A straight up master of the trumpet
It's truly magical to watch him perform!
Roy was big on whisper tones.

All I hear is he is blowing air...how does that help you open your sound?
