Good on you for accepting that it’s made you who you are. I’m sure you have a lot of knowledge and understanding of life that other people just don’t and never will. Thank you for sharing. That’s a great kit. Love that it’s in a tin can.
I appreciated your telling total strangers about how you grew up. I value your point of view more than I would value someone who had never been poor. There are many YT Preppers/Survivalists/Bushcrafters who think they will buy their way out of their problems. You cannot buy your way out of everything. Being able to make do and improvise are skills in themselves, skills many don't have. Thanks for the vid!
Thank you for sharing your childhood with us. I can't imagine what it would be like to be homeless, but I see it made you the man you are today. I'm proud of you and I'm sure your Mom is too. My second .22 rifle was a nylon 66 and I shot the snot out of it & I never had a problem with it. We used to go the woods and make small fires & would sometimes try our hand at cooking, but imagine trying to fry eggs on an alum. skillet with no oil. We were not poor, but moneywise we were not rich by any means. Dad worked a fulltime job - didn't drink or smoke and Mom was a nurse so we were in good shape. One day my Dad came home with a case of steaks that he was given by the purser on a U. S. Lines cargo ship that was laid up and they had to get rid of their provisions. Dad made a bbq grill by cutting a water heater in half and putting hinges on it. That first steak I ever had was so good that it stuck in my mind. When we ran out of steaks I asked him if he could get some more, but he could not. Take care and God bless, Ken.
Thank you for sharing. What doesn't kill us makes us stronger. Your a great example of someone who took a hard life and learned from it made the best out of it you didn't fall into the example of your father. People now have it so easy and belly ache most have no idea what it's like to live the way you did.
I always say the same about my raising. I wouldn’t change it for nothing. We worked hard, cutting firewood, growing almost all our food and my daddy hunted. Daddy taught all of us(3 girls) to shoot guns, bows and sling shots. I know it’s not the same as being homeless - but it taught me so many things. In life whenever I’ve had to do without things I’ve been just fine! Never a complaint here! Just grateful I know what to do. Thanks for sharing your poor man’s survival bucket. I think I’ll make each person in my house one!

You can make slot of good stuff with tin cans. Tin snips come on handy, but I would suggest aviation snips (better than tin snips). I use mine for a can opener sometimes.
Two different paths, l didnt want for anything, my Father loved City life, my Uncle took me hunting and l fell in love with the woods. You do things naturally that are work to me, but l learn fast and have a part time Cabin in the Mountains, the first night l spent in the woods it was so dark, my eyes were open so wide they twitched for a week.

My swiss army knife has never been further away from me than in a box and i never remember where the box is. Your poorman's survival kit is interesting. I spent a long time figuring out a poorman's kit. Your kit, i notice, will only help you survive a finite time on earth. My kit will help me get eternal life. It will also make me feel less sad at Christmas, as i included a card with a christmas tree.
What a great video. You have done well for yourself because of the things you went through. Great kit ideas as well. I really enjoyed the video brother. 👍👍👍
For some odd reason and reading the comments I don’t guess any one else had this happen but I tried to watch this video 5-6 times and it would stop I n same place I went to you website and it played great. Great video enjoyed background story👍
Money doesn't dictate emotions, experiences do. I grew up poor and overall was a happy kid. I learned necessary skills, creativity, resourcefulness, independence, self reliance, etc., because I had to. These things made my life so much better. My mom did her best and she spent quality time with me and my sister. My grandpa gave me a Swiss Army knife, a flashlight, and a slingshot for Christmas one year and built a survival kit surrounding those items.
Great. It really makes one appreciate stuff in general more. I've created plenty of kits with very little. Finding/scavenging, Reusing , creating things and repurposing things/gear/resources for them. I totally agree contractor bags are good and useful. I had to use one a poncho before in heavy rain in like 50F temps one night. Left a big like and all the best to you and the family from CR.
You sound different. Where you raised in Boston? LOL Great video. Imagine a different upbringing that didn't lead you to a love of the outdoors and huntin' and such. Man that woulda sucked! Peace, brother and be careful that they don't sneak up on ya!
While watching this video, my mind was (and still will be) on the victims of the TAAL lake volcano. It is very common here in the Phils to see people told flat out to evacuate an area because of XYZ emergency (typhoon approaching, emanate danger of an eruption etc etc) and yet many will stubbornly hang on. A lot of these folks fear that what meager possessions they do own and have to leave behind, will be stolen by looters. When told of the danger they do face, it remind me of that "deer in the headlight look," they just can not believe "it" could or will happen to them. Sad fact but almost no one I have met here in the Phils does anything we westerners would call "prepping." As I watched this video my thoughts ran toward the idea that if only all the people near TAAL lake had built a simple kit, perhaps tailored to our needs here in the Philippines, how much better off they would be at this very moment! Man, a small box of canned goods, a #10 can of rice/person along with the basic kit and they would be doing OK until additional help arrived. Watching the news from the area we see so many people out of doors living under a scrap of plastic sheet or cardboard pieces. Nothing to work with! Our business here has many clients that we never knew were from the area. We are swamped and overloaded with new business beyond measure at this time, due to a great xtnt, the TAAL eruption. We were fist informed by a family member of one victim about the roofs of many homes collapsing under the weight of the wet volcanic ash. Watching locally produced drone footage gives you a surreal feeling. Looks like you are viewing the surface of a different planet. Only when you see a dog walking or there are people milling around below or where a few of the boats have need cleaned off and are floating on the lake do you see anything that makes you realize this is still planet earth. These disasters certainly bring out the best and the worst in people. Senator Pacquiao (YES, The PAC-MAN) has pledged to match any contributions to his family foundation to aid the the people of the TAAL lake area. He unfortunately had to also warn givers of the many copy-at donation sites that have sprung up using his name. This is especially prevalent on FaceBook. The good Senator has asked the NBI (National Bureau of Investigation) to look into the matter, arrest and prosecute any wrongdoers. So there you go, a little preparation now can go along way later when you really need it.

My first basic kit had almost the same identical items . I have four Swiss Army knives now, one in each of our go bags.

Have you scraped risen from pine trees and made fire starter? I just learned that..pretty cool
Yes, you can also use it to make a high vitamin C tea,
