I’m too much of a wimp so I don’t go on many dark rides because they’re spoopy. However I have a soft spot for the Wallace and Gromit ride at Blackpool
Mario Bowser494 when I went to Blackpool I convinced myself that the Wallace and Gromit ride was an indoor rollercoaster and I was worrying the whole way through since I’m quite scared of rollercoasters 😂
Literally lost it at 1:54 where the guy lifts his child into the ride. I thought it was his backpack at first. Anyway, back to dark rides... I do love Phantom Manor!
Mummy in Orlando is one of my favorite dark ride. The museum theme is really cool and spooky. With the car goes further in the tension keeps building up until the Farrah showed himself on the ceiling out of a sudden. And the track wasn’t super tense, good for someone like me who can’t stand strong G force.
as someone who grew up with Efteling I loved seeing Symbolica/Efteling in this list, and even number 2?! Incredible. So amazing that it can stand next to world class Disney & Universal rides. Thanks for sharing, I completely agree with you! Some of my best dark rides, along with the ones in this video: -Flight of Passage -Winnie the Pooh Tokyo Disneyland -Beauty & the Beast Tokyo Disneyland -Jurassic World Universal Being, but that wasn’t open until few weeks ago, same for Beauty & the Beast
Symbolica indeed is nice and absolutely comparable to some Disney rides, but tbh, even if much older, i found the overall experience of Droomvlucht to be even more astounding than Symbolica. Symbolica left me amazed and in awe of what todays technology can achieve. But Droomvlucht just truly left me in awe of being transported into another (dreamlike) place.
Hey Shawn! What a great list of dark rides! Wish i had done so many to put these in my top ten but here are mine (not in top 10 order) - Droomvlucht - Fata morgana - Symbolica (all Efteling) - Pirates of the carribean Disney Paris - Spiderman universal Orlando - Harry potter ioa - Valhalla blackpool - tower of terror Orlando - Mummy universal Orlando - Harry potter universal Orlando
My Favourite dark ride (no particular order): Tower Of Terror (Florida) Hex Rise of the resistance The Simpsons Ride Pirates Of The Carrabien (DLP) Haunted Mansion (Florida) Space Mountain Misson 2 (if it counts) (Most is Disney but I am a huge Disney fan)
My favourites: Hex, Rise of the Resistance, Pirates of the Caribbean (Paris), Tower of Terror (Florida), Phantom Manor, Test Track 2.0, Harry Potter and The Forbidden Journey.
I love this list, Symbolica is indeed an amazing darkride. My top 10 must be: 10- Manoir Hanté- Nigloland, 9-I corsari- Gardaland- 8- Knightride tower- Fantasiana- 7- Phantom Manor- Disneyland Paris- 6- Bos van Plop- Plopsaland- 5- Challenge of tutankhamon- Walibi Belgium- 4- Ghostbursters 4D- Heide park resort- 3- Droomvlucht- Efteling, 2- Symbolica- Efteling, 1- Laberinto del minotauro- Terra Mitica. I just get ghoosbumps with that amazing perfect darkride where everything is just finished from roof to floor.
I only experienced Symbolica, which is behind Droomvlucht and Fata Morgana in my opinion. I’m looking forward to experience Mystic Manor, all DisneySea Dark Rides (especially Sindbad) and Valhalla.
All these rides looks amaizing!! I actully expected the pirates themed ride in Gardaland to make the cut, but I guess it were close? My top 10 1 Symbolica - Efteling 2 Droomvlucht - Efteling 3 Fatamorgana - Efteling 4 Flying Dreams - Ferrari Land 5 Hex - Alton Towers 6 Carneval Festival - Efteling 7 Merlins Quist - Toverland 8 Merlins Casstle - Walibi Holland 9 Maus Au Chocolate - Phantasialand 10 Minen - Tivoli Gardens
Personally the Shanghai Disneyland’s version of Pirates Of the Caribbean wins it for me. I’ve only visited once but I went on it so many times during the day and there were some effects I just couldn’t work out exactly how they were done. The perfect combo of tech and physical movement
Ollie Ocrouch he’s just started this series, their is only one other video which are water rides. Just add his countdown playlist to your library, then no need to worry
Hoped to see Symbolica in this top 10. Secretly kind of hoped to see it at no.1 as it was your favourite for quite a while... 😁 But I do understand the no. 1 though... As a Dutchie quite proud to see Symbolica being second amongst all these great Disney dark rides! 👌👌
My favorite was always the original king Kong ride at universal Orlando. The fact that they recreated multiple blocks of New York and multiple kongs that tower above you always blew my mind.
Of the ones I’ve experienced, I’d say Forbidden Journey and Tower of Terror are my faves. I’d absolutely love to try Rise of the Resistance, Indiana Jones and Radiator Springs. I will make it to California one day!
Love this vid, keep up the hard work, love the channel, i havent got to ride many dark rides as i have only been to uk theme parks but i think that my fav so far is hex
I've seen so many younger kids bail on this ride in the boiler room. Some will be apprehensive from outside of the ride and that just builds as they go into different areas. Some are almost in tears when it's about to get on the elevator.
We can only hope that the virus crisis is over soon and we can all get back to enjoy our Parks, our rides and more!!! Thank you for making this video for us to enjoy during our stay-home quarantines ...
1) Star Wars Rise of the Resistance 2) Splash Mountain 3) Flight of Passage 4) Indiana Jones Adventure (prefer Tokyo's slightly for the smoke ring) 5) Guardians of the Galaxy 6) Tower of Terror 7) Harry Potter Forbidden Journey 8) Radiator Springs Racers 9) Scooby Doo: Museum of Mysteries 10) Batman: Knight Flight
My top 10 in the UK.( Not yet done Valhalla) 1- Pirate Adventure 2- Hex 3- River Caves 4- The Gruffalo 5- The Haunting 6- Tomb Blaster 7- Duel 8- Excalibur 9- Wallace And Gromit 10- Astro Storm
My top ten dark rides ( can be operating, defunct or SBNO); 10. Haunted house monster party - Legoland Windsor 9. Duel: the haunted house strikes back - Alton towers 8. The gruffalo river ride adventure - Chessington world of adventures 7. Ghost Train - Thorpe park 6. Nemesis sub terra - Alton towers 5. Lego city deep sea adventure - Legoland Windsor 4. Flight of the skylion - Legoland Windsor 3. Tomb blaster - Chessington world of adventures 2. Wallace and gromit thrill-o-matic - pleasure beach resort 1. Curse at Alton manor - Alton towers
Amazing video! I enjoyed all your commentary on so many rides, even though I haven't been to Asia yet, but this is in my opinion one of the best videos you've put out. I showed my parents too and they really enjoyed it as well!
God I wish my local Tower of Terror was still the old theme. It was so eerie and interesting. I like the Guardians movies but the theming was just so much better before.
Interesting fact about Indiana Jones Adventure at Disneyland... One of the queue interactive activities you could do was step on certain marked stones which would then cause the ceiling to drop a little bit to make it look like it was going to collapse. This scared people so much (especially children) that Disney decided to disable it. So the stones no longer move if you step on them and the ceiling remains in a fixed position. They did leave working the part of the queue with the spikes. Though lately I've tried to set it off and it appears to be broken. :(
Really great video with lots of good details given about each ride. I have done a couple of those rides but I really want to get on rise of the resistance one day as it looks incredible.
The ultimate dark ride would have been the Star Wars "warring coaster" which was just a concept, years ago. It was a _FOUR_ tracked duelling coaster where you choose to be a Rebel or an Imperial (X Wing or TIE Fighter) and you shoot at the opposing craft with a blaster cannon, whilst traveling through an immense recreation of the Death Star attack from Episode IV. The ride would have probably cost close to a billion Dollars and required a building the size of a stadium. It was a full fat duelling rollercoaster with multiple inversions, all inside a themed, dark ride building. What a shame it was never seriously considered.
Currently my top 10 favourite dark rides I've been on are: 1. Harry Potter and the Forbidden Journey 2. Valhalla 3. Tower of Terror (Orlando) 4. The Adventures of the Amazing Spiderman 5. Tower of Terror (Paris) 6. Pirates of the Carribean (both Paris and Orlando) 7. Ratatouille 8. Transformers the Ride 9. Derren Brown's Ghost Train: Rise of the Demon 10. Hex
You should do a top 10 video about any type of ride not including Merlin Disney Universal and Cedar fair parks so it gives the smaller parks a chance to get a mention.
edward joynes Agree. Shawn’s list is understandable, but kind of obvious. A list showcasing the slightly lesser known rides would be good. Knobels’ Haunted Mansion, Gardaland’s I Corsari, the other Efteling dark rides, even TDS’s Sinbad...
Could you please rank your favourite atraction parks in the world? Here's my top 3 (I only went to the states once and unfortunately i didn't visit a single theme park) 1: Efteling 2: Phantasialand 3: walibi Belgium
Hi shawn thanks for sharing this with us very enjoyable and love the way you explain the experience. I'd love to ride star wars rise of the resistance looks amazing. Love to you as always stay safe xxx
Droomvlucht at the efteling is my favourite...the animatronics are very detailed and more humanlike. I kinda dislike led screens and more childish stereotypical animatronics like the ones in symbolica.. Btw that number 10 darkride looks amazing 😍
Tot, especially the boilerroom, looks exactly like the one in Disneyland Paris. I really really really hope that they never take the original TOT theme from the Disneyland Paris Studios version, because i think it is just perfect the way it is..
Shawn if you really want to see how massive and impressive Forbidden Journey is in Florida accompany a mobility impaired guest. You will board several different elevators plus your own private 'flying bench' area. It was one of the craziest things I've ever seen. You'd have no idea it was there.
4. Burg Falkenstein at Holiday Park. 3. Jaws Universal Studios Japan 2. Amazing Adventures of Spider-Man Universal Studios Japan 1. Harry Potter and the Forbidden Journey Universal Studios Japan
@@maxmustermann2060 I know the ride but not really well since I usually skip it. The last time I rode it was back in 2014 so my memories are a bit fuzzy ;-) I usually spend most of time on G-Force, Scream, Wickie Splash and Anubis.
I had a freak out on a dark ride back in 2005, it was on beezely Bob’s trail (now over the hill) at Adventure island in Southend. I freaked out that much I was put off and too scared to ride a dark ride. Fast forward 3 years to 2008 (I was 11) and chessington with my guide group, I went on tomb blaster and my trust for dark rides started to regrow from there....let’s just say I still have a love/hate relationship with dark rides. My top 10 as it stands are 1) Ratatouille- Disneyland Paris 2) Maus Au Chocolat- Phantasialand 3) Pirates Of The Caribbean- Disneyland Paris 4) Derren Browns Ghost Train- Thorpe Park 5) Neptune’s kingdoms- Joyland Great Yarmouth (don’t ask me why) 6) Tomb Blaster- Chessington 7) Peter Pans Flight- Disneyland Paris 8) Ninjago- Legoland Windsor 9) Ghester Rika (not sure I’ve spelt that right)- Phantasialand 10) Tower Of Terror- Disneyland Paris
Well done. I completely agree with your choices and your rankings. And I haven't even been on your Top 5 rides yet, but you described them so well that I can totally see your point. I am dying to go to Tokyo DisneySea which I hear is the best themed park and Efteling which has so many creative dark rides. I was surprised that you did not include Valhalla from Pleasure Beach in Blackpool. I rode that back in 2003 and was blown away. Maybe it was incredible back then but hasn't aged well? I guess with the choices on your list, there was no room left in the top 10. I had forgotten about Spaceship Earth, but I think that was a smart choice because it is an amazing accomplishment. I look forward to watching your other videos.
Another fun tidbit about the Indiana Jones ride that I've not seen mentioned, there's symbols on the walls throughout the queue. When it first opened, there were decoder cards given out so you could read the symbols. I still got mine somewhere lol
My favourite dark rides/indoor coasters are Forbidden journey (Orlando) Escape from gringotts (Orlando) Space mountain mission 2 (DLP) Rock n rollercoaster (DLP) rip Bubbleworks (chessington) rip There’s a video on TH-cam of an animation of the roboarm being used whilst the ride is in motion - very clever
Totally with you on the dark ride v roller coaster point. I love a good coaster as much as the next man, but a good dark ride just has something more to offer for me. Would love to experience Star Wars Rise of the Resistance - absolutely cutting edge stuff. I tell you what though, I still love PBB's ghost train!
Ikr bubble works was my favourite the first time I went on it I didn't get off I ended up going around 3 times until the park had to close 😂 so annoyed that the gruffalo ruined it
How about a top 10 dark rides not at a Disney/Universal park list? This would help people who want to try some dark ride that are off the beaten path find them (after all everyone know disney & univeral are going to have great dark rides).
@@ThemeParkWorldwide I know right! i'm missing it so much, i really hope the parks re-open soon. I miss de vliegende hollander, droomvlucht, Baron 1898 and all the other gorgeous attractions.
I've been missing my yearly visit to Blackpool pleasure beach (we can't go now) so I've just been watching amusement/theme park related videos (which I do all the time anyway) and searching the planet coaster workshop for Blackpool's coasters...I learned that more people need to re-create the pleasure beach in planet coaster xD someone get on that! I'm up for simulating my experience
I was really blown away by the footage of Rise Of The Resistance! Like you, I'm not a Star Wars fan (I haven't seen any of the films, haha!) but wow, that ride is definitely on my to-do list.
Love your passion for dark rides! My number 1 darkride is Symbolica, but I have not yet been to the States to experience The Rise of the Resistance... Plans are to go to USA in 2024, when my youngest child is 10 years old.
I haven’t ridden it yet but the version of tot in dlp has been changed so that it has different ride stories making it more interesting as it mixes it up compared to the old same story
I thought FOR SURE that Flight Of Passage would be #1. Completely forgot about Rise Of The Resistance. My #1 dark ride is by far JUSTICE LEAGUE: Battle For Metropolis at Six Flags St. Louis
Top 10 dark rides. Me - Wallace and Gromit’s Thrill-o-matic! Shawn 10-2. No mention of it. Me - Oh wow it must be number 1! Yay! Shawn - number one... Star Wars. Me - nope. Unacceptable. Lol 😂 Well W&G is my number one so there. 😛 It actually made me sad that I don’t think any of these were here in the UK.
I have to say, haven’t been back to the channel in like “forever”, but if I had to come up with the best dark ride in the entire world, is what you listed at #1: Star Wars: Rise Of The Resistance! I myself have not been on it yet, but it will be my target when I return to either WDW or DL California. When I first saw the ROTR vids, I almost ended in happy tears, and I believe I’m going to be in happy tears when I experience SW: ROTR in-person. Anyways, enjoyed your TOP 10 for this one. Stay safe from the CoronaVirus, it still lives here on planet earth today!😊👍❤️
I know how universal does the portraits it’s quite simple really. They are all high def TVs that are programmed to do the whatever they show and then a frame is put over to make it look good or if you don’t feel anything it’s likely a special type of screen that universal made that feels like canvas but is a projection. It took about a year to get the paint look right though.
As an educated guess, I’d imagine that the drop on Rise Of The Resistance is the same height as the lift that you would have just done in the AT-AT room!
Thank you for watching! I'd love to know your Top 10 Dark Rides, comment down below!
I’m too much of a wimp so I don’t go on many dark rides because they’re spoopy. However I have a soft spot for the Wallace and Gromit ride at Blackpool
Theme Park Worldwide idk if this counts, but my favourite dark ride is flight of passage or soarin’
Mario Bowser494 when I went to Blackpool I convinced myself that the Wallace and Gromit ride was an indoor rollercoaster and I was worrying the whole way through since I’m quite scared of rollercoasters 😂
I Corsari is my number 4
Hi
Literally lost it at 1:54 where the guy lifts his child into the ride. I thought it was his backpack at first. Anyway, back to dark rides... I do love Phantom Manor!
Same!
Phantom manor is my favourite dark ride
Worst fears:
Superman- Kryptonite
Harry Potter- Dementors
Shawn Sanbrooke- People mistakenly thinking he's a 'big Star Wars fan'
Never fooled me i saw opening day vid 😂
Mummy in Orlando is one of my favorite dark ride. The museum theme is really cool and spooky. With the car goes further in the tension keeps building up until the Farrah showed himself on the ceiling out of a sudden. And the track wasn’t super tense, good for someone like me who can’t stand strong G force.
The Mummy is awesome, love the fire effects and the fake station!
One of my fave coasters because of the theming and effects
My favorite is dreamflight ( droomvlucht) at efteling
This comment made me realise how lucky I am that Efteling is my homepark.
@@tygovanheumen2701 same here
Pirates of the Caribean is my personal favourite, the smell of gunpowder and boggy water makes it extremely immersive
as someone who grew up with Efteling I loved seeing Symbolica/Efteling in this list, and even number 2?! Incredible.
So amazing that it can stand next to world class Disney & Universal rides. Thanks for sharing, I completely agree with you!
Some of my best dark rides, along with the ones in this video:
-Flight of Passage
-Winnie the Pooh Tokyo Disneyland
-Beauty & the Beast Tokyo Disneyland
-Jurassic World Universal Being, but that wasn’t open until few weeks ago, same for Beauty & the Beast
Symbolica is so amazing that it can compete with all these Disney rides

- Symbolica (all Efteling)
- Pirates of the carribean Disney Paris
- Spiderman universal Orlando
- Harry potter ioa

I also love Vliegende Hollander (the dark ride itself isn’t superb, but it works as an important part of the ride to make it a complete experience.
gotta have indiana jones
I'd switch fata morgana and Droomvlucht, but other than that I agree!
Carneval Festival is so good tough it defies ranking. XD

So, one coaster, one droptower, one madhouse one simulator and only 4 actual darkrides?

Is Hex a dark ride? A flat ride? An experience?
My favourites: Hex, Rise of the Resistance, Pirates of the Caribbean (Paris), Tower of Terror (Florida), Phantom Manor, Test Track 2.0, Harry Potter and The Forbidden Journey.

@@maxmustermann2060 Wow, 43 times in one day is amazing. How did your body respond to that at the end of the day^^
I had a freak out on a dark ride back in 2005, it was on beezely Bob’s trail (now over the hill) at Adventure island in Southend.
My top 10 as it stands are
1) Ratatouille- Disneyland Paris
2) Maus Au Chocolat- Phantasialand
3) Pirates Of The Caribbean- Disneyland Paris
4) Derren Browns Ghost Train- Thorpe Park
5) Neptune’s kingdoms- Joyland Great Yarmouth (don’t ask me why)
6) Tomb Blaster- Chessington
7) Peter Pans Flight- Disneyland Paris
8) Ninjago- Legoland Windsor
9) Ghester Rika (not sure I’ve spelt that right)- Phantasialand
10) Tower Of Terror- Disneyland Paris
Thanks for sharing!
Proud of Symbolica 👏
It's gorgeous!
I knew his number 1 Dark Ride would be Rise Of The Resistance
Another fun tidbit about the Indiana Jones ride that I've not seen mentioned, there's symbols on the walls throughout the queue. When it first opened, there were decoder cards given out so you could read the symbols. I still got mine somewhere lol
My favourite dark rides/indoor coasters are
Forbidden journey (Orlando)
Escape from gringotts (Orlando)
Space mountain mission 2 (DLP)
Rock n rollercoaster (DLP) rip
Bubbleworks (chessington) rip
There’s a video on TH-cam of an animation of the roboarm being used whilst the ride is in motion - very clever
Thanks for sharing Gemma!
I'm not surprised about the choice for the number one spot😂
My fav dark rides valhalla.and blackhole and rivercaves in blackpool.
Would like to see you rank each ride for every theme park
If professor burps bubbleworks had stayed the same, I reckon that wouldve been his number 1, haha
Ikr bubble works was my favourite the first time I went on it I didn't get off I ended up going around 3 times until the park had to close 😂 so annoyed that the gruffalo ruined it
I loved it, but not quite as much as these!
Great video. You come across really decent and genuine! Plus you clearly love it. Disney are the best in the business.
Thank you!
How about a top 10 dark rides not at a Disney/Universal park list? This would help people who want to try some dark ride that are off the beaten path find them (after all everyone know disney & univeral are going to have great dark rides).
Great suggestion!
I love your passion and enthusiasm towards this. Great video, appreciate it 👍🏼
Cheers
Symbolica🥰🥰🥰🥰
Efteling is definitely the best theme park in europe
It is amazing, some beautiful dark rides at Efteling!
Thank you for watching!
Hi Shawn ur my favourite TH-camr
Thank you!
Before I start this video, Hex better be on there!
Hey shawn, make a top 20-10 of your favorite most intense elements you’ve experience on a roller coaster!
I was really blown away by the footage of Rise Of The Resistance! Like you, I'm not a Star Wars fan (I haven't seen any of the films, haha!) but wow, that ride is definitely on my to-do list.
always love watching your videos thanks :)
Love your passion for dark rides! My number 1 darkride is Symbolica, but I have not yet been to the States to experience The Rise of the Resistance... Plans are to go to USA in 2024, when my youngest child is 10 years old.
I love dark rides so much, one of my favourite things about theme parks!
12:44 For me, it's fourtinaley because I enjoy Mission Breakout more than the Twilight Zone: Tower of Terror.
I can completely see why, it's just not for me!
Louis
I enjoy Flight Of Passage but it's not a top 10 for me!
My top 5
1 Rise of the resistence
2 Harry Potter
3 i corsari
4 all of the phirates of the caribbean
5 indiana jones adventure
Thanks for sharing!
Your nr.3 is sooo poor atm. Such a shame ; ;
Top 10 dark rides.
Me - Wallace and Gromit’s Thrill-o-matic!
Shawn 10-2. No mention of it.
Me - Oh wow it must be number 1! Yay!
Shawn - number one... Star Wars.
Me - nope. Unacceptable.
Lol 😂
Well W&G is my number one so there. 😛
It actually made me sad that I don’t think any of these were here in the UK.
We have a long way to go in the UK when it comes to dark rides!
Welcome back Kev, thanks for sharing your thoughts!
Loving the TPW jumper
Thank you!
The screens are awesome!

TH-cam you’ve done it again 😂
GREAT video Shaun !!!! Keeping me entertained through isolation 🥺♥️
Good old TH-cam logic! Thanks for watching!
I haven't been on many but I love pirates of the carribean at disneyland paris
I love it also!
As an educated guess, I’d imagine that the drop on Rise Of The Resistance is the same height as the lift that you would have just done in the AT-AT room!
Definitely, I'd imagine about 20ft!
10 best moments with mr milkman
i would sell my soul to go on that star wars ride.... omg gorgeous
The Royal Hall on Symbolica has a really nice smell too, don't you think? That's what sticks in my mind about that ride.
It does indeed!
Stay healthy shawn , great list.
Thanks!
