The 1103 is "hissier" than the Sony. The Sony uses a 4kHz filter, so it will usually sound more "muffled" than most others. It appears that the ICF-SW7600GR was designed with a communications receiver "philosophy." Communications receivers usually give priority to RF performance; audio quality is often an afterthought.
Interesting comparison. The Sony does seems to have a slight edge over the Kaito but it doesn't seem to be much of an edge. I'd say the user interface makes or breaks the decision here. For someone who listens to the same stations regularly the Sony is probably a better choice. However, someone who likes to scan the bands may get more enjoyment from using the Kaito. - thanks for sharing!
Thanks for the comment! I agree with you completely on the Sony. I never warmed to the radio, principally because of those annoying buttons. Although the Sony is a good performer, I would take the Kaito over it. The 1103 is about as close as I've come to a digital radio with something of an analog "feel."
I have seen the Degen`s for sale alot cheaper than the Kaito which I own, but held off buying it because it chuffs or mutes when tuned. I have equated that to DSP processing, which the Kaito doesn`t have. Kaitos did come in only PLL tuning which doesn`t have the muting that you talked about. That may have changed. I have owned the KA1103 for years now and think it packs more positive aspects for the buck, even though you need three hands to use it. Thanks
I have both the PLL and DSP versions of the DE1103. There is no doubt in my mind that the PLL version is much better . The DSP version suffers from a really rough version of soft mute. 73s and GDX
For what it's worth, having two radios so close, side by side, may cause some resonating interference. Also, signal reception can be augmented by moving the radio/antenna around a bit, not just laying in one position. I used to have the 1103, and moving it around the room increased reception. .Alas, one day day my Kaito stopped working. I subsequently read somewhere that when this happens, you can push a reset button, which may override the problem , and restart radio. I bought another Kaito(after stupidly discarding old one). I find the Kaito 1103 good for the price....although wish I could afford a much stronger one. Thank you.
I agree that the Sony wins on this one. the audio tone isn't pleasing but the quality and stability of receive is better. That said, I don't care for the radio due to the lack of a tuning dial. I rarely use my 7600GR for this reason. do you know if the Kaito is the newer DSP version from the last year or so or the older model?
A worldband receiver without a very good quality tuning dial is totally disqualifying for me. at a time, I took the ats909 instead of the Sony sw7600gr. Awesome sharing and comparing, THANKS.
No it's not. This is the original PLL version. You can tell because there is 2 lines of text below the speaker and it says PLL. The DSP version doesn't mention the PLL and is only 1 line of text.

Kaito wins for my ears worth! 73 Lee.
The FM on the Sony uses a filter that is way too wide. First adjacent signals are blocked. The AM and Shortwave are pretty good on both SSB radios.

Are you going to make more videos? I wish I could, hard to find the time I guess. Hopefull you are still listening?

I'm guessing that the radio here is an older model.
You can watch some videos with Kaito DSP in my channel. I don't think it's worse. Is very sensitive and have a good audio

Что это за Kaito? Аналог Degen?
Yes.
I have both the Sony and the kaito la 1103 . The sound is a lot louder on the kaito. I prefer it over the Sony.
Kaito is dsp. The sound is superior but Sony agc gives more stable signal
