Simplicity itself is your 1100! Uncomplicated cars are the most fun to drive. Thanks for taking me along, Matilda, I would love to drive that machine. The landscape was amazing and beautiful too.
This was brilliant Matilda. The little Austin 1100 driving around in some lovely countryside with some good drone footage as well from Billy. I had to giggle at the Clarkson bit but you left the best till last. The rare wildlife part was laugh out loud epic. Very well done team Walden.
Great video took me back to 1977 when I was in the motor club at the age of 17, I build a rally prepared mini , I was due to do a rally on the weekend but blew up the engine, didn't have time to rebuild it so I borrowed the engine out of my girlfriend's 1100 did the rally won my class! Then on the Sunday had to put the engine back into her car.
I went on a Blackpool tram once, gave the Conductor the right coins for the fare, and he said, "Spot On", and I have used the phrase ever since, but the video, the 1100, you and the family, were 100 per cent. The designer or the car, Sir Alec Issigonis was a genius, a man with a vision of engineering excellence, and the body designer, Pinin Farina gave it stylish coat to wear, I prefer the mark 2 with the wider grille and the slanty tail lights which were also used on the Austin FX4 London Taxi from that time. Your suspension ride height looks good, Thanks for the video all, all the best for 2024.
Thanks for a great vlog, which brought back many happy memories. I learned and passed my test (1st time) in an 1100 in the late 60's. I remember on a hill start if you let the clutch out slowly the bonnet would lift slightly so you knew you were at the biting point and you could release the hand brake and move off. Sorry for the ramble but thanks again.
Great video in the days that made in England counted for something and was built to last love the drone footage with the beautiful song overlay although had to laugh as looked like Billy had nodded off at one point when you was walking around the car .. keep up the great videos ❤❤
Beautiful little cars. I'd rather have an old car than a new one. Easy to work on and cheap to run. Has this 1100 had an unleaded head done? Hope your Mom is doing good. Look forward to seeing all your adventures in 2024 have fun and keep yourselfs safe
I never appreciated these cars at the time but now I’d love to own something like that. You’ve obviously done a good job on the engine as you remarked how smooth it is and I noticed that the other day when you started it up. One thing to look out for (if my memory serves me right) is that because the distributor is placed low down and right at the front of the engine, these cars were sometimes prone to ignition problems during very wet weather as water could easily find it’s way into the distributor cap. I think you could even get an aftermarket rubber cover for these for that reason. At least that kind of issue could be easily fixed by the roadside with a dry cloth whereas modern cars would leave you stranded without any hope of a quick roadside fix.
Yes I’ll look into that. I know with a car we had water got into the icu and it wasn’t worth mending e en thought the car was relatively new. Sign of the times all computers and digital 🥲 wish I had enough money to set up a car manufacturer that produced basic quality cars that could be fixed and last 😁
A good little car the B M C 1100 …….I had a blue one back in the 70s , and a Riley Kestral twin carb version after that . Took the Riley down to the Pyrenees with two mates from Morecambe for a mountaineering holiday . The Riley never missed a beat ! The suspension on these is prone to losing pressure , and the sills and rear subframe tends to rust away . If you get a rust free one they are great practical cars . Good luck , Dave H . WARTON
For about 3 years until 1982 I had a Morris 1100. Terrible thing, I seldom used it, but just about everything went wrong with it. It was a 1967 model. I hated driving, never wanted to learn but mother wanted me to take her to various local places from time to time. When mother and car both expired at about the same time I stopped. I travel mainly by bus now, sometimes by train. Morecambe needs a better train service from Leeds via Bentham.
@@matildariverwaldennews I once tried to change gear and the gear lever came out in my hand! I managed to get it back in, and into second gesr, but didn’t dare to move it again and had to drive the whole way home in 2nd. The next day I walked to the local garage and they told me it was a quite common fault with that model. I quite like Morecambe, I prefer it to Blackpool which I find rather too ‘busy’, noisy and crowded. I was staying in Bradford again from 25th to 30th of January and took a trip to Morecambe one day, but unfortunately it was raining heavily all day. When I worked at Croydon College I had a manage who came from Halifax, but who’s father had been a stage manager at the Morecambe Wintergardens, in the 1960s I think. You didn’t show the Midland Hotel, possibly the most famous building in the town, nor the arts centre in what used to be Morecambe Promenade Station, I think it’s called The Platform. I once did the journey on a rail replacement bus and between Bentham and Wennington saw what looked like the remains of an overhead ropeway. Do you know what it would have been? Is there a quarry somewhere where in the area? That pink ballet outfit would look very suitable for a boy - in Billy Elliot.

Great video Matilda, that's a nice example, but i remember a lot of the ADO 16 models being in breakers yards by the mid 1970s. My aunt and uncle in Lancashire bought a brand new BMC 1100 / 1300 every year. I also have childhood memories of a late 1960s trip down the M1 to Northampton to visit a relative too. Me, dad, and another aunt in her new MG 1300, not many cars were keeping up with it. 😁

That’s the spirit, all very well trying to sell but it’s sometimes more hassle than it’s worth as you found out, nice thing is as long as you take good care of it, it’s better than money in the bank, my Vanden Plas 1300 undersealed with waste oil which is keeping rust at bay as much as it can, also not worried about it getting wet as long as it’s not stored away wet🙂
@@glennlingard7851 yes it’s so annoying people asking if you’ve still got it and then when you say yes never responding and people sending silly offers, I wouldn’t like to sell cars for a living 😊
