Amazing work. You can also put a lens flare protector cone somehow to get rid of excessive flaring when against sun. And grade the footage to perfection and character.

Thanks for watching. Yes indeed on all those suggestions.

I am reluctant to add a lens shade as I fear adding such might trap airflow and introduce vibrations. I need to design and build one with air gaps.

Thanks for watching. Much appreciated. For now, this is about as detailed of a video that i'll be making about this new build. For more info about the frame and naked kit, I suggest looking at Straw Hat Aerials channel and website. I will be posting some new video and some gopro to BMPCC4K comparisons.

Thanks again for your excellent support and I love this build. I still have some fine PID tuning to refine, but I tweak things every flight.

Awesome quad you built! (Video looks like you can turn up the color saturation a bit, imo.) Lookin forward seeing some spectacular flights!

Hey Mike, congrats, I know you've been thinking about this project for a long while! Looking forward to seeing more footage with this camera. Curious to hear what settings you find work well for long-range stuff; Obviously smaller aperture opening is going to give the largest focal field, but it'll be cool to see some larger aperture narrow DOF shots, like flying close to some foreground subjects, rocks, trees, for example!
Anyway, very cool project, keep us posted! Cheers!

Thanks for watching and best wishes to you there. Oh.. with this wide lens I think the DOF is really deep even wide open. I may try something like that someday. I'm still dialing in the PIDs but so far its flying pretty good. We shall see over time.

Love this setup, im currently tryijg to build something like this. I like your term "mountain surfing" i live in the ozarks and thats exactly what im interested in doing.
I got an idea im currently looking into that will allow me to do a custom build like this for very cheap and hopefully end up with a decent enough quality build. Would like to hear your thoughts on it if you dont mind.

@@ValleyFPV hey thanks, I'm curious do you have any experience with dji's naza m flight controllers? From what I can tell people don't like them for small racing and freestyle setups but it seems like a good option for something like this. Being able to have full manual mode, GPS mode, or altitude hold mode at the flip of a switch would be really useful in a longer range mountain cruiser like this that's more geared towards making videos.
The main reason I ask is because the original phantom 1 and 2 are built with these, you can find a phantom 1 for almost nothing at this point and have pretty much everything you need for a custom build just need to buy or build a frame and add a fpv setup of your choice.
Having support for gimbal control with a removable gimble seems like it would be cool too.
For the price I don't see why more people are not grabbing the old phantoms up just for custom builds. But maybe I'm just missing something? Thinking most people just don't know about it or overlook it, I didn't know until I seen some old videos of phantom 1 and 2 ripping around in manual mode doing flips and flying fast and started researching the naza flight controller stuff they are built with.
