Winamp's default skin was the gold standard of presenting information in a small area. That tiny window had as much or more useful information than the atrocity that is the Spotify client has on a full-HD display.

that is because the design philosophy has changed over time, at least in the west, in the west we are pussies and we can't handle too much information in the same place. Just compare Chinese, Japanese, South Korean websites, packed with organized information in a single page and Asians can find everything and they are not whining about needing space

Brings me back to using X11Amp/XMMS on UNIX desktops like SUN Workstations back in the late 90s and early 2000s, which was the most popular nix clone of Winamp back then. I think QMMP is originally based on porting XMMS to Qt.

My favorite part about using Winamp was the library/browser. These days I'm using the music player Quod Libet in the "Paned Browser" view, which gives a similar experience and is great overall. So far the best I've come across on linux desktop. I will say though that AIMP on windows is an excellent option, especially when it comes to large scale tagging and converting.

    > "We have a ton of really good music players"
Do we? I dunno, on Windows I was using MusicBee and it was great. I could set things up the way to group albums by artist, edit metadata including the album image which could be found automatically in web, I could customize the tabs in any way, there would be both functional tabs and just visual ones, etc etc etc...
On Linux I never could find something like that, its players were in 100% cases not customizable, lacking functionality, and ugly. Maybe someone down here could tell me if there is something like MusicBee?

Hey DT, you can use aur package called bsp-layout to get your desired layouts in your bspwm WM and if you like xmonad type of keybindings mean followed by keybindings then you can use this specific syntax in your sxhkdrc file. Syntax looks like: super + e; {e, d, v} after using these two things in mine my thoughts has been totally changed for bspwm and you can make a video on exodia os which is arch based operating system and bspwm is default WM there.

I refuse to use Spotify. They rip off musicians. And I like my music files local.
