Yeah she didn't "throw him away like trash." She was a 16 year old girl kicked out of her house. Anyways with the weapon she used to kill him they should be able to get DNA to prove that there was indeed a son there (or at least someone else who was related to her). Providing he was related to her at all, he could be wrong.
