Been digging up some of your golden oldies Dr D. This is another priceless example. Not too many people can talk continental philosophy western psychology and Buddhism in one sentence. Would give anything to have another person in my life with whom to take long walks and discuss these matters. Greetings and best wishes from down under.
I think this is exactly why there are so many popular american TH-cam-videos on continental philosophers. American accessibility with european substance. Great video as always!
I agree with the intersection of philosophy and psychology. Most philosophers today waste their lives playing with "intellectual Rubix Cube" and forgetting the active part of life. whilst the modern psychologist tell us what the synapses in our brains are doing which lacks meaning and context.
Loved the video and its content. I too am currently interested in the intersection of philosophy and psychology. I would like to say that I am probably more interested in psychology than philosophy of the two and this video helped me to understand the philosophical side of the field and how to update my work in the future. I will for sure be taking a look at the other videos you have posted. Thank you!
Amazing video Eric thanks, I really like this concept of "impurity" for important inquiries ;) Would you place Frankls' logotherapy with its emphasis on the "noos" and everyday decision making at this hybrid territory of philosophy and psychology? On a kind of related note, if possible, I would like to hear if you have experienced "genius loci" as a phenomenenologist, or in any case what is your take on this notion. Thanks for everything :) Daniel.
I find your explanation to be rational and completely consistent with my own approach, (although I would say my model is more of an ontologic/phenomeological view), the point of which is to give people access to an, "as lived", use of theory, something that penetrates and alters ones life and success in real terms.
Eric, check out Jordan Peterson's channel if you haven't already. You two are my favorite guys on the web. You both have existential/phenomenological leanings and both explain such complicated subject matter with a cogency that blows my mind. And as always, great video, highly nutritious food for thought.
Can you maybe recommend any books one should read in order to abord this psychology-philosophy train. I guess Jung and Freud are supposed to be on the list, but are there any not so obvious suggestions ?
I put forward the following: Joseph Campbell's lectures on his Mythos dvd's: Mythos 1 & Mythos 2. For me, he masterfully explains the human drive towards what might be called Awakening/Enlightenment or Individuation using Jung's term where this attainment is that of coherence, alignment, and balance of opposites (material & spiritual, inner & outer world) Iain McGilchrist's "The Master & His Emmisary", presented as summary in the 12 min TH-cam "The Divided Brain". Again for me, this presents the extremely well argued thesis that our brain's two hemispheres (Left & Right) two different experiential truths of our existence. These two truths fit within the Buddhist philosphy's "Two Truths", Husserl's two phenomenological attitudes (Natural & Phenomenological), and Science vs. Faith/Belief.
Eric's videos rock! LOL respect :) "I prefer" .. "best for me" .. "seams like that" ... far for philosophy .. but you sure live/make vids beyond category .. respect! ;)
I may be a few years too late here, but on the off chance you, or someone else reads this, I’m interested to know what role does philosophy have in psychologists diagnosis?
Praful Gagrani The song was composed by Duke Ellington (with lyrics by Irving Mills) but sung by Louis Armstrong. It's from the only sessions in which they recorded together, which yielded two albums: "Louis Armstrong & Duke Ellington-Recording Together for the First Time" and "The Great Reunion." It Don't Mean a Thing, I think, is from the latter. It gets confusing! Both sessions were finally released on one CD called "The Great Summit" which included all master takes from both albums. Yet another release, "The Complete Louis Armstrong-Duke Ellington Sessions," includes all master takes plus alternate takes and some studio chatter.
I have no context from your other videos, and maybe this stems from my ignorance in terminology, but your last point of being a hapless wonderer in my mind seems to be at odds with your constant reference to specific terminology/ideas/movements and, as you referenced, Einsteins idea that if you can't explain it well enough you don't understand it well enough. Maybe this is just a comment on the difficulty a layman would have in fully understanding your videos because of the specific references to developed ideologies, but then again the layman might not be the audience you're addressing. Interesting hypothesis nonetheless, even if, as you already addressed, it may come off as a cop-out
Well, even wanderers are allowed to have a few ideas that they've picked up along the way -- ideas that help them orient themselves to the journey they're on. I'm just trying to be up-front about mine. Too many technical references in this video? Maybe. But I'm still learning about this medium. Anyhow, thanks for taking the time to listen.
Cool video, dude not from anywhere! Biologically, are humans not hybrids, thus shall thought follow suit? Dilettante Nomotheism? More like a successful tight rope walk. Style or swing as enabling meaningfulness is that which is emphasised in your excellent vid, thus avenues to irreducible and unquantifiable elements of life are to hand. MQ22266.
Hmmm. Philosophy it's superior to psychology. It's the mother of all social science and method. Psychology points the problem and deal with a purely scientific way. Philosophy it's more, it does have solutions, but they are much more concerned about the soul and it's relation with nature and other souls. Psychology provides short solutions for your money. Philosophy it's free but not for everyone.

Well, I consider your content a huge contribution in my life.
Well, I consider your willingness to listen to what I have to say to be a huge contribution in my life. Thanks.

I'm so happy with your channel.

It makes no difference if it's sweet or hot........
Just give that rhythm everything you got.......
Does anyone know whats the song in the beginning?!
It don't mean a thing- Duke Ellington, he says so at the end of the video Lol

philosophy and psychology are as intertwined as a spiders butt is to its web""
Great video, and I largely agree with you but...please slowly back away from the dictionary 😳
You are a human...😱
