If the director was trying to make Madonna look less beautiful, he failed 😆. I think she looked and sounded better here (at 40, I believe) than ever before. Maturity is very attractive and appealing. Just a gorgeous video so befitting the song.

As I look at it, if Madonna is the main star then she isn't the highlight as well otherwise everyone who stars in their own video would be the 'highlight' which would seem odd. As he is featured in it, to me, Govan's appearances is the highlight as we are already watching the video because of Madonna. But I understand your take/logic on it. Thank you for stopping by. This is still my absolute favorite video/song from Madonna. The music and the video are both timeless. The video for Rain still looks stunning even though it was shot in 1993. Her videos especially during the 90's were always completely ahead of their time.

You can thank WIlliam Orbit for producing this album, it is her best album and he and she completed each other well. He is the one who brought so much space and harmonies in this album, the sounds. He's a genius and although I never really liked her that much, I do like this album, especially Little star.

This video it's from the '90 yet it still looks contemporary/ modern. Madonna is great with visuals and good at working w videos directors with beautiful pallets. She's great with melodies not every artist can use their melodies in a correct way or at the right time in their songs. But Madonna is great in melodies and also she's a great songwriter. Her songs often sound melodic but her writing is great. This song is a soft ballad with a great melody but if you listen to her writings it's a great song. If some other artist with what critics consider "great voices" sings this song with her or his "great voice" would have sounded greater not cause of the voice but because of the songwriting. Madonna looks beautiful with brunnette hair. She looks like a beautiful wolf with those icy blue eyes with dark hair.

The use of the chessboard to express the calculated moves of a tumultuous relationship that left her feeling one-sided in love. To have that strength to know "the power of goodbye" is a beautiful thing. I loved her dark hair with her beautiful eyes coupled with the blue hue that was very icy and popular in the late '90s. As you mentioned about the visuals of the land and the sea. So on point. This is a gem of a song in her catalog of hits. You matched the video yourself and fit the part beautifully. LOVED hearing your reaction as always. Somewhere I read about your friend being friends with Dave of Depeche Mode. Sweet Mother Mary are they incredible. IDK about copyright but mercy if you could react to their live studio versions of "Heaven", "Broken", or "Goodbye". Another who has a voice like no other. You tune in and you know it's him. I can’t believe I missed this premiere. I absolutely adore this video and song by the Queen. She looks stunning. I actually have a painting of her from this video in my home. This video was shot by fashion/celebrity photographer Matthew Rolston. Make-up by the late great Kevyn Aucoin one of the greatest artists in the business whom sadly passed in 2002. So many greats to leave us. This song is so great and on the album to me it sort of answers Frozen. That song tells you that you’re frozen when your heart’s not open, so it’s like she’s telling whomever that line and then the next song is this one which she answers with the first line, your heart is not open, so I must go.
So it always was like, to me, oh that didn’t work out, how sad. I always interpret music and hear it differently though. That’s the beauty of music.

This song and, in fact, the whole "Ray of Light" album is absolutely beautiful. Each song is so well written one can tell right away that they're deeply personal to Madonna. "The Power of Goodbye" is one of my personal favorites in the album. I used to play it in Boston in the morning looking east as the sun was coming out and the combination of that intro with the subtle brightness of the morning sun was really beautiful. To this day when I play it is like looking out my window and seeing that glorious morning light. I'm so glad this album exists and that I can listen to it anytime. Thank you Madonna.

Ray of Light album stands as one of her greatest. I miss videos that had actual storylines. But I would encourage you to check out her videos from Madame X era. Madonna still does videos with actual stories and messages. Medellin, Batuka, God Control, Dark Ballet and Crave would be my suggestions. All are from Madame X era. Medellin is quite joyous and dreamy, Batuka is absolutely beautifully shot video video but it's also very uplifting (her son David Banda is actually credited as one of the writers of the track). Crave is a wonderful black and white video, with a beautifully shot narration in the beginning. God Control and Dark Ballet have serious messages behind them, so they are darker in tone. God Control can be triggering as it is dealing with the need for gun control, and Dark Ballet takes on repression and persecution.

Interesting you mention the sea being symbolic in the video. Each video from the Ray of Light album represented an element: Earth in Frozen, Air in Ray of Light, Water in TPOG and Fire in Nothing Really Matters.

Love this one Psyche. So much to say about this beautiful song and video. Of course I love her look, her eyes look phenomenal. The video is based on an old Joan Crawford movie Humoresque. That movie had the same beach scene where Joan’s character drowns herself in the ocean. Madonna duplicated her look and theme although not the suicide thankfully. M’s version is more of a “cleansing “. But I love that wave treatment blurring throughout the video and the whole chess game scene. Shapes match all through the video, the chess pieces, her ring, the light on the beach. The Power of Madonna 😉

Hi Muhanzui I was only talking about this to other people. I mean there's no one. Eceruthing played is either people who have passed or nature which is fine. I doubt we will ever see the likes of Whitney Celine, Mariah, Madonna, Lara, Mj etc again. Bruno Mars is good but there's no greats. Also everything is instant fame . Years ago you worked literally years before your break, now it's expected within a few weeks of trying.

....to see who can outsmart the other - it's a very intense, intelligent, wise game - I wish I could play, and it really gives one an understanding of how one's opponent's mind works. It was my late father's favourite game; he was so good I bought him a computerised chess set as no one could beat him, only the computer, until he mastered that as well 🙈.......✨🦋🙋🏽♀️
