Another great one! Saw the fishing rods out but no fish! lol Looks like a great time except for the black flies! I don't float any more I drive! Had too much water in the Navy I guess! Take care ! Buz
Wow wow..que c'est beau.. tellement relaxant, avec la voix également 😁...merci pour toutes vos magnifiques vidéos !!💚 connexion nature et qualité de vie..le pire prédateur..le moustique 😁
Nice balance on this video. Scenes, narration, music, etc. Small note on the narration, I could hear a vacuum I think lol I'm still learning how best to do the voice overs myself, but I'm getting better, well I hope. But yeah I really liked how you put thus together, you are improving a lot with the new camera!
My favourite area of the park. Bice lake to Tim river. Met Ralph Bice many years ago and had some nice chats with him. He even signed my book that he wrote Along the Trail. You lucked out on a still Bice Lake. Usually windy by the afternoon
Thanks, I thought you would appreciate the classic. I'm heading the French River for a few days tomorrow morning and I decided to take this boat in honour of the historical waterway.
Thanks Shawn: I love the solitary beauty & serenity. Not too sure about the Black Flies. Did you catch any fish ( although that is not the important thing)? Brian 76 tomorrow
Another fine video. Clearly you go to some lengths to get those great camera shots...to everyone's benefit and enjoyment. Gorgeous Prospector too! Thanks again for sharing your adventures.
Thanks. Yes, my family is preventing me from getting out on weekends, but I'm finding plenty of time for short weekday trips. I just finished another one in Killarney - video early next week.
nice Trip Shawn - sure like ur cedar strip canoe - all we had as a kid growin up in the French river to North Bay area -mostly canvas cover but the odd fibreglass aswell= heavy sum times but sure track well -what does that one weigh Sir -- thanks agin take care
Hi Shawn, Spectacular as always! Love Canadian nature. Question, what does the Millionaire Self reliance mean at the end of your video? Keep it up, we love your shows. On the weekend, I now have my 91 year old mother loving your shows!!!!!! She lives in Lakefield near |P|eterborough and l live in Kemptville, near Ottawa. Take care, Liz
TKS for all your time and effort allowing us to tag along on your journeys .... it's inspiring ! We admire your portaging tricks/tips and are trying to figure out the head strap from your pack that lies under the portage beam from your canoe. Does it not tug on your head? Please explain how this works and if it does make it advantageous. We are always trying different things to make backcountry adventures safer and easier.
Hi Tina. Thanks for your encouragement. The tump line is a camera strap that I hooked onto the side handles of my canoe pack, which then feeds through the carrying strap in the Center of the top of the pack. It transfers some of the pack weight to my neck muscles and really makes a difference on long portages. In the past, most of the weight of a pack and/or canoe was carried this way. I'll make a short updated portaging video to show how it works in more detail.
Beautiful canoe. I'm sure the new one you have is much easier on the back, but gotta love the cedar wood canoes. Thanks for sharing your trips. I keep saying that cause I really enjoy getting to see part of the world I may never get to go to. I know this is an old video, but if you get a chance to answer, do the fish having a slower bite during pollen season there?
Another great trip. Thanks for taking the time and effort to share this with us. Btw,that looks like a good workout, a 50?lb pack AND a 70?lb canoe? Good stuff.
@@MySelfReliance We grew up hauling those Cedar and Canvas/Duralite canoes and Grummans across the park, so to us that was just how much a canoe weighed. Luckily we discovered kevlar in my middle age.
Good day, I truly enjoy watching your videos, they are very relaxing and well edited. I was wondering if it's not to much trouble, to help me with a couple of questions that I have regarding Algonquin solo camping. I will be heading up in the third week of May and in the video, you stated the date was 5/24. I noticed you were wearing a bug netting. Were the black flies biting or just being a nuisance. I had read that they usually don't bite for a few days when they arrive, but after 3 - 5 days all hell breaks loose. Also, would you happen to know if you can portage from Vireo lake to Wilkins lake via the outgoing flow located in the southeast part of Vireo to Wilkins lake, located in the northwest part of Wilkins. I'm trying to take a shortcut and avoid portaging from Vireo, to Creepy lake, to Roundbush, to Alsever, to Aylen river, to Wilkins. After watching your video, May seems to be on the quiet side. I'm hoping to get some alone time, some solitude, to decompress and fish in a quiet, non stressful, peaceful lake (the twelve hour ride would be worth it). Which is a rare commodity here in Rhode Island. Any info would be greatly appreciated. Sincerely, Joseph Gaspar
+Shawn James (My Self Reliance) I think it is really cool that there's a bunch of us here in Ontario inspiring the hell out of each other. One of the benefits to social media. Keep your inspiring videos coming brother!
Hey Sean, I see you had you tent setup close to the fire pit. Read a lot of post that said it should be at least 100ft away. Whats your thoughts on that?
Beautiful and peaceful, I am from Maine we have preservation and conservation lands and the Allagash wilderness waterway for similar type destinations. Where is Algonquin?
Algonquin is in near north Ontario and is a Provincial Park. It is protected Crown Land with a Provincial management. One of Canada's many parks Algonquin is larger than some states and many European countries.
Can’t say enough about the channel. Couple questions though. During winter operations in the boat, what is your method of shoes and pants with the water and mudr? Also, the name of the bottle you and Joe use for heating water with the fire through center? Thanks.
Very nice video. Really like your wood/canvas canoe; what is it? I have a Stewart River 15.5 ft solo wood/canvas canoe I'm taking to Woodland Caribou in August for an 8 day trip. What camera are you now using?
Thanks Jon. I'm not sure of the brand, but the deck plate looks like the shape of Carrying Place. That would be an amazing trip, I plan to get there some day too. I'm using a Sony action cam on the water and a Canon 80D on shore.
Fantastic video and those unrelenting bugs. The scenery is just mind boggling. I purchased a kayak this year and its my first time ever paddling. Once I get some experience I to want to head to the interior of Algonquin. I just subbed so I don't miss any of your adventures. Its almost like being there with your camera work.
Thanks Steve, I got luckier with the bugs over the last couple of days in Killarney - none to speak of. That's awesome that you're going to trip with a kayak. My wife and I kayak every couple of days during the summer and I really enjoy it too.
Its the videos you and others on youtube that have inspired me to give this a go. I have always loved the wilderness. When we were kids thats where we went. Thanks Shawn!
A little, but two things; it's a $25 Canadian Tire tent, and two, the wind was strong from behind the tent, so no sparks at all on the tent. My big jacket, on the other hand, suffered some burn holes. Normally I bivy and that spot would have been perfect with that thick bed of pine needles.
The most precious thing you had was: SILENCE. I wish you have let us have that too, not destroyed it by music. It is the silence, the peace, what we need to share with you. Our brain wants to image it is just there. Right there. But how can we imagine that, when we have to listen to music?
New sub from me. You added me on fb and i wanted to come check out your videos. I live in Kansas so i dont get to use my canoe very much... Always wanted to go on a canoe trip in Canada someday.
Ya that would be great. I would want to get a different canoe for up there though, all i have is a 17 ft Landau solid alluminium canoe....a bit heavy for portaging :)
Always wonder why people invite bears into their tent by cooking right beside their tent, and by doing so put the next user of the sire at risk as well. Pretty rookie mistake.
Wow what a beautiful video thanks for taking us along.
Your videos and Joe Robinet's help me out so much. They are therapeutic for me. Helps me escape the reality of city life
Very beautiful scenery.
Another great one! Saw the fishing rods out but no fish! lol Looks like a great time except for the black flies! I don't float any more I drive! Had too much water in the Navy I guess! Take care ! Buz
Thank you for taking me along with you on your journey.
Likewise, I was just looking at your videos today again.
I hope you enjoy them...
Wow! What a lovely video! The flying insects would be hell for me! Lynn.

Awesome video! Thank you for taking the time to capture all this great footage to share.
Thanks for sharing the good times :)

Beautiful scenery and I like your music as well.
Your photography is excellent and I watch all your videos just for the scenery you manage to capture so much in each shot.

I really love all your videos. Love and respect from India, Brother.
Beautiful trip and beautiful boat. I love the rib work inside that canoe and you carry it as if it were not so very heavy. Thanks for sharing!
Thank you. I WISH it wasn't heavy! Lol
very nice video. you were throwing that canoe around like a beast on the portages!
Nice film! I stayed on that exact site 2 years ago and it was just buggy! I love that area of the park.
Really beautiful Shawn.
Great vid, the area is spectacular. Nice job filming and editing.
Good to see another wood/canvas canoe out there being used......
My favourite area of the park. Bice lake to Tim river. Met Ralph Bice many years ago and had some nice chats with him. He even signed my book that he wrote Along the Trail. You lucked out on a still Bice Lake. Usually windy by the afternoon
I read his book, interesting man. I really like that area as well, but as you say, I got lucky with the wind for sure.
Some great shots in here Shawn. I like your style man. That canoe of yours is very photogenic, what a classic boat. Cheers!
Thanks, I thought you would appreciate the classic. I'm heading the French River for a few days tomorrow morning and I decided to take this boat in honour of the historical waterway.
Sounds great, enjoy yourself!
just wow! :) amazing video! a big fan here! :) 4 thumbs up!
I really like your canoe. great vid!
You are doing super great adventure movies, thanks a lot.

Cool Video! Thanks for sharing.
wonderful scenery . 👍
Nice canoe looks so peaceful out there well when your not bring swarmed !
Lol, true!
"All clean." hahaha. I blow on them or wave them in the air. Good to go. Beautiful video!
Thanks Shawn: I love the solitary beauty & serenity. Not too sure about the Black Flies. Did you catch any fish ( although that is not the important thing)? Brian 76 tomorrow
Lol, you had to ask! No, I hooked and fought one 28-30" laker to boat side, but lost it when I tried to turn on the video camera! On Ralph Bjce Lake.
awesome - too buggy though; i really like the background music, especially in the guitar (mandolin ?) who's playing ?
Another fine video. Clearly you go to some lengths to get those great camera shots...to everyone's benefit and enjoyment. Gorgeous Prospector too! Thanks again for sharing your adventures.
Thanks Andy
Oh but the large mouth bass will be biting use black licorice they love that
Came to your channel from Joe's, great content dude. Keep up the great work.
Another great video. Keep them coming! Though, your tripping pace is putting me to shame this year! A perfect route for the cedar canvas prospector.
Thanks. Yes, my family is preventing me from getting out on weekends, but I'm finding plenty of time for short weekday trips. I just finished another one in Killarney - video early next week.

Thanks. The weight is definitely a bit of a shock compared to my other canoe.

It looks that you've reduced the amount of stuff you carry over the years and your canoes are lighter. Amazing the stuff we find we can do without.
Great video Shawn!
Thanks Mike. I'm enjoying your pics and videos with your clan as well.

Hey Shawn, Is it me or are there a ton of Flies that time of year? Big fan from southern California USA...
Hi Shawn, gorgeous video and music. May I ask, do you have a list of the music that you use? Thanks pal
happy hunting all alone
was disappointed that I had trouble hearing you talk. I just think that you are so soft spoken is all, WOW your trip was goregous
Looks beautiful, sorry bout the bugs\black flys.

thanks for sharing , did that loop in October it was nice thinking of going back in the spring how was the fishing?
Peter Rogers Horrible. Nice area though
My Self Reliance LOL, alot of traffic in alonquin? I'm looking to go on a trip coming from the states. Hows the fishing/popularity over all?

What's the bird calling at the 0:22 mark?
Pretty sure it's a White-throated Sparrow aka Whistler of the North.
I was there on honeymoon in 2002
