he Great South West Walk. Portland. Victoria.
Established in 1981
The Great South West Walk has been developed as a bushwalking trail suitable for most ages and abilities comprising short 2 hour loop walks, full day walks, or for the intrepid, the whole 250km loop that begins and ends at the Maritime Discovery and Visitor Information Centre in Portland Victoria, Australia.
This unforgettable experience winds around 3 National Parks, hardwood forests, the pristine Glenelg River, the picturesque township of Nelson, aboriginal heritage sites, the mighty Southern Ocean and vast sand dunes, sandy bays and beaches, rugged cliffs, freshwater lakes, the Cape Nelson Lighthouse, the stunning Bridgewater Bay and amongst a diversity of natural fauna and flora including Blue and Southern Right Whales, a mainland Fur Seal colony and Australia's only mainland Australasian Gannet rookery and much more.

Why not try one of the 15 shorter sections or tackle the entire 250 km walking trail, either way you are destined to experience some of Australia's most beautiful natural scenery and wildlife. On the other hand, if you prefer to return in the evening to a comfortable bed, shower and civilised cuisine, you can enjoy many of the integrated short loop walks that this internationally renowned walking track has to offer, as it is easy to access the walk from many locations.
The GSWW is located at the Western Gateway to the Great Ocean Road, approximately midway between Adelaide and Melbourne and because of its remote locality and size, does not have overcrowding issues.
Fees and booking of campsites are now required, however the fees are more moderate when compared to other walking tracks located nearer major cities. Further information for walkers can be obtained from our walker liaison co-ordinator during your planning and prior to your arrival.

Well done! 👍👏
That beach section looks tough...i had no idea that there was so much of it on Great South West Walk
Is that Inkpot of yours really 10m deep? That kangoeroe was really special! For us Europeans it's really crazy to see one up close like that! It really looked like a fun trail to do! 😁 Thanks for sharing! Kaat
Hi there! Yeah I was so surprised also! It was my interaction with anyone actually in 4 or 5 days! Hadn't seen a human all that time. Magic!
@@JamesGoodwinCo That sounds really crazy, walking for 4 to 5 days without seeing anyone else... I don't think we can do that overhere in Europe. Maybe Eastern Europe... Have a great weekend! 😁
Well done on completing your first through hike! Looks like you lost the plot a bit there a few times, but good fun. I did a couple of sections of this one in June (Nelson to Battersbys via roads, then back to Nelson via the trail). This is my plan B walk in December if I can't get into Tassie for another assualt of the OT.
So - did you enjoy the longer distance hiking experience? I
I loved the longer distance it was a fair challenge and I cant wait for the next one! Tasmania sounds amazing!!!
Nice video. I was wondering what were the costs of the campsites when you went? They're currently coming up at $18.60 but swear I saw them at around $5.60 not long ago...
Cheers!
Yeah definitely was 5.60 per night.
Why is your staff shorter this time?
I've added a masks to my standard packing list now. Never know when it will be required.
Hey what are maks!!!
A typo, whoops. Masks.
Love that tent ❤
