    Already three years ago when the Keymu prototype timidly showed itself on TH-cam you somehow found it and were the very first one to show your enthusiasm Elliot !
    After all these years, our passion project finally came to life to find the same unfaltering enthusiasm from you and that's beyond everything we could have hoped for!
    Thank you for taking the time during your house works to show our little console in such a light!
    The only detail we can add are that like you mentioned, for legal reasons the FunKey S cannot be sold with commercial games included. It however comes filled with the greatest homebrew games we could find and adding games is very easy, a simple copy/paste from the computer like on a USB key.

      Ok can we address the elephant in the room here? Those controls look way too small for any sort of long-term play. That and, I don't care what he says, that screen's way too small. People already complain about the size of the SP controls.
      With all that said though, I will agree, it's a remarkable piece of engineering. Just not practical at all.

      Not really. It would have been easy enough to make an NES system of this size back in 20 - but the battery longevity would have been crap, because it would have been NiCad - it would have an NOAC (NES on a Chip). Certainly wouldn't be emulating anything. It would have cost a small fortune too.
      Small screens are a thing now, back them, people would have been frustrated by something this tiny.

    • @shrike6243
      @shrike6243 3 ปีที่แล้ว +11

      @@fuzzywzhe So what you're saying is you could have done it easily enough 20 years ago, so long as you cut 95% of the functionality, had a crap battery, and cost a ton?

    • @fuzzywzhe
      @fuzzywzhe 3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@shrike6243 Oh, NOT easily - NO. I'm saying this COULD have been done 20 years ago - but it would have to be scaled quite a bit back.
      A NES of this size (not a simulator, but a NOAC) would have been _possible_ in this form factor, but nobody would want to purchase it.
      We had LCD screens of this size, batteries were small enough, but NiCad.
      10 years ago, yeah, this would have been easy to make. Chips (like this system uses) haven't gotten significantly faster in the last 10 years (they have gotten cheaper), LCD screens were easily available in this size in 2010, and the simulators existed. Again, nobody would want to have purchased it, it would have been too expensive and too small.
      This toy is a novelty. I wouldn't want this today other than as a conversation piece and honestly, I wouldn't want it.
      I had an GP2X Wiz years ago. That was a more appropriate form factor for actual use, but they used one of the first AmoLed screens, they were fragile.

      @NiGHTSnoob 3 ปีที่แล้ว +49

      Probably impossible. Or at the very least unlikely. N64 is significantly harder to emulate than the PS1 because of its hardware design, and a lot of the games require the analog stick to function properly alongside taking advantage of all 6 face buttons and the Z trigger and R button. Even if this had the power it doesn't have the right inputs.

    • @Kalvinjj
      @Kalvinjj 3 ปีที่แล้ว +24

      @@NiGHTSnoob True, N64 is a nightmare to emulate. Heck, the Nintendo Switch can't run it properly without overclock. The inputs tho would be the most limiting factor, PS1 is already on the edge if the game needs R2 or L2.

    Also note: the unit only comes with a handful of legal, freely distributable games by default. (I think the team even went out of their way to contact the freeware game developers first before including them.) So unless you get your unit from someone else, you will need to add your own games.

    I'm so glad I got mine. Personally, I love it mostly for GB and GBC games, for which the screen's aspect ratio is well suited (and because those were always low resolution platforms, they work quite well in the miniature form factor). Yes, the battery won't last all day - but since it's a small battery, recharging it really only takes 20 minutes.
    + The sleep function works.
    + It has auto-resume, so you can quit games and reopen them later without even bothering with save-states, if you don't want to.
    - There's really only one negative, and that is that the very small controls make longer gameplay cramp your fingers a bit. I wiiiiiiiiiiiiish they'd make one actually about the size of a Gameboy Advance SP, since I really love how the device works, the bigger form factor would lead to longer battery life and a normal (i.e. Nintendo) sized control set would make this perfect. Still: I keep it charged and put it in my pocket whenever I leave the house, since you never know when you might fancy a bit of GB Tetris or Super Mario Land. :)
