Starting @27:10 is the reason why this is a 0% run. There is a room that Samus will shinespark through @27:18. The normal route through this room requires you to navigate some tubes underneath this room, and there is a missle tank that cannot be avoided this way. Holding the shinespark for that long and getting into the position to fire Samus through the tentacle has a margin of error of only 7 frames. This will probably never be done non-TAS.
In Fusion, mandatory items do not count towards the percentage, only extra ammunition and energy tanks do. Still, though, 1% is the more common run, since an extra missile tank in Sector 3 is very hard to avoid.
In addition to that, I'm not sure if it's actually the plasma beam that triggers your ability to damage the SA-X, or if you have to have the complete beam (minus ice). It would be really cool of the programmers if they actually made plasma the trigger since Adam said himself that it would allow Samus to damage the SA-X.
It would be cool if there was a way to manipulate the flag triggers to skip certain mandatory items that aren't necessary for defeating the bosses (e.g. ice missile and diffusion missile).

Well you also have to take into account time and hardware restraints. That kind of stuff is awesome, but unfortunately it'll be one of the first things to go if need be.

It's interesting that a 0% TAS and a 100% TAS of this game take roughly the same amount of time. They really make sure you stay on the rails.
Roughly the same amount of time...? A 100% TAS takes well over ten in game minutes longer than a 0%

He must have grabbed an upgrade somewhere. The percentage is based off of the tanks, not the weaponry, suits, abilities.

First time picking up the game in 5 years tonight and did a 5% in 1:35 on a gba. Nightmare was tough
as someone who completed a 1% run, I can tell you... it's HARD to resist.
I feel as if there are so many segments that could be better with TAS. Double missle and whatnot, but this was 7 years ago so it's understandable
