I plan on going about 20 feet past hitting water but its at the end of summer and we get a lot of rain here so I feel good about it already. Your video and web explanation was helpful, appreciate it.
Great simple design. Of course, the whole thing can be done by hand but it's going to be a whole lot slower. Also, I imagine you needn't stop at 40m with this, there's no reason per se not to just keep going, as long as you're not in rock - though a set-up like this could even gradually smash through limestone I guess.

Do you have something at the end of the drill pipe to hold the dirt ?
You make mud with the hammer bit, then bail it out with the bailer. You have to add water until you get into the water table.
