I spoke during a conference at the beautiful Lodge at Geneva on the Lake Resort and I emphasized that servant leadership isn't just an act, it's an introduction to real battles that people we care about and work with are going through.
I used the tale of David vs. Goliath and its well-known narrative to highlight an often overlooked and powerful message.
In the heart of this incredible underdog tale lies a lesson that resonates deeply with each of us. The story of a seemingly 'unqualified' and untrained individual prevailing against all odds unveils a profound truth - sometimes, our purpose doesn't hinge on whether something is directly our responsibility, but rather on the role we play in it.
It may not be your problem, but it is a part of your purpose!
David, though ill-equipped for battle, stepped onto the battlefield to serve his brothers. In doing so, he discovered a higher calling. Amidst the conflict, he recognized that his service introduced him to a fight he couldn't ignore, a fight that might be beyond his immediate concerns but was an integral part of his purpose.
The service he rendered opened his eyes to the reality of the struggle his loved ones were facing, and he realized that by engaging with this cause, he could make a pivotal difference. This allegory illustrates that service is our gateway to the genuine battles that shape our lives.
Just as David stumbled upon a challenge that wasn't originally his {First Name}, we too must recognize that we're often chosen to engage in struggles not by our choice, but by our calling.
