    You make this look so effortless! I just today picked up tools for the first time and tried carving a face on a corner....sigh. Thank you for the inspiration!

    Wonderful carving demo! I’ve never seen such total control with a detail knife.

    That was a great video, Don't know why but for me it made it easier to see how the nose comes out of the face and the eyes are sunken in, Also the lighting and camera angle were great, Thanks so much for sharing your talents with us.

      Thanks. Maybe the difference was I kinda took a different method. It was more of a relief carving than carving in the round.

    I learn by watching and doing. Nothing better then learning from ones own mistakes. Love your no talk style. 👍🙊🙈🙉☕️

    That is a real old piece of wood! Nice expression.

      Thanks Randolph. I’m not sure if it’s really that old. I think it may have been kept outside a couple years.

    Can I ask, do you see that face when you start ?
    Great to watch you work.
    Cheers

    I wish they wouldn't end so abruptly. Could you end them with a shot of the completed piece?

    • @KevinCoates98
      @KevinCoates98  6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Usually I put a shot of the completed piece on the front of the video. I can change it around I guess

    • @duser2326
      @duser2326 6 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I like the completed shot in the beginning as it shows us where you are headed with the carving. Maybe beginning and end if possible would help everyone.

    • @Josef_R
      @Josef_R 6 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      No, you are correct, I hadn't even realised. It would be less abrupt if it were at the end though. Thanks for answering. Keep it up, I love your style.

    Great carving. Can I ask which gauges you used on this piece? Thx

    • @KevinCoates98
      @KevinCoates98  6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thanks. I used a fishtail, straight gouge and a v tool. I don’t know the size. Maybe 1/2” , 1/4 and a small v tool

      Thx Kevin I’m going to add to my collection, I’ve got flexcut handle with changeable blades. I currently have 2 figures to paint carved from fallen lime branches 😀

      You need to give yourself little breaks to keep your hands from cramping

    You should end the video with some tap dancing and maybe a short add on of you making a post carving session snack like maybe some hot pockets or a pastrami on rye.Besides the lack of snack making footage,pretty good though.You keep it up.Snacks would be good though.Not totally necessary.But you know.Snacks and all.....And uhh...yeah.Im hungry.

    • @KevinCoates98
      @KevinCoates98  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks John. Me tap dancing 🕺. Now that would be real entertaining I’m sure. Not!!!

    Kevin was the white pine a bit hard or was you gauge in need of a bit of honing? You seemed to have to push a bit harder in my opinion than you usually have to, I think it might have been the wood rather than yourself. It might be nice to hear a bit of commentary since it is quite a long video!! I still enjoyed it though. Regards from John in England.

    • @KevinCoates98
      @KevinCoates98  6 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      Thanks John, I think it was a little of both. My gouge needs to be touched up and the wood wasn’t the best. Commentary is fine for anyone who likes to talk. It’s just not for me. Maybe I spend too much alone time carving lol.

    • @johngoodall7097
      @johngoodall7097 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Kevin Coates Thanks for the reply Kevin I did not mean for a running commentary I watch other carvers like Mike Stinnett who gives reasons and explains why he works the way he does and the equipment he uses, this is helpful to more than just me, just saying and not wishing to be pushy. Keep doing what you are doing and I'll keep watching 😊

    • @KevinCoates98
      @KevinCoates98  6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      No worries. I understand what you mean. It’s just me and the way I am. Not big on talk
