    If I throw an object vertically upwards the force on it (only gravity, neglecting air resistance) is downwards and it's displacement is upwards . So work done on it is negative, which should mean that the object has lost energy (as when work is done on a body it gains energy) but the energy (total energy that is total mechanical energy ) stays the same. How is it possible sir?

      If product made a vector quantity then we do cross product and if product made scaler quantity then we do dot product

    If body is displaced without any application of external force, doesn't that known as work done by the body/system?
    How could there be no work done?

    Sir why don't we define work as a vector quantity and call the direction of work the direction of displacement? It makes sense

    Sir Gravitational force ki direction to dono taraf hogi na.
    Towards body and toward earth.
    Isn't it force due to gravity which acts towards the earth when body is moving upward

      that is gravitational and is at right angle to diaplacement then no impact on body
      but if body is in air then work done by gravity will be positive since force and displacement are in same line and in same direction work done will be positive

    if w=force * displacement in direction of force ( this formula shows that work done when displacement of a body in the direction of fore but when we talks about -ve work their is a force and displacement in opposite direction then how can we say it is work.. according to formula i think its not work ...
