  • Around June 13th, the wet season hit in earnest. The water level rose 3 feet overnight in some places. I had to wade through the swamp to retrieve a few of my cameras. Early in this video, you can see a gravel "beach" near a water hole frequented by a pair of barred owls fishing. Later in the video, after the rain, that same spot is unrecognizable. Hint- it will be the place with the nighttime shots of the night heron and glowing gator eyes. June is the beginning of the black bear mating season in Florida. The bears are definitely on the move in search of mates. Only a glimpse or two of Florida panthers... which might explain the large number of deer in the area this time. With water all around now, the relatively dry trails should get more use by the animals. The heat, rain and mosquitoes on the other hand, will keep human activity low. In the coming months, baby panthers and bears should start to make an appearance. Fingers crossed. Enjoy!

I really enjoy your videos. Anyone who says they don't, have no idea of how much effort you go through. the snakes alone would keep them home.

Good videos. The gator eyes freak me out and I love the owl activity at the waters edge. I love seeing whats out there with my trail cams too. I used to have families of fox on my property for a number of years and they were great fun to watch on the security cams playing on the yard and the trail cam I had near the den and out in the field. Watching them grow up was great fun. Sadly this year we have coyotes that have moved into the area and the fox have moved on. We dont have the varied wildlife that you have but every once in awhile I get a surprise that makes it all worthwhile.

The barred owl at 11.22 was having a sun bath; birds do that to get their ectoparasites moving around so they can get rid of them.Beautiful videos, Mark.

Thanks. It's so much fun to see what's on these cameras after a few weeks in the field. But even more fun to share them with all of you! I should be heading out to retrieve more footage early next week. Stay tuned!

I had never heard of pig frogs. If i had been outdoors and heard that i would be indoors in a rush. Turkey and deer sure like that area. Nice video.

Thanks. It's obvious how pig frogs got their name. You almost never see them. But you can hear them, even in the daytime, while walking the trails.

Hey Mark, I totally enjoyed this video!! Lot's of great footage, and the owls were amazing! The hairball panther probably was my favorite. Wishing you the best of luck on baby panthers!!! Keep on swinging the bat, I know that you will hit one out of the park sir.

Very enjoyable. Wilderness is vital. I agree with the comments about no music. My guess is the owls do that sunning with wings spread to dry off and/or to get rid of mites or whatever ...or maybe the sun just feels good. Do these cameras take vast amounts of hard drive space? How often do you need to check them to see if full?
