That sitting on your ass and taking it slowly (turtling) is not a great idea. In earlier total wars anyway. Or that it is a great idea to think everything through and to not make hasty decisions. Shit like that.
Yeah, for example, I always used to sent infantry into the breach or straight on the walls before I found Legend's channel. Watching him, I figured out, that it's way better to shoot defenders down first.
I know this is an old comment, but in the context of ancient warfare it sort of makes sense: cavalry was designed to (mostly) run down routing enemy units and as a fear factor against enemy infantry, wich the Aechemenid Persians used to great effect during their conquests. Just imagine a bunch of horses running at you with spears, only a well trained unit would be able to resist such an attack, and well drilled units were obviously key for both Phillip's and Alexander's conquests. Of course, it doesn't excuse awful AI :p
Well for one thing screw you and two It's a proven fact. Horses naturally will not charge into a static line. The only way to make them is to apply blinders to them and even then it's not guaranteed they will commit fully.
@@randomname2159 So that's 5 more happy people as that is probably the max amount of people playing this mod What I am saying is that games should come out fleshed out & mods should enrich the game, not polish it.
The way you like your troops/cards to be displayed in the battle hud is identical to how I like to group them. Leader/cavalry, missiles, infantry. Don't know why, but that detail made me smile and I had to point it out. I totally take responsibility for the uselessness of my comment XD Good fun watching this stuff. Well done.
I've been in a pretty fucking rough place recently. Watching your campaigns has made me laugh when I didn't feel like it, soothed my anxiety, enabled me to think passively on what's been ailing me, and taught me a fuck-ton about Total War, which I've been playing on-and-off for years - usually on medium difficulty 'cause I'm a little bitch. Thanks, man.
If you want to capture the whole map you should take one victory condition settlement (like Bactria) last or the game will end when you get the victory settlements.Leave just one unconquered until you get the rest of the map.
so it's been over 10 yrs since i Alexandered, but didn't the map originally star with sparta belonging to Greece? that's why it's mentioned in the intro...
In case you fancy the actual quote "When Alexander heard Anaxarchos speaking about an infinity of universes, he wept. His friends asked what was wrong. He said, ‘Isn’t it worth weeping if there are infinite universes, and we haven’t yet become the masters of even one?’"
In the beginning you could split alexander's force up to bolster the force without the general. This allows you to have the numbers to easily defeat both barbarians.
I like all these games from the first series.(Pre Rome Two) In my view Medieval 2 plus Kingdoms is the best. You have the option of trying to please the Pope who may reward you with anything from money to a few better units and you get more voting power for the next Pope. You can use priest, bishops ect to try heretics for Hersey, your princesses can be used as Diplomats, and you can have little merchant squabbles between merchants to try to run them out of business (seize assets) and you can try to gain a monopoly on key resources on the main map. and of course you get spies and assassins. Their is so much to do between each turn it's time consuming in an awesome way. I always like trying to nurture an assassin to his full potential but alas one of my best had a 95% success rate but I got him killed while playing around. I tried to assassinate a rebel captain. He wasn't even a general. :( He had killed princesses, allied merchants and priest lol >:) I guess my main gripe with Rome Two is it felt like it was stuck in Arcade mode and the battles were to fast.
azim iskandar not exactly mate a war elephant would have most likely charged through the spear wall Alexander would have had to employ tactics that would counter an elephant charge all together most likely using fire as the primary counter weapon I own a normal length Greek phalanx spear from around those times and the spears weren't anywhere near as long as represented in this game. A phalanx countered cavalry because it was a static wall of spears which were not much taller than a man the men didn't sit there and let the cav run into the phalanx they would have had to step out a small bit and stabbed either the rider or the horse the reach given by the spear was the advantage in a real phalanx elephants would have just stampeded on through the phalanx however the use of flaming arrows and riders sent ahead with flaming torches would have scared the elephants and the Persians would have lost control of the elephants. Hence spear phalanx were the INFANTRY core of the Greek/Macedonian army but it was useless against elephants which also proceeds to suggest that Alexander utilised Cavalry over his infantry in battle because they would have been purely the better choice fighting an empire that was desert-based
The sarissa or sarisa (Greek: σάρισα) was a long spear or pike about 4-6 metres (13-20 ft) in length. It was introduced by Philip II of Macedon and was used in his Macedonian phalanxes as a replacement for the earlier dory, which was considerably shorter.
I played with the desc_strat file for this game back in 2005 and changed it such that I could play as the Illyrians. Alexander's Macedonian army attacked me on a mountainside and I managed to kill him in a rear-end charge and win the battle with just a few archers to spare.... ....and then after the loading screen it said I had lost the campaign and I had to return to the start menu.

"If we win we'd get a general because I think we would" I talk like this too. It's just like, "if you didn't know where I was going in the first half of the sentence than fuck off."
I really like this certain voice actor throughout the series, he is very dramatic and he speaks for several factions. One of them was for the Scottish and he says THESE PEOPLE NOW KNEEL TO US MY LORD!" or something like that. And if you are on opposite sides and click the Scottish he eventually says something like "All your women and lands will belong to us soon enough!"
You're a real master in this game! You made in 3 turns what I made ( worse) in 50.....The strange thing is that the settlements without a general to rule them you can handle anyway, my ones go in automatic ....

Daniel Balderrama he didn't take them all by war IRL he basically annexed the Persian empire after killing Darius III in battle but as we know that's not how Rome Total War works because there is no Annexing/capitulating mechanic
No conqueror in history had to violently take even the smallest damn village in a certain territory in order to conquer it. Neither Alexander had to nor Caesar, Hannibal, Ghenghis Khan, Napoleon etc. Conquering means, to bring a specific region under your control by marching in with an army and to garrison its most important administration centers.

Last Goals He has an EB campaign running right now, so he will not play another while it is running. Even when it is finished he probably won't play another because of how long the campaign is and the views on his current EB campaign are not very good. Maybe he would be open to just playing a specific part of the campaign like you mentioned, but it still wouldn't be for awhile.
But Alexander never conquered all of Persia by war he conquered Asia Minor and beat Darius III in battle then the rest of Persia surrendered and Alexander ruled for a time until it broke when he died into The Seleucid Empire, Egypt and Macedon, the Seleucid Empire being basically the new Persian Empire
in school we learned that the last battle was against the indians in the the border of india. The battle is called the battle of idaspi( ithink it ishydaspes in english. after that the soldiers demanded to return home and the campaign stopped. The batlle happened on 326 bc
+End my Cancerous Existence In fact, Alexander had to battle his way all the way down to Issus in Syria, then to the siege of Tyre until the Egyptians welcomed him as liberator and proclaimed him Pharaoh. But the Persians had not capitulated. Darius sent Alexander a letter promising him riches and satrapies in Asia Minor if he withdrew back to Greece. Alexander responded telling him that he will fight and chase him till the ends of the Earth and the major engagement happened at Gaugamela in Mesopotamia, but it wasn't over, since Darius fled along with his satrap and commander Bessus to Bactria. Alexander chased them and he faced little resistance east of Tigris River. Bessus however murdered the Persian King and proclaimed himself King Artaxerxes V and organised resistance in Bactria. The Macedonians had to fight yet again in the eastern provinces and had even fought the Scythians near Syr Darya River (or Jaxartes) then happened the battle of Hydaspes against Porus of India as mentioned above, so the campaign was far from peaceful after the defeat of the main Persian force. PS sorry for the giant comment, I didn't mean to lecture you neither I am a history student :)
he did in fact have to fight many sieges and skirmishes after issus and gaugamela. tyre, gaza, the perisan gates, the uxian defile, bactria, 2 years alone fighting a guerilla war in sogdiana, scythia and then india.

dude, Im, pretty sure an Alexander campaign is going to come out for rome2 :)
and i thought the campaign would be possible
I prefer the Medieval II play style rather than the Rome II play style.
No diplomats ?
