    Us shark guys in South Australia run a 50w size reel a 24kg rod 80lb braid or 100lb braid with around 100m of mono and this runs perfect for up to 10 foot taking big baits from the beach and the rod is always stand up instead of bent but

    I highly recommend a rod with at the least a roller tip, if your fishing top shot of mono, which I recommend, your going to want that tip to reduce friction of the knot going through, it'd help keep the not strong and less likely to break under pressure

    • @AdventureStreamingGuys

      great point thanks for the recommendation

      @@AdventureStreamingGuys your welcome, just going based off what Ive experiencing, under high pressure my knots seem to get caught on the tip when I'm reeling it back in, so I got a roller tip rod and tried it on the boat and worked really well so I fish at minimum a roller tip now for LBSF and for boats, I use to same rods/reels for both

    • @AdventureStreamingGuys
      @AdventureStreamingGuys  6 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I like to use the swivel roller rod tip...then you don't have binding on a big fish run or chaos at the boat. Also use that same tip on kite rods.

    Most sharks aren't gonna take a lot of line?.....Seriously!? If its a small shark like a blacktip or spinner I can see the guys point, but if you hook up to one that is 8 or 9 foot..or bigger.......your gonna need at least a 50 ib outfit just to slow him down (if your on a tight budget), but if your going after huge sharks, just go ahead and buy a 130 ib class reel or a 20/0 everol....if it spools a reel of that size, then its not ment to be caught.

    • @AdventureStreamingGuys
      @AdventureStreamingGuys  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I think it is a regional thing. WE get big thresher's, Makos, porbeagles and 200lb blues, you can fight stand up with a 50, you can not with a 130. Plus lots of guys, including myself use their shark rigs for offshore tuna, and 50's work best in the NE.

    • @quinnhunsinger1603
      @quinnhunsinger1603 5 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      You need a 130 or 20/0 from a boat?? Maybe from shore but on a boat a 50 is perfectly fine. We've caught 12+ foot hammerheads from my boat on 30w no problem. Land based is a completely different animal but if you're on a boat you can chase fish they're not spooling you. I totally agree a 50 is a good starting point and I don't see any need to go bigger. Even Giants aren't taking 1000+ yards of line off a boat.

    • @AdventureStreamingGuys
      @AdventureStreamingGuys  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      short answer is yes you could. Not sure how large or what type of species' shark you would be fishing for....I have caught many sharks on Penn 113H's....but long term if you shark fish they won't be as dependable as a reel made for big game

    • @AdventureStreamingGuys
      @AdventureStreamingGuys  ปีที่แล้ว

      @@AdventureStreamingGuys what do you think the reels limitations are? The rod is rated 30-80 I think but my concern is the reel. Do you think it’ll handle a hammerhead shark around 10-11 feet or big bulls? Not fishing from boat I’m fishing from shore

    • @AdventureStreamingGuys
      @AdventureStreamingGuys  ปีที่แล้ว

      @@aidanobuck5779 10-11 foot hammer head you are talking 350-400lbs...big fish to catch on a 50 reel and 80# rod from a beach in stand up gear....but once you go heavier especially on a beach, trying to hold an 80 or bigger in a harness gets unbearable. i don't know what you set the drag too but prob 14-16 #, so one limitation would be line capacity.
