This song was about the Watts riots in 66. The record label signed Zappa thinking he was blues rock, boy did they get played! Dweezil does his old man proud.
The drum solo reminds me of the black page#1 from the live in New York album. It took me quite some time to really appreciate that piece, but now it is one of my favorites
I believe Frank enlisted Vai as Dweezil’s guitar tutor when D was a young teen . It’s fair to say they go back a long way . To me , that connection is important . Great band , fantastic DVD . Saw him and this band in NYC and Melbourne , Aus . Fantastic shows 👏👏
Interesting that Dweezil didn't say she played sax and keyboards at the same time. Maybe she didn't at the time, but she certainly did on the two occasions I saw the band. The first time I thought I was imagining it.
I almost chose this as my initial video but there was so much Zappa on the channel I deferred. So glad Peter picked this. My favorite off this whole DVD. Can't tell you how many times I've watched this DVD. Love it!!
Yeah it is missing the edge that Frank's disgust with the conditions that sparked the riots. I'm not black but sometimes I wish I could say I'm not white. Words that meant so much to me for so many years
I love this. It's my favourite version, including Frank's. The musicianmanship is tremendous. Even Bozzo the clown just about made it, even though his solo was too long and tedious at times. That drum kit, talk about small dick syndrome! Travers, an ok drummer with a kit just a 10th the size was just as good. Says a lot!!! This, length wise, would be 6 or 7 lower patrons requests. Peter yet again kicking the arse out of the song requests. I have loads of favourites this long, even longer, but think it the height of narcissism to select such. If SAD don't think so, perhaps everyone should select half hour songs. Must be discouraging for lower tier patreons. Great song Peter. Hope this counts for many future selections
I didn't just request it Paul, I sought their permission first. I would not make this kind of request normally, but after a little research I noticed they had done very little ZPZ. I figured this epic performance, and yes Terry definitely went on too long, would make up for the dearth in Dweezil reactions. I would never make an ask this long again, but I thought this one was the exception to the rule. Glad you enjoyed it!
@@Peter-K I know prior to this they've had about half an hour of ZPZ already. Personally I just don't think it's fair on a song request. I requested the DVD on the movie selection. That or album request would be much more reasonable. I really did enjoy it but horses for courses. One consolation, I know someone who might be PAWing at his head in despair at the length of this 😜
I always loved the work that Dweez and the rest did in the Zappa plays Zappa tours. It's difficult to balance the concept of a tribute performance. How much to recreate (duplicate) what the original was like; how much for the performers to add their own input. This is a departure from what Frank would have done but that's OK. I love Terry Bozzio's work but i've never been able to follow long drum solos. I haven't seen these movies in a while, so thanks for reacting. It made my work day a little happier.
You two and another, this guy named Rory from the UK are my favorite Zappa reaction folks. You (collectively) have heard enough to appreciate his music despite his sometimes excessive indulgences. @@SightAfterDark
One of the things that strikes me in this song are the lyrics. Who'd say this is a 1964 song? they're still as current as they were back then. 🙂 NMB is still a great singer and sax player, Sheila is simply fantastic, and Vai, well... Is Vai. Of course it's different from the original. Different times, different musician, and it SHOULDN'T be a "Xerox copy" of the old version from "Roxy & Elsewhere". It's these musician's version of the song. AND they respected the original enough to make it perfectly recognisable especially in the first part. I wonder why so many people think that a tribute should be an exact copy of the original... And also why so many people are so tied to their personal taste, as if they weren't really "looking for what THERE IS", but rather they were "looking for what they THINK there SHOULD be". 🤔 Anyway... I love this DVD. Don't have so much time as to watch or listen to it often, but I do it more often than with many others. Thank you for bringing it back to light. 🙂
Great version... (but I'm sure you've been told by now... it's not Frank). I love when Vai is in a context to play and not worry about the hair and fans and the trenccoat etc. And I love Scheila Gonzales. And Joe Travers. And...
I love Terry when he played with Zappa. The videos from 1977 with Terry are great, but this type of solo doesn’t do it for me. There is nothing Zappa about it.
As much as I love Steve Vai's guitar playing and his compositional skills. I don't like it when he's "overacting" on guitar. The song misses the energy of the original live version.
It's a pity that Steve seems to feel always obliged to throw some bullshit in his playing. Come on Steve, give us a break. This is for Zappa fans and not for impressionable kids (G3 fans). We like music, not circus. You can do a lot better if you decide to. You ruined the spirit of the song and the spirit of Frank's music. It came to a point that I asked to myself: Is it still 'Trouble everyday'?
Great version
No doubt one of the best drummers ever
Incredible band!

this is a more than an incredible performance, it's nearly unbelievable!!!
One day I will come to America to watch Dweezil play , he’s awesome 👏, I sawFrank in the uk 🇬🇧….
In 65 that is Aug 11 it started, the other plus was this is done at the Paramount theater in Seattle,my fav spot n I saw Zappa there in 75
You´re great and this Zappa tribute is also great. I mean Steve Vai´s playing - wow. Greetings! /Ulf
Zappa music is like a movie for your ears.

That was absolutely Amazing, well worth 1/2 hour Video...!

I should have said that when I saw them it was with his regular drummer and no SV , of course 👍
Sheila Gonzales! What a talent!!!!

Phenomenal band!
I witnessed this tour, it was incredible.
This was from the first Zappa Plays Zappa your, with the special guests, Steve Vai, Napoleon Murphy Brock and Terry Bozio.
While I prefer the original vocals, this was a very nice take on it. The guitar duo had me smiling from ear to ear. Thanks for having this!
Glad you enjoyed it!

This was the best ZPZ line-up! Saw this same performance 2nd row in Canton, Ohio.
When Dweezil was still allowed to perform his Dad's music

Make my day :) ....one of the best concerts with Dweezil and legends.....thanks for the nice reaction!

we must remember FZ started out on the drums...

That's a song about the Watts Riots ,which I still lived in LA when that happened
Wow! That must’ve been a bit frightening.
@@SightAfterDark 8t was ,then 2 weeks after Watts some nut threw a molotov up under our car ,set the place on fire
They were both freeze framed during the drum solo
Steve Vai was a student of Frank's!!
🔥🔥🔥

The version on 'The Best Band You Never Heard Of In Your Life' is a superior version.
This is wonderful. Not nearly long enough. Please note the song name is "*MORE* trouble coming everyday" not "some trouble coming every day"!
Actually the correct title is _"More Trouble Every Day"_ No "coming" involved, heh.
"How did you feel about the Concert?"
Reply," It was too long."
Said no one
I wasn't there!
Who is this guitar player? Wow
I love Terry when he played with Zappa. The videos from 1977 with Terry are great, but this type of solo doesn’t do it for me. There is nothing Zappa about it.
totally agree, too many pots and pans to choose from. It's void of energy
As much as I love Steve Vai's guitar playing and his compositional skills. I don't like it when he's "overacting" on guitar. The song misses the energy of the original live version.
Time for some Too $hort reactions! lol I've noticed you guys don't really do rap reactions. Why is that?
We would love to! Our patrons choose what we react to, and it seems rap doesn’t come up often

absolutely right
