      Phenomenal review. Thank you so much for taking the time to do this. Quick question if I may. The markings on the dial in this video appear to be yellow, but I've seen many photos online of this watch and they are more close to a cream colour. Can you please confirm which shade they are exactly?

    This is the first luxury watch I ever wanted two or so years back. I bought the 65 model without the numerals, which is also sharp but not as fun as this one is. I'm a bit disappointed they discontinued it too, its bold and unique within their lineup.

    Enjoy it in good health. It’s a beautiful piece.
    I love the oversized crown and the shape of the sapphire crystal.
    Nothing polarizing to me.
    It’s a classic beauty.

      I've found that I get a lot of enjoyment out of watch designs that have "character". Just simple things like the gloss dial, domed crystal, indices. It's such fun. AND feels like it transports you back to the 60's. Also reckon this design is quite inspiring when we look at products today (we might see a resurgence) ;) Thank you for the comment Bruce!

    I own this watch for like 6 or 7 years now. Its a good bargin for the money. The watch delivers a true vintage watch experience to the owner for a fraaction of the price of more expensive brands.

      Trust me, you're not the only one Hervé. I'm very tired of the seriousness that has to go into watches most of the time. Buying brands, prestige... Case in point, I'm borrowing a 214270 and the Oris is getting more wear time ;)

    Yes, this watch has classic looks and is batting very much higher in the order than it might first appear? BUT that lumed surround on the 3, 6, 9, 12 is just so wonderful to look at. It reminds me of old/wind up alarm clocks when I was a kid?

  • @jb6027
    @jb6027 4 ปีที่แล้ว +8

    I absolutely love the old-school design feature of placing the 12, 3, 6 and 9 numerals inside the lume markers. I bought my Newmark 71 (with the new X-1 lume, no less) to the same reason. I think it's nicer than the Seamaster.
    Your Oris is simply stunning!!

    • @ID-Guy
      @ID-Guy  4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I really do love the quirks of it so much. And comparing it to the Seamaster, I feel like their designs are in different categories (but I can appreciate the same) One is very rigid in comparison (much more dressy) The other feels like a tool watch of its time. Something tells me that neither will ever leave the collection no matter how big it gets. Every time I look at the 65, I grin. The word FUN is there is spades ;) Thanks for the comment JB!

    The numeral editions were the only ones I liked in the diver 65 series. While it's sad to see that it has not been appreciated enough... I am glad they are discontinuing it as I have got mine (blue black dial) and don't necessarily want many having the same making it more unique... Its a excellent piece with a personality. Nothing fancy from a movement standpoint (basic Sw200) but a absolute stunner from an aesthetics standpoint (atleats for me).

    Congratulations on purchasing the Divers 65, IDGuy. It really is a sensational piece, and in many ways, the light duty diver watch that best serves most people today. Built strongly enough to survive casual use, but not overbuilt so as to feel cumbersome. Plus it goes well on a leather strap, and it isn’t redundant when placed next to your Seamaster. Oh, and did I mention how I absolutely love the date window placement?

    Always had a soft spot for Oris. Independent, interesting history and only produces mechanical watches. I like the fact that they reproduced their own original design in this watch, too bad they went the safe route with the new Sixty-five. Wear it in good health!

      The "Safe Route", couldn't say it better. Generic, bland. Sadly that's what will sell in mass. But hey, maybe this video will help show that there's coolness to the quirks. Fantastic to hear your feelings on the watch AND the Smiths news! Blown away by how dynamic this 65 is... It's one of those "what have I been missing?" moments, you know? Down to the crown... you're so right. Have a Rolex on loan and the crown threading is nothing to write home about... Enjoy the Smiths! I reached out to Eddie after seeing these new models and hopefully when the new batch arrives I'll be able to do a comparison between it and my OG. Something about the 36mm size never gets old. Enjoy!

    • @welster716
      @welster716 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@ID-Guy Totally agree on the 36mm sizing, they just wear more elegantly. Yes I've got skinny wrists, but now have a new rule, no more new watches above 38mm, preferably smaller. I was thinking about flipping mine because I didn't get around to wearing it that much. So, I started wearing it again, and, now, I can't stop wearing it! It looks great on an olive green tropic strap, but, for some reason, I put mine back on its bracelet, even though the watch is, IMHO, more of a "fun" design rather than formal or toolish. The steel bracelet is very well executed, however, and gives it the air of a serious diver.

    Nice video. In July I bought this exact 65 with the blue outer ring. It's such a stunner in the solar rays. This specific version wasn't in stock anymore, so the Oris AD in Amsterdam begged the Holstein factories to make one. Great service. For me, Oris is on par with brands like Omega in terms of build quality, especially for the money. The only thing lacking is their product placement (with the Special Editions hype and the countless ridiculous models next to the greatest hits) and some decent in house-movement in their greatest hits models (40mm and lower). That could shift them from the so-called 'entry level luxury' regions to higher levels. But I think they're well placed in the market for now.

Like you, I like the black dial but wish the WR was more than 100 meters. About three weeks ago, I had to make a decision between the Oris and a Damasko. I went with the Damasko DSUB2. Should receive it tomorrow.

      I promise, as someone who's dived, dove, duved, diven in the past, 25 - 35 meters is already freaky as all hell ;) But I understand what you mean, we all gravitate to the "security" of a standard 300m depth rating. The lil Oris is a ton of fun just to experience one day. And thank you as always for the comment, brother!

    I also purchased mine in 2017 new for $1100 with the tropic. At the time getting the oem tropic was more difficult. I picked up my bracelet shortly after through Ace Jewelers in the UK. Not sure if they still sell them but for about $300 it was well worth it. I actually now prefer the bracelet, the style wears as comfortably as an Oyster bracelet IMHO.

      Great call and it's so nice to hear that an owner still has the piece after the "hype" around the release died down. Since this video I've found a really snazzy deployant, aftermarket very much like the Patek 5712R or Blancpain deployants from back and the day and it works like a treat with the tropic (definitely gives it an upmarket feel and will keep the rubber alive for longer) - But I'll definitely look into finding a bracelet for the piece in the future and thank you for this! Loved your BB58 photo's - One might be making the cover this week ;)

      Great question about Chrono's Steve. I've had an interesting few days and something dawned on me. I've been loaning an Explorer 214270 (and if I'm being honest, the experience has been quite underwhelming so far) - After thinking about how much the explorer history appeals to me and all of those details, the watch hasn't really lived up to the hype at all sadly... BUT there's one watch in Rolex's camp that I always return back to AND it's a chronograph ;) So, for the next three to five years I'll be saving. Maybe I'll be able to bag the watch by the time I hit 30. The prospect of saving for a grail is VERY exciting! Thank you for the comment Steve!

    IDGuy strikes again. This is a bit quirky in its design. We all need a "different" watch that, for the most part, those who are traditionalists would avoid. But secretly we all have one watch that is off the beaten path we jut love for some reason. The Omega Seamaster 300-1957 was right in your design sweet spot and the history and the vintage look etc. made it a perfect shoice for you. This one is quirky. My quirky watch is the Hamilton Jazzmaster Regulator with the Cinema Black Dial. It is quirky in two ways. First it's a regulator. Second, the dials are fashioned to look like cinema reels. It also has a bit of celluloid to frame the text.
    So, how about doing a Saturday on quirky watches? It could be really fun. We could submit actual or desired quirky watches.

    • @ID-Guy
      @ID-Guy  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Totally Karl. It's a watch that I shouldn't like looking at the strange dial etc. but it's been such FUN. Starting to find that a lot of my enjoyment comes from a watches "character". Also feels like the Seamaster manages to reach that sweet spot. Very well said! AND the theme idea around Saturday's show: Ask for submission on "Watch Regrets" and the submissions have been quite minimal hahaha! Anyway, I hope you're well and thank you for the comment!
