Chitwan National Park was created in 1973. Formerly, the park was a royal hunting reserve. The word "Chitwan" means "Heart of the Jungle". Inscribed on the UNESCO list.

Formerly, Chitwan was a malaria zone. The only inhabitants were Tharu's people, who were resistant to this disease. In the 1950s, malaria had been eradicated using DDT. Then thousands of people settled there. As a result, there was a huge increase in poaching. To prevent the extinction of rhinos, Chitwan National Park was created.
Chitwan National Park has long been regarded as Nepal's third biggest attraction after trekking and the Kathmandu Valley. This huge and beautiful nature reserve protects 932 sq km of sal forest, water marshes and rippling grassland. The park is one of the last refuges of the endangered one-horned rhino and there are sizeable populations of tigers, leopards and rare Gangetic dolphins.

I was in Chitwan for 3 days. Best 3 days of my life I saw crocks, sloth bears, rhinos, snakes, monkeys, elephants and a snow leopard. I was very lucky.
Snow leopard???? I think it was just the regular sub-tropical Leopard. Snow leopards are only up in the mountains.

These days elephants ve been replaced by Safari jeeps, more people are using jeeps and elephants ve been rested, but still you can ride an elephant if u r interested but we urge tourists not to take an elephant ride anywhere.
