Whatever one does for their his happiness is purely selfishness. A politician doing corruption is ultra-selfish. When you seek liberation (spirituality), that is also out of selfishness. When you do charity or help others that is also selfishness act (mostly, but not completely as some sacrifice is involved). Whatever mother or father does for children is also selfishness. Then what is a selfless act ?? Is there any at all ? 🤔
Selfishness should be defined first before talking about anything. That has been addressed in the episode. However, we use selfishness in other context as well. We are inter-dependent people especially when we are not rich. In the context, we use selfishness where we take others help easily but when same person need our help in need, we turn a blind eye. we call such person as selfish (vadu ketu kodudu etc 😀). Of course, there are no expectations in relationship unless agreements are made upfront. The selfishness Ayn rand uses is not in this context of relationships.
