Watching somebody so terrified, that they lose their mind and start laughing hysterically, as theyre eventually devoured by a mob of zombies, is easily one of the most disturbing things ive ever seen in a film.

For me, Dawn of the Dead is Romero's magnum opus, not as serious in tone as Day of the Dead / Night of the Living Dead, but had the perfect mix of serious moments and whacky humour which the remake in 2004 also captured, with the Ambulance, Sniping "Celebrity" Zombies, and CJ's many quips throughout the film, it was a very faithful remake.

Day of the Dead is still my all time favorite zombie movie. Its a masterpiece in my opinion. The Night of the living dead 1990 remake runs a close second.

Definitely. I think its gradually started gaining a decent sized hardcore fanbase now though. I noticed that Dawn of the Dead 2004 is also starting to gain a decent sized fanbase following now too.
I know many fans of the original Dawn of the dead are extremely loyal to the original movie, but i honestly think its worth giving the 2004 version a space on the shelf amongst your blu ray collection if you love zombie movies. I've always really liked the Dawn remake. Day of the dead will always be my favorite though. It was the first blu ray i ever bought. It was the Arrow version with the clear window box sleeve, and the Bub comicbook. Think the comicbook was titled, Desertion.

Yeah the 04 film is great. Love the original Night of the Living dead and the remake is absolutely awesome.
Im probably in a tiny minority with this, but im also a fan of Night of the living dead 3D and Night of the living dead reanimation. I just like the atmosphere of both films and think theyre pretty damned cool for low budget movies. I know most people hate them but theres just something about them that i find enjoyable.
Jeffrey Combs and Andrew Divoff were great together in NOTLD reanimation. Combs was really funny.
I totally agree about the zombies looking really good in the 1990 Night of the living dead movie.
I really liked the zombies in The Walking Dead, season 8. Some really nasty looking ones in that. Some real ugly, crusty looking mothers in that he scene when Negan and Gabriel escaped from the trailer they were both trapped in. The toxic river zombies looked nasty as hell too.
We cant forgot Tarman from the return of the living dead 1 and 2 either. Awesome looking zombie. Some pretty messed up looking zombies in ROTLD 3 as well.

OMG I thought I was the only one that felt that way because Day of the Dead and the 1990 Night of the living dead remake are my top 2 favorites in the entire series too! Alot of great childhood memories tied to both of those movies. I remember going to stay at my grandparents house on weekends and getting to go rent movies from Blockbuster video and I would always rent those two movies. I can remember being so upset if they were already rented out, like I felt like the whole weekend was ruined when that happened LOL.

Night of The Living Dead is great but it's my least favourite of the trilogy and that's because I think it's lost the most with age.
As you say, you could cut the tension with a knife but a lot of its time is spent introducing how zombies work to us. While these are still tense scenes they don't have as much effect on me as they would have done on audiences in 1968.
Whereas Dawn of The Dead and Day of The Dead play with more unique ideas that haven't been done in the same way since. In Dawn we spend so much time with the survivors in the mall, we even get to see them have fun and become quite comfortable despite their surroundings. And then Day shows scientists actually research the zombies and try and come up with solutions to the apocalypse, which is disappointingly rare, I'd love to see more stories cover the post-post-apocalypse

R.I.P

  • @daleridgway2461

Given the era in which these films came out in, where many horror films were arguably just cash grabs and empty plots that are just wasting time to reach violence, it speaks volumes that George a Romero was able to craft these 3 films. He could’ve easily thrown a bunch of characters together and focused so much on gore and shock of these zombies and called it a day. What’s fascinating to me is that what makes these films scary is the idea of societal collapse in face of a disaster. We face them so often and as a whole we turn and eat eachother at the first chance. It makes me anxious to wonder how I’d fare because so much of your survival would be dependent on who you’re in this mess with, and what’s going through their heads.

George a Romero said himself in an interview which is on TH-cam that the casting of Duane Jones was that he was the best actor in that anything racial was accidental
most people know that the original concept of Ben would be that he was supposed to be a white male truck driver who was hot tempered
Duane Jones changed most of the script for Ben

Brilliant analysis on George A. Romero's classic Zombie trilogy! :D Excluding Robert Kirkman's "The Walking Dead" Comic series, the question on Man's morality and whether or not they're worthy of getting back that which they lost, despite them being the cause of the Post-Zombie Apocalypse, has remained very endearing and ever so fascinating. ^.^

Romero's "Living Dead" film series is practically an analysis on what's going on with the coronavirus. The coronavirus is like the living dead consuming all and exposing everything that's wrong within humanity. The survivors in these films are like people nowadays--turning against each other at the worst possible time over the most petty of things. The films are also criticizing and exposing all of the darkest truths about what America is. Romero was trying to say that rather than trying to preserve American society as it is; it may have been better to completely leave and destroy it and try to rebuild American society from the very beginning and preserve it that way.

One very tiny thing I would change if I would’ve made these films myself, what if bub was Peter from Dawn, giving his character a second story arch as a zombie, how fucking dark, tragic, and freaking cool would that have been, don’t get me wrong, the trilogy is a masterpiece and there perfect the way they are, but that concept just crossed my mind I thought I’d share

Bub is one of my favorite zombies. I affectionately call him "a cute little badass" because when Frankenstein is trying to teach him how to be like a human, he's just downright adorable in his childlike wonder.
However, I have one huge nitpick of Day. It's that we can't have straight up bunkers in Florida, the sea level just won't allow it. And with Fort Myers having a beach, the whole idea of bunkers is pretty unrealistic.

And how we get to Day, it's either from the antagonist in Day when the actor showed up in Dawn, or the lead in Day is the daughter of the woman in Dawn.

I tghink you might be digging too deep into the meaning of Night Of The Living Dead

    • @vaughnmild4467

I see Night as a film that was kinda an accident that just happened to come out at the right time (even if it didn't pick up steam from the jump). Add in the slick commercial director (Romero) at the helm, whom along with John Russo ripped off Matheson's I am Legend. Added some twists and turns to an already interesting story. Used what little friends, time, equipment, and other resources at their disposal. Put it all together and it came out brilliant. I call bullshit on the whole casting Jones cause he was black and it would make the film "edgy" too. Especially anything to do w/Dr. Kings assassination. Romero has said he was driving the film to NY when he heard the news over the radio. I, like many of you are borderline "obsessed" with this man's films and have read everything I can possibly get my hands on, as well as kept up to date with all interviews and supplemental material on EVERYTHING that's been put out over the years. This was an extremely low budget film, but the stars aligned for that talented filmmaker and his bust ass cast and crew. RIP George A Romero.

Would it be easier if you just cover on the actual timeline not just about the 3 films I would like for you to do that in order for you to meet us a timeline I would like to recommend it that you told her as it is and not saying were they fit by the release here don’t necessarily have to go in the release year this is the events of how they have went if you go to Josh Spiegel and his channel known as this “movie timelines”
I do recommend it and here’s the list that you can go off of and I’m gonna make one of my own starting with the movie known as the dead walkers
    The dead walkers
    Night of the living dead
    Diary of the dead
    Dawn of the dead
    Day of the dead
Night of the living dead 1990
    Land of the dead
    Road of the dead
    Survival of the dead
    Twilight of the dead
    War of the living dead
This Hass to be the timeline I would like for you to make this Taiwan and you can mention my movie oh it does not exist yet I have two of them know I am going to suggest to Tom Savini it was only gonna be t3 films that I am going to suggest for him to do as for the dead walkers this one is going to take place at the very beginning where the dead walkers also known as zombies would it be starting to come above ground
And also the morgues and hospitals and the unburied dead is coming back to life and seeking human victims it will be established in the way I will tell it night of the living dead the movie is actually based on real events is based on a true story if you want to know the name of the website check this name out
The real night of the living dead
There will be a column talking about there was a hospital that the dead dude tried to move around just so you know this tells you that the film stay about to make a timeline regarding of the films and where they fit I’d like to request it and I recommend it give me a shout out
You can know me as ghetto

  • @patrickmartin8854

The word zombie is only used twice in George's theatrical releases. Once in Dawn and once in Land. Yet almost every retrospective uses the term. I'll quote Rhodes "They're dead! They're fucking dead!"
I know it's a nitpick but it's fucking distracting to hear George's dead referred to as zombies

@@Pseudobadger survival was the most comical in the series and was entertaining every minute , the characters were fun and there was a few brilliant things in it, i'd give it a low 8 i use to hate survival but know since i really watched it with a open mind , watch a review done by some duesdaecon or something guy he opened my eyes to it , diary was also fun and its decent but has a few flaws that, None of georges films fall flat all are entertaining, my favorite non dead is monkey shines
