Got this game a week ago and I love it. I don't like how Master Rule 4 is in effect in the first 5 generations in the story mode though. It's better than Duel Links because it's not designed to drive you towards microtransactions or locking you out with paywalls and it's actually the full card game instead of a limited variation of it. Ok the subject of master rule 4, being an older Yu-Gi-Oh player having to learn all this, it feels like it hurts fusion a bit, so I struggled with Jaden's fusion decks because I could only get out one fusion on field which hurt a bit when the opponent is killing me quickly

@Fearless nope, it was anounced for pc xbox and ps4 with an free update for switch with all new cards and the newoficial rulings that start in april. Meaning the MR 4 restriction is no more for fusion, Xyz and Synchro. If you enjoy yugioh you might enjoy it, though I don't know if it will be cross-platform or not.
This game has more cards available than any other previously released Yu-Gi-Oh! game, on the other hand, it's the only release in which you can perform Link Summoning (Vrains is one of the best sequels in my opinion) Well, I guess this is the main reason why I bought the game months ago, no regrets at all.
100% agreed, Vrains is awesome. Some characters are a bit weird and ambiguous ( the Ignis for example, I think they hide a very deep symbolism, but they should have worked a bit more on them )
The other Summoning Conditions slowly powercrept the previous ones but didn't intrude upon them. Link Summon makes some of my old decks moot without struggling to work it in with like LANphorlinkus or whatever. It's a format change that doesn't work with the majority of this game. VRAINS barely got any representation here even. 3 Duels woot.
I already clear DM, GX, and 5D with the story decks, yes it's more difficult, but more challenging this way, still after 200 cards 4 Yuya pick, no Magician Nagatian :(
I have been using an old school water deck back from 2004 to get past DM and GX. I am ignorant to Yugioh past 2008 and all these synchro, xyz and link stuff is hard for me to get used to. Game is really hard for a noob.
I’m glad you have to grind for cards and it isn’t some pay to win nonsense. They should bring back the password system though, that was a real game changer for folks that had physical cards. I might have to get this...
I mean, if some of you guys are a bit tired of the TCG for any X reason, you might want to try this one, you get... almost every single card in the game (there are a lot, more than 9000)
World championship 08 was so good on ds. Then 09 it was i think, when they had me duel on a motorcycle, it was too wtf for me, along with the gemini cards
That stuff is tame compared to the craziness they have now. ‘Turbo duels’, that was the duels on motorcycles. Speed dueling was pretty fun, kinda wish it carried over to real life. When they started this pendulum and link summoning stuff, I jumped ship. Waaayyy too much going on there.
SinnerDizzle yes! This, the card game used to be easy to play and adjust to but with all these new mechanics after 08 has been daunting on me to learn how to build decks and so on.
For local play or dueling with friends online, I'd love the ability to make your own banlists from scratch. I think that would be incredibly fun or add a unique challenge to the game.
It took over 2 years for them to add new cards to the game on PC/Xbone/PS4. So it's possible, but I wouldn't hold your breath on it being anytime soon. Assuming they update it at all.
@@averagejoe9229 exactly. Like how are you supposed to recreate moments with different rules. It isnt even possible to summon shooting star the right way
@@jasonandrews1770 Well the original PC/PS4/XBONE versions of this game while having less content (but half the price too) do use master rule 3 so that's pretty much the only option for wanting to experience those battles with those rules.
@@ItsBradazHD Alright so is it safe to assume that the single player content plays better on the other versions of the game then even if the switch version does have more battles and cards overall?
Does anyone know if Red-Eyes Dark Dragoon isn't not available in Legacy of the Duelist for Nintendo Switch? I also can't find Eternal Chaos nor Chaos Valkyria.
I'd also appreciate a really cheap DLC adding in the ability to toggle between Master Rule 3 and 4 if you really want to. Do that and there'd be zero reason to own the original whatsoever.
>the nee ruleset has kill the game for me Yugioh in general or this game? Because you do have several games that have old rule sets and you can get friends to play old rules.
Seriously how hard can be to put an option for change the Mr in the story mode and draft mode? It's really stupid that you can't enjoy those modes because you're constricted in the MR4, really meh choice. Same for the Vrains treatment like Arc V for old Legacy. Overall I'm disappointed, hope that they will do a better work in the future, either in this game or something completely new.
Thankyou I really enjoy GX and play DL, but it sucks that you get like 5 (now 6) extra cards. I was looking for a official Yu-Gi-Oh! Game that plays regular so I can have more space and was close to getting this game but that Mr4 (which I had look up)really messes with me man I’ll just pick up the old game for ps4 or wait till a better game comes out someday xD
They have tutorials in the first episode of each series in the game to refresh your memory or teach you the new mechanics of those summons for each series
When you said their is a new mechanic with fusion monsters and what not I was like awww shit here we go again about bust my brain open to try and relearn the game again. I got this game and literally learned everything passed GX so I didn’t know how to do synchro summons all the way to pendulum summoning. Guess I’m learning how to do this one.
it's pretty much the simplest summoning mechanic after XYZ, imo at least, the only bits that are even a little less simple are : when a card says co-linked it means 2 link monsters with arrows pointing towards each other, & : every monster = 1 material for adding them up to make a Link monster, like 3 monsters into a link 3, a link monster can either = 1 material or as many material as it's link rating, so a link 3 can count as 3 monsters to add 1 to to make a link 4, or 1 monster with 3 others, or 1 monster with a link 2 counting as 2 & another monster completing the requirements.
Is this good for a brand new player of Yu-Gi-Oh in general? I’ve always wanted to get into it and having a game non pay to play mobile would be great but I don’t want to get it if I’ll just be completely lost
100% yes. Story mode will ease you in very nicely into each summoning mechanic, and there's also a pretty deep tutorial section to teach you other game mechanics. For beginner players, looking to learn the full TCG this is great (otherwise Duel Links is pretty good but that's a diff format to normal YGO)
it's pretty much made with the brand new player very much in mind, so it should be about perfect on that front , though it's mobile in terms of you can carry it around on the switch, it's a switch exclusive game
I’m here listening wondering if I should buy it, but I haven’t played the game in probably 18 years. I played the TCG in grade school and then stopped. But I loved the GBA game! I think I’m going to get it! I’d like comment on your review: it was very good! It’s extremely deep and goes deep into the mechanics. It’s very interesting to hear them from a complete newbie who hasn’t played in so long! Glad I found this
What i would like to have included in duelist legacy is voice acting and the animations from duel links and add more cards that were released this year
How's the A.I. in Link Evolution? Because I've seen my fair share of brain dead misplays in YGO games especially in newer games due to more complex mechanics (can't say about OG LoD since I've never played it.
wiserr there’s a very nice tutorial in this game that explains the mechanics really well honestly, you can work your way up and learn at your pace. You can start from simple concepts such as normal summoning to the newest element Link Summoning.
Dashaan is right. played yugioh since I was young but I do feel the tutorial are very helpful for newcomers. I also recommend Duel Links for smartphones as that’s a very good condensed gameplay.( but don’t get used to “Skills” if you play duel links because that isn’t really an official mechanic of the core game)
I like the game but I prefer duel links in alot of ways, I prefer the deck builder in duel links, the music is so much better in duel links, small things like hearing character voice lines too, I also prefer the system of getting cards from boxes in duel links, but lotd gives me the full yugioh experience of last November which is cool, I love the draft mode on it, it has Yuzu, I mean Zuzu as it just uses the dubbed name. Its good game that I like but Konami could have put just that extra work in and it would be so good, like giving us the entirety of season one of vrains as a story mode
we likely never would have gotten all of season one, because the dub was so far behind, but could have been at least double what we got, hopefully in a update at some point, to play playmaker vs revolver
That's one of the upsides for me, just one monatary payment, and it is easy to just farm DP and open packs, I do prefer Duel Links boxes though as your guaranteed all the cards within the box, whereas with the system they have on legacy of the duelist I'm still trying to get one card for my get that I need one copy of, but it's much easier to go through packs and you don't have to pay real money and I like that
@@AstraRandom turns out there is a rarity system that makes it less likely to get certain cards until near the end of the pack. I got 306/319 unique cards from bastion and still didn't get book of life lol. Had to farm bonz and camela
I was pretty much dead set on getting this game. I'm glad I looked up a review before tho. Knowing that Link monsters are required for every campaign ruined this for me, no chance I'll pick this up now.
Played it already around 90 hrs in the Japanese Version and finished the Story+Reverse Duels and the Challenge Mode. Well it is okay.....but we nead more Content. Already 4 Months out in Japan and dont even got a DLC Pack....i hope we still got DLC packs cause there are some lacks of Cards.
Definitely agree. I'm 170 hours in (still haven't got all the cards cuz RNG luck). I hope they see the criticism online of wanting even just a few more sets, especially when the game feels like it's positioned in between two very different metagames with one that's incredibly unhealthy
@@ItsBradazHD Same for me. Know your feeling for bad RNG. Already spens more then 400k coins on Kaiba Booster and still need 1 Card from that greedy stupid Mother*** 😭. But thanks to your Site (awesome work btw Bro 👍) i got my Staples for most of my Decks so i'm ready for MP. Its a Shame that Konami wont develop a real Simulator like the inofficial ones. I would definitly Spend 20-30€ for a new Booster Series as long i got Acess to all of the cards in it. I love to play YGO but its so freakin expensive to have a good Meta Deck. Remember the Time Kozmo was top tier? The Whole Deck was nearly 800-1000€ that is absolute crazy.
ItsBradazHD the xbox version had a lot of dlc missions at release which we already have, along with the actual dlc they released but that wasn’t until a year after release. Wouldn’t expect anything more anytime soon. I spent so much time on the original tho.
Yeah, this is why I dislike a lot of these games (Even the Tag Force series....Sadly) but since I haven't cared about Yugioh since the start of Master Rule 4....Fuck it, I'll play this.
Posted this on Nintendo’s Channel: Music in the trailer is better than most of the music in the game. A decent yugioh game that supports the the current format and cards but I feel way more effort was put into the Tag Force series with voice acting, music and gameplay. Once again Link Evolution is not a bad yugioh game but it confuses me how Link Evolution(and legacy of the duelist) is a whole gigabyte larger than the tagforce games yet contains less content I’d expect from having twice the file size of the Tag Force games. Edit: I also hate how the computer can use banned cards but you can’t. Even in challenge mode.
I agree. The computer using banned cards is complete bullshit. I'm totally fine with it during the story duels because it's attempting to recreate the duels from that time period, but challenges? no excuse for that. the tag force games are way ahead of these games in my opinion. i downloaded a patched version of tag force arc-v special and wow... the amount of stuff in that game is awesome. that is essentially what link evolution should have been but with updated rules and cards. no one would complain about that. in fact, everyone would be thrilled.
Walter Weathersby By banned cards i mean if you are going through story mode with your USER constructed deck not the one they use for the STORY deck scenario. But yea using the story deck allows you to use the banned cards but I prefer to use my own deck through story mode.
Hey dude!! Have you ever thought about doing like deck showcase before? Like in one video play blue eyes and the next cyberse? I would love to see the ideas ypu have
Yes! I was specifically waiting on global release incase they changed up the card pool at all but I defo plan on doing them. This week's a lil hectic with Duel Links news, but I hope to have some Link Evolution stuff very soon :) The love u guys have all shown on the content for this game is insane
I didn’t play the original release, played it on switch liked it, completed it and moved on to master duel…..having said that I will return to this game for a casual format against npc and my brother in law is getting into yugioh. Master duel is too much so I recommend this game and he’s getting into it and understanding it. This is great for casual or people trying to learn the game
Awesome video dude loved it, picked this up myself and was loving it for that on the go mobile Yu-Gi-Oh itch, but, since learning of the new rule set and all this link bs tbh it's killed it for me. I think them forcing this new rule set on us and thus crippling so many of the storyline decks is honestly ridiculous. There should be an option of which ruleset you wish to use, I myself played he game for about 10 hours straight the first day trying to build an Archfiend Resonator deck and after learning the deck is basically trash now with this new ruleset, I honestly don't want to play anymore. Which is a shame because I loved the original on console
@@vredxiii92 I assume you meant to say xyz summoning. If that's the case yes you are correct. Unless xyz summon using that monster too. The Galaxy and Utopia decks are known to do that.
Yeah, the banlist is a few months old to go with the avail card pool, so it was banned back then. Hopefully Konami hears players want for more updated cardpool and list
Okay so I'm past the GX series right now and I'm not that familiar with anything past that point. I have used Synchros before, but it's been a long while. Is there a guide for deck building around those kind of mechanics for when i get to the story parts? I don't understand Yusei's deck at all so far lmao edit: i'm at Arc-V now, why is Yuya's deck so incredibly bad? i dont understand it
questrequested I don’t know much about a guide but... yuseis whole deck is just meant to bring stardust out. His story deck in the beginning is definitely one of the harder ones to play with
Was thinking about picking it up but it doesn't have the cards that I want in it. I also have no interest in links/pendulums but if they nerfed xys, fusions, and synchros (my favorite summons) by only allowing 1 at a time, then that's a hard pass.
Another great video I got this game yesterday and I love it.The summoning animations are better but duel links is still a bit better. All the dlc because in the first game I only buyed one. This is also my first experience with link monsters. And I totally agree with your point that you can only summon one extra deck monsters without link monsters. But still awesome game.
I only watched up to 5Ds and played all the old games up until the last 5Ds world championship titles, so am not familiar with all the post 5Ds stuff, so the regular LOTD might be better for me
This review focused on what’s new compared to the Xbox version. As someone who’s never played any Yu-Gi-Oh game ever but is interested in trying, this literally told me nothing about how this game actually plays.
The game is terrible. All it is is a re-release of Legacy of The Duelist (PS4/PC/XB1) and what that game should've been. I love Yu-Gi-Oh! as much as the rest of you - but we need to realise that Konami is screwing us over with these half arsed game.
almost done with 5D's section, still only has crashed once for me, i did notice that the gameplay was getting choppy at times however, and i resetted the game after my duel at that point was over and it was fine after that... i think that may be an indication
My favorite Yu-Gi-Oh game was Eternal Duelist Soul and this game has been luring me in to purchase it. I've played on ygo Pro so I'm semi savi on the new extra deck rules. I'm also not too sure on the purchase just because "Ojama Emperor" isn't in, making one of my favorite choices not as strong without the help of the Ojama Link. Hell he probably isn't all that and I'm better off combing through for a better link Monster untill the eventual dlc shows up. Really the one thing I'm leaning on this game for is the story mode and challenge/draft modes and hoping the characters provide some challenge for characters (assuming characters can have a hard mode unlocked for them)
I think the game is good for what it is and i'll get it later this month. Honestly playing Duel Links sometimes feels like a chore more than anything else. You need to log in EVERYDAY for gems, possible new cards and what not. Eventually, it becomes tiring and you feel like it's consuming your life. Link Evolution is perfect for me
I would say yes, I got this game as a Christmas present and I've been loving it so far. It's making me consider getting back into the game in real life
I like yu gi oh but unfortunately I only enjoy up to the synchro gen (that’s why I prefer duel links) I actually never played with this new system (with the blue cards) But from what I’ve seen... I don’t like it :/
In all honesty I was the same, but I've been trying out the link monsters and new rule set. It's actually not that complex. And link monsters are actually pretty cool plus they help balance crazy speed summon decks. Give them a shot might change your mind.
Andy But is it worth for 40 bucks? I don’t mind if it’s too complex or something... But I’ve seen some championships and it seems a turn can take for ages... that’s what kind of bothers me
@@144phd8 I think it's worth the 40 bucks plus if you leave the promo cards in the seal you can probably sell them for like 20-25. Yeah some turns can go on for a few minutes, but it hasn't gotten to the point of bothering me yet.
so after collecting all the cards and spending hours of playing in the first game on ps4, now they released another game same as the old one but links added and now we have to buy it again? at least let us upgrade or give us discound on the new one! anyway when has konami ever been fair! they always release games and leave them there to rot... -_-
Yup! You just don't have any of the newest support from the Structure Deck, or anything Savage Strike and onwards so no Rokket Synchron, Borreload Savage etc
ItsBradazHD I cant just make a deck? The 3ds versions let me just create decks for free play, no need to unlock any cards. Or do I need to unlock them for the story mode?
There is no microtransaction option for the game. All cards are earned by getting points from dueling and buying boosters from the card shop or by beating certain people.

Some characters are a bit weird and ambiguous ( the Ignis for example, I think they hide a very deep symbolism, but they should have worked a bit more on them )
But that aside, it's an awesome sequel.
I think it has currently every available non exclusive card.
I already clear DM, GX, and 5D with the story decks, yes it's more difficult, but more challenging this way,
still after 200 cards 4 Yuya pick, no Magician Nagatian :(
Nabeel AlMulla new update!
But if its your friends you can discuss that beforehand
Do they plan to update this game? Like adding new cards and modifying the banlist
It took over 2 years for them to add new cards to the game on PC/Xbone/PS4. So it's possible, but I wouldn't hold your breath on it being anytime soon. Assuming they update it at all.
@@RockBandRS I hope that they do. There are a few decks that I love missing some support in game right now. (Aroma and Endymion for example)
If they had just made master rules 3 and 4 availible itd be worth the purchase. Espically if they added tag duels. Ygopro is nailing it rn
Leave it to the fans to make a better game than Konami.
It was awkward playing 5ds campaign because of the limitation of mr4. Pretty big oversight from their part.
@@averagejoe9229 exactly. Like how are you supposed to recreate moments with different rules. It isnt even possible to summon shooting star the right way
@@jasonandrews1770 if only we had glassfiber
@@jasonandrews1770 Well the original PC/PS4/XBONE versions of this game while having less content (but half the price too) do use master rule 3 so that's pretty much the only option for wanting to experience those battles with those rules.
I got this game a few days ago. You can summon multible extra deck monsters and all of the Vrains duels are unlocked. After the update.
Would you say the story modes play better with Master rule 3 or 4 considering how Master rule 4 screws GX, 5Ds and Zexal story decks?
They 100% play better with master rule 3. Tho the decks do get an upgrade in this game to try and counterweight it or make them more anime accurate
@@ItsBradazHD Alright so is it safe to assume that the single player content plays better on the other versions of the game then even if the switch version does have more battles and cards overall?
A lot of 5ds story decks are unplayable and that's my biggest problem with this game.
Look at the original Yu-gi-oh yami’s deck is unplayable it’s just a lot of high level vanilla monsters
They need to make a duelist challenge mode x or something more updated for each. Especially if they don't update the master rule
I wish, the new ruleset has killed the game for me.
>the nee ruleset has kill the game for me
Yugioh in general or this game?
Because you do have several games that have old rule sets and you can get friends to play old rules.
@@dbfan199 yeah but those old games aren't on the Switch 💁
MR4 killed the majority of decks in the game especially story ones.
My biggest ask is a MR3 mode.
I'm sticking to Duel Links.
@@tommyg4842 agree, maybe if they patch this thing in the future I can think to buy it.
man its really hard to get back into yugioh, not in a sense of how complex it is, but its vastly different from what i remember.
The options of competitive decks are much more broad than back then. They reuse old cards for new strategies which is awesome!
ItsBradazHD thank you SO very much 🔥💕
Broadbull, Enabler of Uncounted Combos thank you very much for answering his question that I was going to ask. Lol
Your voice is so relaxing to listen to (no homo lol)
I’m here listening wondering if I should buy it, but I haven’t played the game in probably 18 years. I played the TCG in grade school and then stopped. But I loved the GBA game! I think I’m going to get it!
I’d like comment on your review: it was very good! It’s extremely deep and goes deep into the mechanics. It’s very interesting to hear them from a complete newbie who hasn’t played in so long! Glad I found this
I bought it a few days ago. No regrets.
You can only fusion summon 1 monster at a time so fusion decks are nerfed
No, not like that, you need to link summon first.
Now you dont need to link summon
Link summoning sucks
What i would like to have included in duelist legacy is voice acting and the animations from duel links and add more cards that were released this year
That would be too much effort for them haha 😅🙃
How's the A.I. in Link Evolution? Because I've seen my fair share of brain dead misplays in YGO games especially in newer games due to more complex mechanics (can't say about OG LoD since I've never played it.
How difficult would this be to learn with no yu gi oh experience at all? Very curious to try it, but wary of spending 40 bucks to not understand it.
wiserr there’s a very nice tutorial in this game that explains the mechanics really well honestly, you can work your way up and learn at your pace. You can start from simple concepts such as normal summoning to the newest element Link Summoning.
I haven't played it yet but every other yugioh game I've played was a great tool to learn the game at your own pace.
Be patient and read cards
Thank you for all the responses I appreciate it! I will definitely be picking this up now thanks to you guys
I'm hoping they'll DLC the option to play with original rules with old school fields.
What are the 3 cards that come with the game ?
With the new update coming to link evolution that replaces master rule 4 with master rule 5, would you increase your rating for the game?
How similar is this to the very first game? Lol I lived the one that came out in the 90’s and bought this just now it seems soooo different
I was pretty much dead set on getting this game. I'm glad I looked up a review before tho. Knowing that Link monsters are required for every campaign ruined this for me, no chance I'll pick this up now.
Does anyone know where I can. Find magician navigation?
Yuya Sakakis pack (arc v)
ItsBradazHD thank you!
Does anyone know if there is a banlist for local duels in the game? Are you able to play, say, Firewall Dragon, with your friends?
I think the banlist is only for online matches against randoms
Der Boy Tried it. Ban list is applied to local multiplayer. Sucks because I wanted to troll with Exodia.
Just got play yesterday
Yeah, this is why I dislike a lot of these games (Even the Tag Force series....Sadly) but since I haven't cared about Yugioh since the start of Master Rule 4....Fuck it, I'll play this.
Posted this on Nintendo’s Channel:
Music in the trailer is better than most of the music in the game.
You can use banned cards in single player
Walter Weathersby
By banned cards i mean if you are going through story mode with your USER constructed deck not the one they use for the STORY deck scenario.
But yea using the story deck allows you to use the banned cards but I prefer to use my own deck through story mode.

Pretty sure it doesn't. It only goes up to the Soul Fusion pack.
No
Arr D2 Shield and the Plageuspreader Zombie synchro monsters in the game?
Yaboi Fumbl3s I made an Archfiend Resonator deck in this game without Links and it works pretty well imo... in single player of course

Was thinking about picking it up but it doesn't have the cards that I want in it. I also have no interest in links/pendulums but if they nerfed xys, fusions, and synchros (my favorite summons) by only allowing 1 at a time, then that's a hard pass.
Another great video
I got this game yesterday and I love it.The summoning animations are better but duel links is still a bit better. All the dlc because in the first game I only buyed one.
This is also my first experience with link monsters.
And I totally agree with your point that you can only summon one extra deck monsters without link monsters.

I only watched up to 5Ds and played all the old games up until the last 5Ds world championship titles, so am not familiar with all the post 5Ds stuff, so the regular LOTD might be better for me
Review this game now after new MR?
I wish they would bring back the mechanic to input the numbers in the left corner of the card again. That was amazing, I think they only used it once.
Dooky I’ve had duel links for 3 years since it came out and for some god damn reason I lose my account I’m done with konomi
when you buy cards what does the number at the characters mean?
Top row is how many unique cards you've seen (ie. 64 out of 314). Bottom row is how many you have working up to a playset (3 of each card)
Hey which pack can i get secret village of the spellcasters?
The Yugi pack has it.
The banlist is kinda weird here like is it supposed to be a combination of the recent tcg and ocg life world's format 2019?
Yeah! It's a "world's format" list combining Nov 2018 TCG and Jan 2019 OCG lists.. which makes for some weird hits TBF

Important question
When will it be cracked?
how good is the draft mode? i thought yugioh sets were not made for draft?
Draft has their own boxes.
@@sarthakarora3212 yeah, but how does it work?
My favorite Yu-Gi-Oh game was Eternal Duelist Soul and this game has been luring me in to purchase it. I've played on ygo Pro so I'm semi savi on the new extra deck rules. I'm also not too sure on the purchase just because "Ojama Emperor" isn't in, making one of my favorite choices not as strong without the help of the Ojama Link. Hell he probably isn't all that and I'm better off combing through for a better link Monster untill the eventual dlc shows up.
Really the one thing I'm leaning on this game for is the story mode and challenge/draft modes and hoping the characters provide some challenge for characters (assuming characters can have a hard mode unlocked for them)
Ojama abc is better anyway until they add dlc BUT none of the ai is tough unless youre playing single player draft

I think the game is good for what it is and i'll get it later this month. Honestly playing Duel Links sometimes feels like a chore more than anything else.
