    Alex Gonzalez should be more of a scapegoat to losing that NLCS than a freaking fan who was just reacting to a baseball hit in foul territory pretty much hit right at him. That was a routine inning ending double play hes a professional and blew that. Steve Bartman was merely a paying fan.

    It's great that Mark Prior has peace with his career path, that shows a tremendous amount of character. But I still hate Dusty Baker for his part in this.

    • @williamkoscielniak7871

      Without Dusty the Cubs don't make the playoffs that year. They had a terrible bullpen so he needed to ride his starters. Prior and Woods arms just couldn't hold up. I really don't think it was the pitch counts that did them in.

    • @fallen4life080
      @fallen4life080 2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      @@williamkoscielniak7871 Their bullpen was middle of the pack actually, not terrible. Dusty is a terrible manager who, with the right decision making, could've used his bullpen strategically especially since this was before the 3 batter minimum. Tony LaRussa invented the use of the modern bullpen strategy in the 2000s which is why he successfully led the Cardinals with sub-par teams to the playoffs every year.

      Yeah he seems like a really good guy. As a Braves fan losing 3 straight to the Dodgers in '20 was traumatic but if there is ANY positive that came out of that it's Prior getting a ring. He deserved it.

The guy who used to park the player cars at Wrigley got to know me from going to so many games that he hooked me up with autographs. He would put items I wanted signed in Priors car and Mark would sign them after the game for me.

    Having talented pitchers that show promise, make it to the big leagues, and contribute around a core of others to push a team far is rare.
    Then when all is said and done, the odds are only one if any of them will have a long and successful career.
    I am a Mariners fan and was devastated that we never got Felix Hernandez into a single playoff game.
    Now i look at our team in 2023 with a rotation that looks stacked with young talent and looks primed to dominate for years, but you just never know.
    Emjoy while it lasts i guess.

Some of these guys had long careers, but without a killer heater, not great careers.

    This 2003 NLCS really glossed over the TRUE breakout stud of the moment. That was Josh Beckett. In game 5, down 3-1 he took the ball, in what looked like a mere formality. After all, even if Florida wins, they have to beat Prior and Wood who are locked and loaded for games at Wrigley. Beckett calmly dismantled the Cubs with a two hitter that is, to this day, the most dominant performance Ive ever seen by a pitcher outside of Kerry Wood's 20K epic, and well...pretty much any playoff start by Madison Bumgarner.

    Mark Prior was ORIGINALLY drafted by the NY Yankees in 1998 but didn't sign.That Pirates team for that time was garbage and would strike out trying to hit a bee with the bat. Prior's injury problem was Prior himself. The only people saying he had perfect pitching motion were the Cubs and their announcers. Other teams seen his motion and seen the flaw that Markie ignored when he was told by Billy Cox. Kerry Wood developed the very same problem but too ignored it. They thought they knew more than a very successful major league pitching coach who tried to help. They started planting their left leg, landing leg slightly towards to right-handed hitting box which then caused them to throw back across their bodies to hit the middle of the plate or the LH side of the plate. That really didn't effect curveballs or inside fastballs to righties. What it did do is put all of the stress of throwing sliders and inside pitches to lefties on the right elbows. That leads to Tommy John surgeries and different types of shoulder injuries, torn Labrum to Rotator Cuff repairs. Both Kerry and Markie refereed to by many fans in Chicago as the MASH unit because they were injured but never trierd to listen to what the problem was.....themselves. Kerry got it when he went to Cleveland and became the closer, to late in his career to try and start again. Mark just went on and on in his dream world that he was perfect, even today he refuses to admit it was his own motion that caused all of his serious issues. Mark Prior and Stephen Strasburg had mirror early careers, Stephen got it before he completely killed his arm, until 2010 Stephen started 12 games, 2011 he only started 2 but then it took off in 2012 where he started 20-30 games per year until 2020 and this "pandemic" hit. 21 he started 2 games and 2121 5 games. He got the message and fixed the problem, to bad Prior was so stupid and egotistical, he COULD'VE been great.

      actually, Pryor's mechanics were really bad. He was so big and strong with such powerful leg drive, it covered up really suspect mechanics. Dusty made it worse

    Mark Priors poor mechanics that he had since his USC days are what happened to him. Dusty did him no favors but he is ultimately not to blame for his problems.
