"JOHN CHARLES McDERMOTT is a Canadian tenor best known for his rendition of "Danny Boy." Born the ninth of twelve children to Irish parents in Glasgow Scotland in 1955, John and his family moved to Canada in 1965. Growing up in a musical family, his only formal musical training was at St. Michael's Choir School in Toronto, Ontario in 1971 and 1972." - เพลง
My father quoted this on my parent’s 50th anniversary. He got chocked up. He now has Alzheimer’s but my mom is by his side everyday. This song chokes me up every time.
Just wonderful! My lovely bride passed away 11 years ago, this is a song that keeps her alive in my heart. Thank you, John, and my God bless you!
My dad told me he wanted my mom to listen to this when he knew he was dying.... She blew him away and never listened or took it to heart... But I am the crew, and I get it, and love the analogy of it all. I had my skipper!! ;)
This man sings from the heart with a God given talent that he shares with the world. I could listen to his music 24 hours a day. What a voice, one of the all time great singers who is a true gentleman!

There is more than words to this mans singing. Heart and feeling. A wonderful man who puts life to words. If you ever have a chance to see him in person, don't pass up the opportunity!
Celebrating our 31st Anniversary , This song is so applicable. Thank you John McDermott this shall always be a favourite in my book. Your soul-full rendition makes it all the more special.
I never married however this is the most beautiful and sentimental song I've ever heard. I have liked it many years. Thank you

We've just celebrated our Golden Wedding. We took a voyage from Greenock to Canada on "Empress of Canada" and we had nobody to turn to... "just me and you" now 50yrs later,we also have our own crew.
Thanks John for putting our story to music...it's beautiful.
John has an amazing voice, it’s a pleasure to listen to him
I love this song...😢
Had the pleasure of hearing John McDermott in a smaller venue in Hamilton Ontario. Just a few instruments backing up his wonderful voice and that was all he needed. Thank you for such an intimate and wonderful show. Please remember to come back to Hamilton, Ontario, soon.
This song was written for a couple of friends of mine
They emigrated from England and they settled in selkirk, manitoba. Not knowing what they in for, winters especially, the whole town rallied and outfitted them with winter clothing. I'll always think of them whenever I hear this song
Thank you mr McDermott for such a beautiful song. Wendy hale from vancouver bc.
Absolutely lovely; the singer and the song. Thank you so much. God love John McDermott.
My wife and I both love the song as well. We just celebrated our 30th anniversary. Thanks for viewing and for your nice comments. Cheers!
I've heard John Mcdermott sing, not only this song, but many more that others have done and he has no equal!
Great voice and phrasing of the lyrics. As though your listening tp a "story" and he does a wonderful job of doing that. Just great.
This is "Our song" love it
delighted to find John it's a long time since he appeared as the three tenors, I wondered what happened to him.So glad I can now tune in thanks for posting
God Bless from Glasgow Scotland
I fell in love with this song when I was in Ireland. A young lad from Dublin, Paul, told me the background of the song, then sang it beautifully, as only an Irishman can. ♥
Hi Christine. You have our sincere sympathy over your loss. My wife and I both lost our fathers when we were young. McDermott has at least two other ballads that touch the hearts of those who have lost dear friends and family members - "One Small Star" and "The Old Man". If you haven't heard these before, I have them posted. Thanks for your comments. May the worst day of your future be better than the best day of your past.
Thank you John! Simply Amazing!
Just getting married I pray this will be true for me
"Life is an ocean; LOVE is a boat" ⛵
i love this song, it's really pretty
Listen to this beauty of a song!
Lovely!! Thanks.
Loved it.
Gorgeous.
Wonderful
One comment about this lovely performance: When the "Irish Tenors" special was first broadcast, there was an absolutely gorgeous flute interlude between the two verses. The interlude was later cut from both the broadcast and the DVD. It can still be heard, however, in the live audio recording on CD. I should also mention that--to my bitter disappointment!--the song has never been published in any form (this from John's own manager). How I wish they would change that!
Beautiful!
What a lovely, moving post. thanks for the great uploads, Christine, so sorry to hear about your father.x
The song was originally written by Johnny Duhan, this arrangement is by Bill Bridges and John McDermott.
I realize that this part of the Irish Tenors, but we should realize that Mr,. McDermott is Scottish Canadian. Not an Irish tenor but a Scottish tenor born in Glasgow.
This Johnny duhan son has also been recorded by the followin Irish stars Christy Moore and Celtic Thunder and Tommy Fleming. Alldifferent but great interpretations of the song
@bnesh26 I believe it was for time reasons, to make the final version of the original program more suitable from the standpoint of US broadcast industry standards. This is by no means the first time I have seen this sort of thing, I might add!
@GlamRockCowboy -Hi there! I think you received some incorrect info, because I have ALL of JM's CDs. The live audio track is available on a CD titled "the Irish Tenors" (1999). John also released a studio recording of this song on his CD titled "Love Is a Voyage" (1995 & 2000). You should still be able to find them on Amazon and a few independent sellers. If not, get back in touch and I will help you.
_Written by our own Johnny Duhan...nice version although I prefer it at a slower pace..._
Anyone know where i can find the piano sheet music to this?
He die????
What's wrong with one man one woman??? It was good enough for 2,000 + years!!
