    Imagine going back in time at a drag strip with a Nissan Versa and being neck and neck

      I believe the versa will win by a decent margin

      ngl the versa would get gapped, i've driven them and they're awful

      @@ajr_e46 Try driving the kicks lol 😂 The versas are a little bit quicker since they’re lighter, but they’re definitely not a race car.

    This is to be expected from this time period. This was nearly right after the second oil crisis hit. V8 engines went from having at least well over 300 hp to barely making over 200 hp. That was mainly because of all the emissions stuff restricting airflow and exhaust flow.

      Emissions

    • @themanguy2110
      @themanguy2110 2 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      @silkyworm emissions systems choked vehicles throughout the 70s and 80s. there were more restrictive exhausts, especially due to the catalytic converter systems. There were other emission control systems required, but I can’t name them off the top of my head

    • @AliceC993
      @AliceC993 2 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      @@themanguy2110 Most of the "legacy" engines that were developed before ~'72-'73 or so also received much more mild camshafts compared to what they had prior to the fuel crisis, combined with all the emissions BS it all makes for a very lethargic engine.

      One of several reasons is in 1972 they started measuring NET horsepower at the drive wheels, whereas before that, they only measured Crank horsepower, which produced much lower numbers. Also, when unleaded gasoline was phased in, the octane was much lower to help pollution thus necessitating the reducing of the compression ratio and backing off the timing advance on newer (70's) engines. Remember, back in the Model T days, they used large (300 ish cubic inch) 4 cylinder engines producing roughly only about 25 horse power because of the extremely low octane levels in the fuel. As gasoline evolved with much higher octane levels to prevent "pinging/pre-detonation" they were able to drastically raise the compression ratio and add much more timing advance.
