Luka and Corridor is a pairing I never thought I would see, but am excited nonetheless!

29:18 Fenner makes a great point about practical effects vs vfx. Doing things practically merely for the obsession of doing it practically doesn't necessarily make the final result better.

Part of why the footage to 2D animation might look rotoscoped and not quite right still is that it still has 'technically correct' volume, which always reveals itself and feels like it activates the part of your brain that needs to work out whether those spinning silhouette illusions are going one way or the other way. Whereas hand drawn animation isn't bound by any laws of physics and can move things into unrealistic positions to get a nice camera angle view or to transition there, or not show the transition in general to not have to visually explain the connection of these physically inconsistent structures from different perspectives.
Google Pixel phones have that "magic masking" thing too. The subject eraser thing came out in 2012 or something in a Nokia or a Samsung phone. The Pixel eraser is good enough in a mobile photo size, but any amount of zooming and it'll break apart in most cases. The new Pixels have a feature that restores old blurry photos with AI and THAT thing is pretty sick. Doesn't even have to have been shot on a phone or THE phone, you just have to own a Pixel 7 and upload your old photos to Google Photos and it's available.

I think In regards to the “rotoscope” feeling, you need to start directing the actors to stand more still. Move less, focus more on action poses, and just overall move less.
The rotoscope feeling will fall away once they stop moving EXACTLY like a human does.

You cant tell if its cgi....
Sorry but we always can.... Simply because of errors. There is always problems with cgi. So yeah... Stop putting yourself on pedestals.... Cgi is easy to spot because of those errors. The only cgi hard to spot are the ones who had a hell of a lot of time to be pulled. Thats very rarely gonna happpen.

The only time I heard them say that this whole time is in reference to big budget cgi. Which I would say is accurate. There are times that you can't tell.
@@codyblack536 wren said "by today standard its relaly hard to say if things are CGI or not" i beg to differ. there are still tons of stuff that makes us know its CGI. mainly colors because computers aren'T able to see colors the same way our eye can. black and white are called saturation in computer terms.. our eye do not work with saturation at all. its a simulation of what our eye see, but its not accurate. that's why full body deaging CGI process seems still weird to us. that's also why photos taken of stuff, while helping alot... are still not realistic. for the colors the photo show us is not how our eye would see it. thats also prooven by photo of say a miniature painted and seeing it in reallife is totally not giving it justice. its always gonna be better in real life. its those errors that makes us able to see if its CGI or not. wren talks about this in his neural light renders.
that's what im talking about. the fact its easy to tell if its CGI or not... maybe not on the first view, but on subsequent view yes. the same thing hapenned when spirit within came out and they said it was very real.. many couldn'T tell it was CGI. but after a while, everybody could tell. people in 20 years will look at the tech of today and will say, "i can't believe they believed it was real !" because there is always place for errors and thus always place for improovement. but as long as we aren't able to replicate lighting the way our eye do it... nothign will ever look real to us.
