The national government will take off undoable large infrastructure out of the list of flagship projects being eyed by the Duterte administration for implementation.
In a briefing, Socioeconomic Planning Secretary Ernesto M. Pernia said yesterday that an initial three large bridge projects included in the original 75 flagship list will be removed, and substituted by smaller-scale roads, bridges and irrigation projects.
“What we have done is to pick out certain projects that are impossible to meet given the technology, engineering, or maybe the technology is available somewhere but we don’t have to build on very deep waters and long bridges,” Pernia said.
Among the unfeasible infrastructure projects initially identified by Pernia for removal were the proposed Luzon-Samar, Leyte-Surigao, and Cebu-Bohol link bridges which would cost roughly ₱161.1 billion.
He explained these three projects alone were “very challenging and costly” to implement within the remaining term of President Duterte, which ends in June 2022.
“About three bridges, big projects, have been taken out and substituted with smaller projects, but then as I’ve said, game changing for the regions,” the NEDA chief said.
Pernia, meanwhile, said the government will include in the revised flagship projects those that are under the Public-Private Partnership scheme, like the Bulacan airport and the Ninoy Aquino International Airport rehabilitation.
Pernia said the government will release next week its revised infrastructure list consisting of 100 large and small scale infrastructure projects.
The new list will still include regional airports and projects in information and communications technology, water, power and urban renewal.
To date, only nine out of the current 75 flagship projects were undergoing construction, and only two projects had been finished.
But despite the slow implementation, Pernia expressed confidence that the Duterte administration could compete at least 50 of the new 100 flagship list.

It's impossible to connect Leyte to Mindanao! The bathymetric surveys carried out by joint MGB/NPC in 1998 showed an abyss of undisclosed depth between Panaon Island and Surigao. Likewise, the sea current in Panaon-Surigao channel is very very strong that bridge technology needs further study.

Travelled by land n 2017 from tarlac-pampnga to leyte to surigao to gensan and we saw those infra projects of the government. Salamat nakita namin muli ang development (to its sense). Malaki na ang binago at mga natapos na part esp sa spine routes from Luzon.

The deepest underwater tunnel ever built was 287 meters below sea level in Norway. The waters around Leyte island are about 1,450 meters deep according to Google Earth. And it's impossible to put a hanging bridge without any foundation stretching from Surigao to Leyte, and such bridge will have to be really tall to allow cargo ships to pass below it. And yet the location is facing the Pacific Ocean with winds that are strong and too dangerous for tall hanging bridges that can accommodate cargo trucks no less.

Pkiramdam ko ngbbyahe din ako kc sobrang ganda ng view jan sa Leyte.parang nmmasyal ako habang nanonood ako habang nagddrive k ng motor mo Sir Joseph.
Before implementing such mega bridges, aral-aral muna tungkol sa feasibility ng seabed kung malalim masyado or mababaw enough yung body of waters na tatawirin, environmental impact and cost. Presence din ng fault lines kapag lindol ang usapan.
For now, tiyaga-tiyaga muna sa airports and Ro-Ro for inter-island connections. Mas cost effective and evnvironmentally sustainable.

Hindi possible ang Surigao-Leyte-Samar bridge dahil malalim ang karagatan dyan, at jusko, ga-Mega Mall ang alon dyan kung super typhoon!
At gawin dapat 3 o 4 ang ferry/ ro-ro na magbe-byahe from Liloan to Surigao, at dagdagan ang mga facilities ng terminals sa dalawang ports para sa mga biyaherong maistranded dahil masama ang panahon.

From Hindang Leyte to San Recardo port 5hours by Bachelor Tour Bus then stay overnight surigao then early morning surigao to siargao Island DAPA Port stay there San Benito mostly lots of cousins my mother side.go i experience house to house for the first time go aroundto siargao Island etc...... by motor and 3days Fiesta Celebration
Then back to surigao..... then Bachelor bus to Ampayon Butuan about 2hours then Van to Davao 6hours stay 4day's my cousin house Dodong and Vilma then Philippinas Airlines to Cebu stay there one week my brother house then barko Cebu ~Helongos back to my hometown Hindang Leyte.
