For people like me who have been 'peaceniks' their whole life from childhood, vilification for our opinions has been a constant oppression. As if we are somehow substandard in society and don't deserve a place in it because of our conviction of opinion.
I would never have joined the military in my youth. However as I come to be of a mature age, so many of the best people I've met have been ex- military, and I wonder if my life would have had a different outcome had I opted for that route.
But I still can't comprehend how people my own age got hoodwinked into joining up with the same information available at the same time period and yet come up with such differing stances at that time. I haven't changed my opinion on the politics.
Kudos to you mate. I hope it was witnessed.

"Lord" John Taylor is an interesting look at British politics 20 years ago. As disgusting as the Tories are, he seems a decent enough person compared the abject shyte we have today -- especially from the Tory Token Minority ranks.
A quick Google shows despite bending over to join their ranks, he was never truly one of them: during the expenses scandal, "15 members of the House of Lords refused to give evidence to support Taylor's defence". Compare to today's Tories rallying round "Baroness" Mone, the skivvy who skimmed a load of Covid PPE money.
