- Oh boy I cannot say how glad I am to finally get this done. After almost 5 months of production, I finally present the end of The Search for Smudger. I want to thank all my cast members who did a fantastic job in this.

I almost cried to hear Bertram/Smudger almost break down as he recounted his story. Beautiful story though! Never stop!

I like Duncan in that scene. Usually, he's rude, but this is just brave and heroic. Even though Bertram used to be Smudger, Duncan stands up for him against Duke. Duncan's actually a nice engine, if you think about it. What Smudger called Duke was in the past. The other Skarloey Railway engines have moved on. Bertram's changed. If I found that Bertram was Smudger, I would be surprised, but I would forgive him and be friends with him.
I think he called Duke a "Stinking Old Piece of Shit Covered Scrap" or something

Oh my word. In all the stories starting the Mid Sodor engines, I have never seen Duke so upset at another engine, nor have I seen Peter Sam or Sir Handel this angry at their mentor/grandfather. Great job though.

I love this scene. The perfect timing of the music, and it being a deeper pitch than the original duel of fates makes it so much more somber sounding and intense.
It's like Remus Lupin and Sirius Black exposing Scabbers as Peter Pettigrew.
Nice usage of Duel of the Fates for this confrontation.
This is deeply emotional for Duke and Bertram when the flashbacks come crawling in. Thankfully, everyone is forgiven.

This series is wonderful. Now I can't stop thinking that Bertram is Smudger. It's way better than Smudger staying a generator.
I like to think that Bertram/Smudger got his title of "Old Warrior" in World War I. He was used in France and Belgium as one of the many small engines running men and materiel between the front line and the supply depots further back. These engines had to work on hastily constructed track well within range of the enemy artillery and they frequently came under fire as they chugged through muddy ground strewn with corpses and the wreckage of other, less fortunate trains.
The Duke of Sodor that Duke knew and was named after was killed in the war, and apparently it's a big reason why he was forgotten for years. Perhaps Smudger met His Grace at the front before the latter's death. I can only imagine Duke's reaction to that.

This was really good. You took 2 one-shot characters and a ghost story and tied them all together. I remember the episodes from seasons 4 and 5. When I first saw Bertram in 'Toby's Discovery', I thought it was Duke and then watching 'Duncan Gets Spooked' with that story was chilling. Well done

Very interesting and engaging story :) It's a little stretching to think that Smudger went from so many thing, generator, rebuilt into Bertrum, falling off a bridge, rebuilt again but then again its the creativity that made this an interesting watch. I've seen some of your episodes before. Some parts wouldn't necessarily sit with me (like some of the wackyness and voiceacting and editing) but your series does tend to stray from what people usually make which is what makes 'em an interesting watch :)
But if he was a generator, how could he be Bertram. The controller told the engines that he was a generator to cover up the truth. Remember how it was mentioned in this episode.

Louis Phung Godred had a terrible accident in the Mountains he was never repaired as time went on he became smaller and smaller and smaller until there was nothing left of him rumors are that his remains were used to fix other engines of his Class

You know I have never known Duke to shout because he has always stayed calm, even in other fan made shows were Smudger returns. Well still annoyed to see him again at first until Smudger does something right, but at the same time Duke was still calm. Here I was really taken a back because I had never seen Duke being so aggressive before.

Well, where to start, crimson's lines were golden, the emotions were clear as day, and the storyline is spectacular! This is probably flawless in my opinion. However, my only real problem is Smudger's rebuild (as Rehneas said "that's physically impossible!") However, it doesn't retract from the story and we've seen Henry go from "hybrid" to "Black 5" in the RWS, so in the T&F universe, it's probably possible. I better stop talking before this begins to become a rant! XD

I cried. This is such a beautiful backstory of bertram.

It would be funny if that was true!!! Bertram is Smudger, and you know how Duke and Bertram were the same model of engine, so I guess you could say Smudger became the locomotive he always wanted to be. It's amazing how influences of your friends can change lives!! Now Why wasn't this theory an actual episode! There is so much people could learn from this!! HIT Entertainment should have US as their writers, and, they also did a remake of an episode where Bill and Ben were pulling Pranks on Boco, but they switched Boco out with that Class J Hudson Streamliner, Connor.

In part 1, Godred was scrapped for being a waste of space, Albert's demise happened in Shunterproductions' universe, and I think Crimson was sold to another railway.

If your truth is true about Crimson I've thought there's a little chance that there should be an episode of his own life. Alas, I believe that he may could come back soon as a flashback episode. I hope he could be brought back to life as a possible replica!

Lets see if we've got this straight.... Mid-Sodor workmen saved Smudger, (but not DUKE) and secretly sold him to a quarry connected to the Skarloey Railway, where he was rebuilt into a brown tank engine to disguise him. Then he fell off the bridge, was raised in secret, and rebuilt into a locomotive almost identical to Duke (why that design, anyhow? It's much too rare to be inconspicuous) and put into service on the Skarloey, while the legend and ghost story of the Old Iron Bridge grew around his accident. Sound about right?
I wonder if Bertrum/Smudger choose Duke's design to honor the memory of the friend he would've had.
the workmen were probably looking for quick money and figured out the mid sodor was closing so took smudger and Dukes blue prints used for repairs. then when he was rebuilt from brown tank to tender, it was probably just that that the workmen at the works couldn't find his plans so used plans from the England class as bertram looked like one but without a tender.
CJ Balke it makes sense that they would take smudger instead of Duke. he was in a more accessible place, he was smaller, and the chances of him telling anyone were lower
